A9 battery life and development discussion.

So how good or bad do you think the A9's battery life will be with the s617 and amoled 1080p? Also what are the chances for decent development on the device { aosp }? i wouldn't really call this a lower end or midrange device. despite being branded iphone 6 copycat its still looks fantastic to me and is getting great reviews. so much so im contemplating returning my m9 to tmobile and buying.

The m7 has a slightly larger battery with less optimized hardware and software. The a9 will beat it easily. If you can live without boom sound front-facing speakers and you think you can return the m9, IMO this is more like the m7 and that's good.

This is the first HTC phone since the M7, that I've had any interest in. Although I'm concerned with the relatively small battery capacity initial comments from reviewers have been positive. Enough so for me to take a chance to pre-order the phone at $399 I think this device is a definite buy at the $399 price point. Besides HTC is offering a 30-day no questions asked return policy. If it doesn't fit your needs you can send it back during the trial period. The promotional price jumps to $499 Novemeber 7th. At $499 there are many other phones to consider. IMO jump now and pre-order, you can always change your mind later, if you wait it's going to cost you a C-Note.

With the reviews so far, it looks like the A9 will have a mediocre battery life. With moderate usage, one should be able to pull through a work day. Hopefully with time, the battery life won't degrade too much. The inclusion of quick charge 2.0/3.0 will go someway in making the scenario better.

I agree, I went ahead and ordered one of the new Tronsmart 3.0 quick chargers, should have it tomorrow, my current phone is not compatible with the qc 3.0 standard. Thankfully the Tronsmart qc is backward compatible so will also work fine with qc 2.0/1.0 devices!

this video talks about performance and battery life and compared it to Z5 and N5X.

The perf. is lower in benchmarks compared to Z5 (esp GPU wich is 1/3rd of z5) but what is suprising is that it has higher benchmarks then 5x. Both phones are running 6.0 so that should not be it.

Battery life apparently is better then 5x and even z5 but not as good as z5c, so the screens and optimizations compensate for the lower mAh.
Im not suprised that 5x has worse life then A9, Nexus often have bad optimizations for some reason.
