A gerneral question about roms and stuff

whats the use of a stock rom, and how would i use it?

Useful for recovering a bricked device using Odin or Kies. But there isn't one available for the SM-S920L and probably never will be as this is a straight talk phone and they simply will not release the rom and neither will samsung.

Sorry for the amateur question but in cases like this, when the company won't release the Rom, can someone with the tools/knowledge, extract the stock Rom directly from the phone?
