Use csc. Home csc is when you odin the same firmware, but it won't erase data. Better off not using it and just starting from scratch. Especially if you are switching from sprint to the U
PI3 is the G930U firmware I used, date of 09.09.2016... do note that the dates are European, so it is date/month/year.
Once you download the firmware, as has been described before in this thread, extract the files from the ZIP and load them accordingly in Odin.... BL, AP, CP, CSC in the appropriate options in Odin. Then flash away by putting your phone into DOWNLOAD mode and connect it to your computer (searching the forum will have more detailed instructions on using Odin if you're not familiar). Should load without any issues, mine did after many attempts and really messing with my phone.
That's how I know how to do it. Been using Odin since I started rooting/modifying Samsung phones. I've never seen or used the tool that micallan_17 is recommending to use in his other thread, so I can't say so much about it.
That's cool, but it seems some people are having problems using that tool. Even the OP says it's deprecated. That's why I haven't really bothered checking the tool out, I just use Odin like most everyone else using Samsung does. I like to keep things simple personally, and that's the way Odin seems to be.
OK, thanks. Sprint MVNO is not the same as native Sprint service with respect to account and device provisioning and my guess is that the "online" unlock process won't work unless it's connected to an account with native service.
Your other option might be to try one of those unlock services and keep the phone on the Sprint firmware.
Thanks for your suggestion and yes you are 100% correct. Both the Sprint and Sprint MVNO (Ringplus) are tossing me back and forth for weeks. Sprint system claimed that the phone is no longer with them and they cannot even send any unlock code to my phone as the system locked them out from doing anything due to the phone has been moved to a phone database. When I opened multiple support tickets with RingPlus, they claimed that they don't do any SIM unlock and they said only Sprint can do it. It's super annoying. Anyway, I took your advice and went on google and found "The Android Doctor". Guess what, I got it unlocked in 30 minutes for $15 ! If I knew it's only this cheap and quick, I wouldn't even going to bother calling Sprint more than 5 times and open those support tickets. Super waste of time and efforts. They have also mentioned that they can't lock my phone anymore as this unlock is permanent, I am not sure what that means. Does it means if I install the 930U firmware, it will stay unlocked or not, but I won't take that chance anymore, just an FYI for those who are interested in it. Good lucks guys.
Yes and no. You can flash the u firmware, but you need the newest version due to bootloader update. Check sammobile or updato. Updato.com has the version you need, just search for G930u and download the October update
I just flashed the Sprint S7 with G930U firmware. The diag mode menu is missing after flash. ##3424# and ##3282# don't work. I also tried to use shortcut master to get access, but can't find the diag menu. Anyone knows how to enter the diag mode in this case? Thanks!
The "U" Firmware will work on any G930 Galaxy S7 (basically, USA variants) and is the Samsung Galaxy Touchwiz OS without carrier bloat. There is Samsung Bloat, but some can be uninstalled or disabled with a program like Package Disabler Pro.
This should not trip Knox and will allow you to flash back to your original stock firmware. Warranty should not void, but I'm not responsible for bricked devices, exploding batteries, crying babies, Earth crushing meteors. If you have a question, best to ask it first!
There is an OTA to PG9 after you install this firmware. Feel free to upgrade after you flash this!
You cannot root this firmware with the Sprint model. Here are some apps that will give you some root/xposed features without them.
HotSpot
1. Download Shortcut Master Lite
2. Search for LTEfunctionality
3. Click on com.test.LTEfunctionality
4. Launch
5. Scroll down to LTE APN Setting
6. Add " ,dun " to APN2 LTE and EHRPD internet under APN type. That line should read default, mms, dun when you finish.
7. Native Hotspot should work. You may have to do this hack again if you update Profile.
Ad Blockers
None of these block ads on Youtube completely. Some will let you route through their servers to filter ads on Youtube, but most use a local VPN.
1. Ad Guard. Best I've used, but is a paid app for the good features.
2. AdClear. Some have had success with this, I've had mixed results.
3. BlockThis! Works well, but caused issues on some webpages.
Youtube Ads
This doesn't block ads, but it does silent and auto skip them. Cygery
Skip Tracks With Volume Keys
Noyze Not sure if still being developed, but works. Let's you skip tracks by long pressing with screen off.
ForceDoze
Greenify without root had a few hiccups for me, but ForceDoze puts your phone into doze mode without the motion detectors and 30 minute wait. Great app! Does require you to install adb (adb installer) since you have to run a command to get it to run properly.
Old stuff
Has anyone tried the 930U firmware for our Sprint phones (930P)? They seem to have success with it (935U) over at the Sprint S7 Edge forums.
On the Edge forums, they said you can root, but it messes with LTE/call abilities. However, it removes all Sprint bloatware and apparently allows for hotspot tethering.
According to the Edge forums, it is the universal firmware, so it should work on any qualcomm chipset phone. The firmware is for the Galaxy S7 Special Edition ( Link to Sprint site about it )
Anyway, here is the thread on the AT&T forum about it if you are interested. Didn't see a thread or info about here, so I was just wondering.

I was trying to prioritize the LTE bands in the diag menu and change the USB settings. Does G930u firmware not have the IOTHiddenMenu installed? Thanks!

I have the same problem. I would love to know what all LTE bands are active and prioritize them but unfortunately 930P flashed with 930U does not seem to let me access this.
I was on the G930P...APK1 firmware. I found the G930U...API3 firmware on samsung-firmware.org, and it worked perfectly. The only thing was that it took about 10 hours to download the zip file. I put it on my Google Drive site and it should download quicker for anyone who needs it. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B148tOxyLK3KendCQlR3TEt0ZTg

So do I for the same reasons.... I just realized they have a little NEXT button at the bottom. Originally I did not see that button and did not see the Sprint (SPR) coded PI3 firmware, that's why I went to Samsung-Firmware to get it. Helping using a big screen rather than the phone to download firmware I guess (HAHA @ Self)
My contracted finally updated on the MySprint.Sprint.com website, so I went looking around. It is a little confusing to understand my new bill structure, with al the canceling of old contract/devices... and adding of the new stuff. But I did notice that Sprint is able to see my HotSpot usage. Which to my knowledge was never an issue with the hacked native hotspot (using Galaxy Tools) on my S5. But to add to that, I don't think I'm being charged for this.... or that I can easily make out with my current new bill. Anyone else seeing this who is on the S7 using the G930U with the hotspot modification in the OP of this thread?
