I'm experiencing a similar problem after updating the firmware to 2.0. It seems that the Bluetooth connection doens't complete. Most of the time if I manually go into my phone and make the connection it starts up. Other times, mostly when I am making short trips in and out of the vehicle, it refuses to connect. Using firmware 1.8 and usb MTP connection it was fairly reliable. Still would have connasction problems after short trips, but the next day it would connect without issue. I have a 2020 Ram 1500 with uConnect and a Samsung s10.
There is definitely something going on with uconnect. I have a 2020 Durango and the same thing happens.

After getting out and back in before the USB turns off (1 hr delay). It never restarts the Android Auto app on the uconnect.

Mine says it's connected to AAwireless and Android Auto on the phone, but the headunit never switches. Selecting the BT does nothing almost like the button is disabled when you press it but it's not obviously. Saving the AAwireless settings to reboot the device doesn't do anything either.

You have to really mess with it to get it to work, or wait till the next day and it will usually work.

I have a Google Pixel 4a 5g so AA and Android are up to date more then most phones. The same cable works 100% of the time all the time when connected direct so I know the headunit works properly also.

Uconnect is really popular so you think they would figure it out but it's never really worked 100% since I got it.

Basically when playing music I'm getting random audio cut out every 20-30 secs pretty continuously and it is pretty annoying.

I'm in the same situation. Dodge Durango with Uconnect (2018 model). It's very hit or miss, and nearly never reconnects if I'm getting back in during the 1 hour power delay.

My settings:
Dongle mode = on
Passthrough mode = on
Start/Stop = on
Firmware = 2.0.0
App = 2.12.0
Phone = Samsung Galaxy S22

The USB cable I'm using works 100% of the time when I plug my phone in directly to it.

If I move the AAW to a different model car, is it necessary to reset it, or do anything special?
Apparently not. I moved it to a friend's car to try out, because he didn't see his car listed in the list of known working cars. However, it worked perfectly.

However, when I moved it back to my car, there was nothing I could do, to get it to work. I got the steady blue LED, but nothing on the car screen. I tried resetting; I tried uninstalling AA; nothing worked for six hours of trying to find the problem.

Then I noticed on the help site, that this might mean that the cable was bad. However, the cable worked in my car earlier in the day.

End of story: The cable apparently failed when I moved AAW between the cars !! With a new cable, AAW is now working perfectly.

I have exactly the same problem. The device disconnects in exactly the same place every day when I go to work. It does not reconnect automatically. Upgrading to 1.8 didn't help. My phone is samsung s21 5g, auto audi a3 8v. I've tried everything including aawireless wrapping with tin foil. Nothing helps always in the same place aawireless disconnects. Any ideas ?
For anyone interested. Upgrading to 2.0 fixed the problem described by me. The set Wi-Fi channel is 153. Finally, now everything works as it should at 5 GHz, so far I haven't had any disconnection, it's perfect !!! .

I still have some disconnections even with the dongle mode turned on. I tried multiple wifi channels, but it didn't help. Sometimes it's reconnects again, but sometimes I need to re-plug the USB

This seems like the most feasible workaround for me. What product are you using? Does an unpowered USB hub work or does it have to be powered?
I found the boxes for the two such hubs that I have:
  1. Sabrent HB-UMLS 4-port USB 2.0 hub with individual power switches (does not support charging).
  2. Unitek Portable USB 3.0 hub. 3 ports on top, 1 port on the end.
Both have an attached 6" USB-A cable & are unpowered.

I think #2 above is the better unit (more rugged), but I currently use #1 due to the switches. The switches allow me to reboot or disable the AAW without repeatedly pulling the USB cable out (which caused one cable to fail).

On one of my two AAWireless devices I noticed some issues during the past weeks.
Somehow my phone can't always connect to the device's Bluetooth any more. I have to unplug and replug the AAWireless device. Afterwards it works again. It started a couple of weeks ago, but it became more and more often . This happens now every 2nd time I want to to connect.

I made a reset today. Let's see if this helps.

Is this a known topic?

Hello,
I have purchased and AAWireless, and got it 2 days ago, but im having a problem...

I have a good android phone (octa core, 3 gb ram, 64gb storage), but the manufacturer never updated him to Android 9 or up...

Im still stuck on Android 8.1, but that have never been a problem until now!

I can´t instal the AAWireless APP because it says Android 9 or superior...
Why?

I can run all the important apps with no problem at!

The phone is : Vodafone Smart X9

What can be done?

I can't speak for the developers, but new releases of OS system software usually provide new features, which may be required for new software to work.

As I understand it, many (most?) users don't even need the app in order to use the AAW dongle. It is only needed to change settings if necessary. In many (most?) cases the app is not needed. If you need to change a setting, you may be able to borrow a newer phone from a friend.

Hello,
Thanks for your kind reply.
I believe we need the app, to pair the phone to the AAWireless.
Without that you can´t do the pairing process.

Android 8.1 is not so old... so i don´t see the reason why we (android 8.1 users), can´t have the app working.
Maybe if installing the APK directly could work?

I really would not like to purchase a new phone, just because one aplication, everything else works great... (Android Auto, PowerAmp, Waze, Maps, etc...).

Thanks again...

Best Regards,

LPC

You do NOT need the app to pair. I've done it several times, & I just pair directly:
  1. Connect the AAW dongle to the car (I think even a USB power outlet in the house will work, but I have not tried that).
  2. Open your phone to the Bluetooth settings screen, & select "pair to new device".
  3. Your phone should show a device named "AAWireless-????".
  4. Select it & wait for pairing to complete.
  5. Now plug the device into your car, if not already there. If you have set Android Auto settings as described in the documentation, Android Auto should connect within a few seconds.
This is an essential page to read: AAW setup -- just start with the latter part of paragraph #3.

I've never used the app to pair because it has never worked for me. I've tried to pair two of my phones without any luck (android 10, 11 and android 12) I had to manually connect it with Bluetooth but once I had, I can then use it fine and could use the app fine too. Obviously having the app is beneficial because you can alter settings/mods or tweak things incase something's not working correctly. To be blunt, android 8.1 is pretty obsolete and a security risk anyways imo I'd be buying a new phone before purchasing AAW if I had to choose...

and how i can inform him so i can downgrade?
the fact that snirpo has told you that you can downgrade means that he has already set up the app specifically for you, to offer 1.8 as an 'update'!
I am assuming that the message from snirpo that you quoted was a message to you and not to someone else!
If you post a message on this forum requesting a downgrade, if snirpo sees it he can offer a downgrade but there is no specific 'downgrade' option in the app so he has to specifically set up the downgrade for your device.

@worldonfire are any of the AAWireless units you have used, v2 hardware? I'm not sure about the cut-off, but if received in the past few months, it should be. Also, have you tried any of the quick shielding methods, tin foil or crisp bag etc? You may be passing areas of unusually high interference if it's happening with different cars, units, cables and phones.

@gcd how are you getting on with v2 hardware?

EDIT: beat me to it :)
Looks like it fixed the disconnections. I tried with 40 MHz and 165 MHz, not a single disconnection for now.

The only thing that is bothering me right now is, that if you stop and start the car for a min, reconnection takes a while

    Hello my friends...
After testing AAWireless with my old phone, i purchased a new phone.

An Realme 8, that is now updated to Android 12 and its faster then the Smart X9 i had.
I can confirm that AAWireless likes my new phone much more...

I have update to 2.0.1 and from what i see if i use 2.4ghz connection i have slowdowns and audio breaks, changing to 5g seems to iron these kinks... (maybe more bandwith?).

What i do notice is that my phone really heats up! And if i look into it, i just see Android Auto app running.
Its normal for the phone to be so hot?

whats going on? maybe its the WIFI connection?

Does it drains faster the battery? (that would defeat the idea of Wireless Android Auto)...

    Here is the Specs:

    AAWireless runing 2.0.1
AAWireless on the latest APP Version
Realme 8 with the latest updates and firmware on Android 12

Car: Citroen C5 Aircross (2019) NAC System (from Continental)

    Thanks in advance...

    Best Regards,

    LPC
    Hello,
I have the same car, and Samsung Galaxy A52 5G phone which also heats up (and drains battery) when running AAW...

Just rolled out app 2.3.0 to Open Beta as well (it was already available in the production track). I'll be pushing out more updates in the coming days and in the meantime we will start roll out of the 2.0 firmware as well (finally).
    10
Small update on firmware 2.0. We fixed the last issue regarding wifi client mode. I'll do a bit of testing tomorrow and then we are ready to go.

Will also push some more improvements/changes to the app next week.

We're pushing to people's devices at random over the coming week. If you want to have early access, please fill out: https://forms.gle/NndEexW18UTVVMUn6

Small update on firmware 2.0.0. Was planning to push it today, but we found some last minute bugs while testing together with the app. Going to fix them over the weekend. App 2.4.0 has been pushed to beta channel.

So I have some updates on my situation and wanted to share for future refference. I managed to get it working in "dongle mode" and also made "stop/start" work. Actually it seems that the only way for "dongle mode" to work was to also have "stop/start" enabled and functioning. It seems that withtout it my phone will not connect to the WiFi created for wireless connection (which is called "AndroidAuto-xxxx" when in dongle mode, different than "AAwireless-xxxx" when in "standard" mode.

The issue was the wifi being turned off by the system. Newer Android OS (11 and above I believe) have this WiFi setting option that turns off the WiFi when you leave a "known location" and turns it back on when you get back to those "known locations" so the issue is that the bluetooth beacon that is sent by the dongle is not enough to trigger WiFi to turn on and connect to the WiFi.

Note that this issue does not manifest itself when I am using a car with proper built-in Wireless AA. I have a Skoda Karoq that has built-in wireless AA and even if my WiFi is turned off, it will turn itself on to connect to AA, just not with this dongle.

Anyway, long story short, because when "Start/Stop" is active I have a constant notification on my phone from the app indicating the status (connected/not connected/etc.) it showed me "wifi is turned off cannot connect" or something simiar. So when I manually turned it on, everything started working. My phone connects imediately to my car with "dongle mode" ON and "start/stop" ON.

What remains an issue is that it will not work with "dongle mode" ON but "Start/Stop" OFF. It seems that without the helper app "helping" the phone to connect to the wifi of the dongle, the phone will not do it on its own. This is not a big deal for me, as I want to have "start/stop" enabled anyway.

So bottom line, everything is working perfectly fine for me now.

Hope this helps others and helps @Snirpo to figure out if they might want to change some stuff for their app.
It's probably helpful to explain for everyone how the process works :) So here we go:

When start / stop is enabled our companion app is in control of starting up AA. So wether dongle mode is enabled or not, it doesn't matter, because the standard bluetooth bootstrap of Android Auto is not used. That's also the reason why wifi is not turned automatically on in start / stop mode. Android Auto, being a system app, can do these things. From the companion app we cannot from Android 10 and above, hence showing the notification to turn on wifi.

So basically using start / stop completely invalidates the different bootstrap logic in AA regarding dongle mode, because bluetooth (to the device) isn't used to start up the process. It doesn't really matter if you use dongle mode or not.

"Note that this issue does not manifest itself when I am using a car with proper built-in Wireless AA. I have a Skoda Karoq that has built-in wireless AA and even if my WiFi is turned off, it will turn itself on to connect to AA, just not with this dongle."

This should also happen with AAWireless, AAWireless == 100% native, except when using start / stop mode like I explained above, when the companion app controls the bootstrap. AA always turns on wifi when using the native bluetooth bootstrap.

Why dongle mode doesn't work in your case is a bit of a mystery to me though...

    So summary:

AAWireless + "standard" mode == emulate native Wireless HU, does not need the companion app.

AAWireless + dongle mode == works as native dongle, like Motorola MA1, does not need companion app.

AAWireless in dongle or standard mode + start / stop == does not use the native bluetooth bootstrap, but trigger wifi connection based on handsfree connection of the car. Needs the companion app, not native.

Yes, I tried it in my Golf with MIB 2.5 Discover Pro High, a Garmin unit.

Set to Australia wifi the display shrunk, so I put it back and the display filled the screen again.
That's weird, I expected the display to be upside down...

Just kidding of course :) I'll investigate.

This thread is dedicated for AAWireless users.

AAWireless is a device which allows you to transform your existing wired Android Auto compatible unit into a Wireless Android Auto unit.

General chat, experience sharing and community support should be expected as well as support from the developers of the product: @Snirpo and myself.
    16
I just want to leave a big THANK YOU for the developers! You invented a great product and do a great job here.

Anyone who has ordered the product knows that it is a crowdfunding project, which may also have teething problems. I find it cheeky to get upset about problems, even though they are dealt with promptly here. What more should the distributors do than react to the problems here and offer solutions?

I also have problems with the device, but I was helped quickly. Even if it takes a few days.

Dear team: Keep up the good work!
    15
We fixed the "VW Headunit crashing on skipping tracks" issue now completely. Confirmed it's a bug on the HU side, latency makes it worse. We will probably push a new firmware by the end of this week.
I will also submit a bug report to Google, cause they can fix/workaround this issue as well for cabled users.
    14
    Hello. What's new in 1.5?
A full changelog for each release would really be appreciated :)
Thanks for all the hard work!
Yes, I'll write a full changelog next week from 1.0.0 to 1.5.0 and put it on GitHub + add a link in the app.

I've already waited patiently for delivery 3 months more than expected - I ordered In April and was coming in June but now that's looking like October. Now I read on the indiegogo forum that people in the UK are being charged an additional €27 by the Royal mail as the UK is now not in the EU.

    Hi Emil!
Just received my AAWireless, and will plug in and test tonight. Love the packaging, looks great! However… Since it was shipped from Hong Kong I was forced to pay a rather substantial import fee and duties on this bad boy. I was under the impression that they would be shipped from within the EU? Is it stands now I’m EUR 27,00 poorer :(

Looks like you are in the UK which is outside EU and also there is no way to pre-pay taxes with shipping company any more either....

This is a crazy. An additional $10 was already taken for delivery and it was meant to ship from the EU. I suspect the units have been shipped by Royal Mail / Dutch post. The Royal Mail rips off people in the UK because they add another £11 in admin fees on top of the 20% VAT even though goods up to £135 should be exempt.
    See https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...s-goods-sold-to-customers-from-1-january-2021

So not only has VAT been charged coming into the EU from China, it has also been charged coming into the UK ON TOP of the VAT already paid in the EU.

This is just rubbish. What the guys need to do is either ship it from Hong Kong which can cost £0.20 (there are hundreds of chinese ebay and aliexpress sellers doing this already
    See http://www.vatfraud.org/blog/stop-s...ons-universal-postal-union-upu-terminal-dues/
The $10 postage already taken should then be refunded.

The other way round it is send the item from Hong Kong and to mark the item as a gift and providing it is below £39 there is NO VAT to pay and NO Royal mail admin fee. Actually as the original product was $57 - roughly £41.25 This wouldn't be a crime seeing as we have had to wait soo long. This could also mean the $10 delivery could be refunded

The other way is to ship it via fedex and state the ex-vat cost coming from china and then add 20% vat that the developer should be paying to the UK HMRC.

Sadly if that doesn't take place, EVERYONE IN THE UK will feel ripped off because of the poor delivery and poor choices made by the developers.

    Cheers
    Disgruntled in the UK

First of all, your item wasn't shipped yet since in the June batch, so you could have not payed anything for shipping. Secondly, UK is outside the EU, there was a vote about this in 2016, so it doesn't matter if the package comes from EU or from HK or from US, it is treated the same, it's an import. If we import it from HK to EU, we will pay import VAT on the product, then when we send it to UK, we claim back that VAT and we should pay VAT in UK, since there is no more free trading between EU and UK.

Up till recently there was a nice option, to pay VAT and Import duty up-front, when you ship to the UK, but this has been changed and now they requires business outside UK to register with HMRC and do HMRC feeling even if they are residing outside UK, a lot of red tape. Since crowdfunding is not a sale, we can still ship the units to UK, but not sure if we will be able to after the IndieGoGo campaign.

We are also a EU registered company so we cannot (and will not take advantage) of any loop-holes in systems to sell at ridiculously / unrealistically cheap prices.

About the user who paid 27 euros, it turned out that user is living in DK, but provided the address as UK so his package traveled the wrong way, hence the extra duties and surcharges.

Not aware of other users from UK having to pay anything additional when they received the package.
