So when people say that the XPERIA launcher lags in comparison with other launchers, that could be in fact derived from the SONY widgets. Did anyone made a comparison without these special widgets?

(I would make it but I don't have yet the XPZ... :()

My launcher never lags. It works better than Samsung's, Apex and at least as good as Nexus' stock. The thing is, I only use 3 homescreens and total of 1 widget ( the weather one ). It starts to lag with more homescreens and more than 10 widgets on them.

I have it. And still evaluate it since I use T..

And I must say I am undecided! The biggest change would be actually the RAM....
I love the size and ergonomics of T...

Z is great but there are few annoying gripes, which may disappear once I will mount an SIM card...

- Sony Store doesn't see my phone as Sony (?) so there is no dedicated Sony bookmark.. Visible on T
- The keyboard doesn't show .pl shortcut for web addresses endings, T does.... And my T is global, Z is Tmobile..
- Socialife at least on WiFi is totally unreliable - what is the pattern of updates? I mean I refresh and get only Twitter and FB updates from few hrs back, not the newest ones.
Timescape was accurate!
- Lack of camera button, however it's a smaller problem I thought
- This phone is actually a bit too big for me!
- Chrome - chrome is SHIIIT! It has problems with fonts, it doesn't txt reflow. Why Sony deleted this great browser from T and left this JUNK!!!

So a tough choice I must say...!

About the size, ergonomics & physical camera button, I share similar thoughts, so chose the ZL (almost the size of XS, only bit wider) over XZ (at the expense of water/dust resistance).

Chrome, I agree, is bit laggy, text reflow doesn't work, and consumes more battery (maybe coz its resource intensive). But it supports most websites (like sony support) better than other browsers. So, I use dolphin browser most of time (& chrome only for websites which dolphin doesn't fully support). It is faster, phone doesn't heat up, and consumes lesser battery compared to chrome. But, I do wish sony had a stock browser (like in the Note2 or Xperia T).

Yes, I guess. Btw, the xperia home never actually lags for me, only occasional stutters if using weather/photo widget. There is a modded Xperia launcher with lots customization options (no root required), which imo is better compared to stock. You may search for it on xda.

I would totally go for ZL but due to ATROCIOUSLY IDIOTIC Sony strategy it's not available in Europe (in most countries).
I tried Dophin but hate the UI so I actually use Opera Mobile 14 beta...

It only lags when I go to the home screen that have two weather widgets as they are refreshing.
Other than that no lag.

Also it seems that XZ launcher freezes or sleep in the background while you are in another app to save battery and be easy on the ram.

Good review agree with you on most things but tbh I can't notice any lag. They should improve the speaker though.

And it would be nice if you could change the application drawer in some way.
nova launcher

Heh yeah, probably a good choice.
However my Z came to me for free, and for the next month I am travelling much, don't have a chance to even receive the postage ;)
Maybe I'll try that.

But I am very very happy to see one thing:
Z has a fast and precise zooming & shooting, meaninig I can shoot night shots with onscreen button without getting blurry.
What was my main concern regarding Z versus ZL.
