That firmware is known for crappy camera output - better update to .244 Before you get even more frustrated and making thermonuclear war..

I'm not sure but it looks like choosing 5MP gives better post-processing quality than the 13MP. (I'm using Xperia Tx)

the best night mode is in manual -> night portrait. uses no more than iso 400 and a shutter speed of 1/8 or 1/4 sec which are risky for a phone without ois but still the results are way beyond what you would expect from our little z
