Mine had the APN settings grayed out under Settings but I found another way to edit them so I could do the hotspot trick.
1. Download Shortcut Master Lite
2. Look for com.test.LTEfunctionality
3. Scroll down to LTE APN Setting
4. You can now edit your APN settings
Worked for me. Thanks

Will the gear vr still work with this rom?
If so, does smash hit run without any hitch? There a lot of report of vr being glitchy with snapdragon 820.

Yeah, I've been running this for a few days and it has been solid! Shortcut Master Lite gave me hotspot, ad free, found an XDA app that mutes and auto skips ads on Youtube, and found an app on XDA that gives you long press volume for skip. So far so good and then battery has been much better than it was rooted. Other than the minor Youtube annoyance of ads and no play in background, it has the same options as when I was rooted. Package Disabler Pro took care of the stuff I didn't want running and the U firmware let you uninstall some of that stuff anyway.

Since rooting gave me worse battery life, the U firmware is perfect. Other than kernel/power tweaks, which we can't do, I really only rooted the S7 for those little things.

Can't find the com.test.LTEfuncionality. Where are you guys finding that
Make sure you are on the 930U PEH firmware and not any sprint firmware. If you go to settings > About device it should say it under firmware and your model number should be SM-G930U.

Open, shortcut master lite. You need to download it from the play store. In the upper right, it will say MORE. Click MORE and then Search.... Just type in functionality or LTEfunctionality the app seems to be picky with capitalization and syntax. Mine gives me 3 options when I search for it. When you click on it, press launch. Only 1 of my 3 worked. Then scroll down to LTE APN Setting. Now you can edit the APN.

Okay, so is it best to do a reset wipe before flashing this in Odin or can I just flash 930U over the sprint firmware? You dont have to be rooted correct?

I just flashed it over the Sprint firmware. It's official Samsung firmware so no need to root prior. Phone runs better now with the 930U firmware in my opinion.

Flashed

Flashed on the latest updated sprint firmware. Everything works fine. Not much to complain about yet.
Also got hotspot method to work outlined by people here. I don't know if I have to restart, as I restarted after changing the APN type and it worked from there.

I agree. Phone's overall performance has improved since flashing the U firmware. No bloatware, Hotspot and it even has the data toggle. I also noticed a battery improvement. I seem to get a few more hours of use. I don't see any need to root at this point. If I want YouTube background playback...I just use Firefox Browser...and I use Ad guard for Samsung broswer.

Also, use ForceDoze. You have to set up a little ADB to get it to work, but it kicks in Doze instantly! I couldn't get it to work with greenify and the non-root hibernate was a nightmare. Just watch it because you may have to de-doze some apps because my pandora was cutting out with the screen off.

XDA has an app that will silent and 'press' skips for ads on Youtube. Check it out here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-cygery-adskip-youtube-xda-exclusive-t3361271 Not as good as Youtube Adway, but less annoying.

I found Block This! for ad blocking and, for me, it has worked better than AdGuard and AdClear. There are threads about it on XDA and the dev made it open source. But they all probably work the same.

If you want to skip tracks with volume keys, check out an XDA app called Noyze. http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-noyze-volume-panel-replacement-t2875501 Go to page 3 for a download link. It has worked without fail. But you will have to undoze it if you use ForceDoze.

Anyway, just those minor Youtube things, but I pretty much have everything I used on root on this stock firmware. The U firmware rocks with the Sprint S7!

Probably a bad download. These are pretty big files. Sometimes I have to actually plug into a hardwire to download files this big.

I would redownload, but see if you can plug into an ethernet line this time. I've had this happen too, but a redownload or sometimes a redownload while plugged in fixed the problem

And you are on the U firmware? Did you root? The phone should have self activated on boot. Update prl/ profile?

It did activate and update prl and I'm on root but can't make calls it's weird.

You can't root it and make calls with it...only data works. You need to reflash and not root. But it is much better than the sprint version.
