I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Act 1, with which I've been very happy. It has dedicated screen tap locations for different functions and onscreen sliding volume control. The play quality's great and it's very reliable. Am I missing something?

You guys gotta try out MX Videoplayer.

You can get it on the market for free, but make sure you also download the video codec for your device. If you're on a Xoom get the ARMv7 codec.

MX is the only video player I've seen that uses hardware acceleration and decoding. I haven't tested it with HD video, but it supports a lot of types including .avi

Watching me some Doctor Who :D

Rockplayer is my go to player, since it seems to be able to handle non-stereo audio tracks best.

I did just decide to give MX Videoplayer a try, and so long as its in software decoding mode, it too seems to be able to generally handle non-stereo audio.

when it comes to video players, i need to have 2 or 3 installed. I have yet to find a single player that can play all of my movies in certain formats. MovieGallery is great, but only plays mp4 and movies converted by DVDCatalyst. Rockplayer doesnt play some mp4 movies, but plays avi. MVideoplayer plays mp4, wmv, mpg, but doesnt play avi. Moboplayer, doesnt play all avi files, but is great at playing other formats.

If you use Moboplayer, by enabling software decoding as default in the settings, it will play everything.

I do have moboplayer, and have the software decoding, and it still does not play my mkv files, I really do not know why....maybe some estrange codec used in my files... I have tried movies and video clips...

I like vPlayer because of the gesture support (simply amazing!) and the fact that hardware video and audio decoding works on many more formats than other software (e.g. Rockplayer, which used to be my default player). Plus, vPlayer also supports streaming content, and I find it to be much more stable on a bad connection than the stock player.

Diceplayer is the best player in H.264/MPEG-4 standard codec.
it can use HW video decoder at any containers(AVI/MKV/MTS/MOV) and audio codec(DTS/AC3/AAC/Flac) combinations.

I second that. Had a few mkv files neither RockPlayer, Mobo or MX Player were able to play. DicePlayer did it without moaning and has a better picture quality (at least for) as well.

How are you getting Dice Player to work? I have one MKV (720p hi profile H.264, DTS audio) and Dice Player just sits there at a spinning circle and never plays. I can play the video in Rock Player (choppy in SW w/ sound, or smooth in HW w/o sound). I used XenonMKV to convert it to MP4 and it plays perfectly in Rock Player (and stock video player), but Dice Player (Trial) doesn't recognize that either. I would love to not have to re-encode any movies (even though it's just the audio and takes like 10 minutes), and I'd happily buy the full version if it worked. Running WiFi Xoom, 3.2 update, rooted w/ stock kernel.

You should keep all the players that come with separate codecs alongside them installed...

Get MX video player + Moboplayer + Diceplayer before you assume it doesn't work.

Such a pain to get videos to play on honeycomb but its getting better.

Did you test diceplayer trial 1.5.2 or above from Market?
Could you send your file to [email protected].

Hmm, I can't really help you there. I watch quite a lot of videos on my xoom, and I still have to find a video DicePlayer wouldn't play. Are you using the last version of the Trial version?

Using the latest version from the market (trial). I got it to play the video after installing those other two programs and their codecs, but there is still no sound when I play the .MKV I mentioned before.

I must have gotten the wrong version installed (I think it was an older version from my SD card in my Thunderbolt), uninstalled and put the one from the Market on...and it works! So awesome! About to make the purchase, thanks so much!
