I also use the 4.2 camera. For me it's faster and the photos it makes are on par with the ones made using burst.

I've patched the 4.2 camera to support all of the resolutions Z/ZL support (9, 13, etc).
I'm uploading it now.

Update: here's the link

can this be installed on any phone? or need to be rooted? unlocked? locked? so on?

i have to agree with you on what you said out here. The sensor isnt made for high iso levels. Ive tried fidgeting with settings, but id still wish sony would give us settings to control the shutter speed now that would be something. Iso set manual and shutter set manually= sexy/epic pics.

It's pretty bewildering. It's like no-one at Sony even looked at the results of the different modes.

Given they now have a DSLR division, you'd think they'd have access to competent photographic advisors.

The really annoying thing is that the hardware is obviously capable of producing good results in the right conditions.

I'm sorry, but not one of the pictures you guys posted looked 100% in focus or crisp enough for me.
I've come from the iPhone 5 which made really great photos, but even by following your various suggestions, the Z camera (or at least the software), is extremely disappointing.

Try using burst mode in good light conditions, or camera360 ultimate in good light/medium light conditions. It's the best choice by now...

I have also to agree here. It's contradictory, but in one hand we have a screen that's a little bit washed out... on the other hand we have a camera that takes over saturated pictures... I love my Z, but this is really annoying... I hope this gets fixed in the 4.2 update that seems to be released soon... or not...

OP - Have you done any testing since .423 Firmware came out? (4.2.2)

My ZL is on 4.2.2 now - Wondering if Burst is still the way to go.

This is the only frustrating thing about my phone. Coming from a Note II, it actually took better pictures most of the time for me "on the snap"

Sony needs to realize people use Cell Phones for quick snaps - Superior Auto just plain sucks.

Superior Auto seems much better on the 4.2.2 update. It's calmed down compared to the old one.

I did read about the HDR video, according to Sony it doesn't use multiple expoures, it alternates exposure for lines of pixels and combines them.

The HDR mode seems more a backlight compensation tool than the artistic HDR you normally see.

Are you on the latest firmware? The pictures come out great now compared to the original firmware, putting it next to my wifes s4 they seem the same if not better sometimes.

Hi mate, I'm on the latest firmware. My camera app version is 1.0.0, could you please confirm it is the one? Thanks in advance.

Camera version is the same I meant firmware latest is 10.31.a.0.244

Try normal mode with no flash and play around with iso 400 or lower. Superior auto isn't very good at Low light scenes.

Night portrait is pretty good too only try night scene if you're hands are extremely steady ask the time
