Alright peeps let's get this rolling. These forums are a mess, so from this day forward (3/3/2011), ALL releases, whether they are mods, ROMs, apps etc. MUST have their thread titles named as such:

IF YOU ARE RELEASING A ROM YOUR THREAD TITLE SHOULD BE AS FOLLOWS:

[ROM][DATE] <NAME OF ROM>[Version][KERNEL]

•[ROM] of course meaning that your release is a ROM
• The [DATE] must be in the [Month.Day.Year] form. Example: [FEB.5.11]
• The <NAME OF ROM> is of course whatever your ROM is called. BE SPECIFIC.
• [Version] is the version of both YOUR ROM and the BUILD OF ANDROID. Again, BE SPECIFIC.
•The [KERNEL] tag is of course what Kernel your ROM uses. BE SPECIFIC.

An example title is as follows:
[ROM][FEB.5.2011]DESIRE HD MaXXX! 1.0 | Working Camera![v1.0 2.2.1] [MDJ S10.4]

This new thread naming IS A REQUIREMENT TO POST YOUR RELEASES WITHIN THE FASCINATE DEVELOPMENT FORUMS. If you do not adhere to this policy, your thread will be renamed without notice.

Depending on what type your release is, your tags may be different-IE instead of ROM, if you are releasing a kernel your tag should be KERNEL, and if you are releasing a mod your tag should be MOD. In example form:

[MOD][MAR.4.2011]Fascinate camera fix

[KERNEL][MAR.4.2011]Someone's new and amazing lagfix kernel!

Currently people are asking quite a few questions in the development section. Starting today (3/3/2011) any new question threads made in the development sections WILL be moved to the Q&A section without a redirect thread. DO NOT POST QUESTIONS IN THE DEV FORUM.

This post may come off as kind of hard, but it's meant to clean the forums up and help everyone out. For proof that this works, hit up the HD2 development forums.

If you have any questions about this new naming scheme, or concerns or questions in general, please do not hesitate to PM me or ask me in this thread.

This is all a work in progress, and if things need to be changed, we will change them as needed. Please bear with me as I try to sort this all out for the good of the forum.

These are the accepted and mandatory set of rules for the development forums. I am asking YOU the community what you think of them. I personally think that it has worked extremely well in the HD2 development section, and can see it working excellently here(as it already has), but if something can be improved please let me know.

Thanks-ashasaur

Woot!

This is very appreciated (both the naming convention and the crackdown on questions in the dev section).

I think there might be a little more developing of the naming convention though. The Fascinate dev forum doesn't have that many different roms, but lots of modular pieces.

Crack down on questions is nice, the naming convention I personally dislike. My 2cents.
I agree with this. All the tags make it harder to read and actually find what you want. Especially when things have been named the same forever.

I appreciate the input. This naming scheme was adopted in the HD2 development forums, and it seems to have worked wonders, so I am hoping it will do the same here.

Basically I want it to be so that you can scroll through the dev section and be looking for either a ROM, KERNEL or MOD, instead of having to read the entire thread title, or even go into the thread to find out that it wasn't what you where looking for the entire time.

This is all very much a work in progress, and if it doesn't work or needs to be tweaked we shall do whatever needs to be done for the good of the forum.

I agree, the tags will drive my eyes nuts. Not to mention I am not likely to remember to do it when I post things.

All in all, it might drive some people away (or it might not at all).

why not {[ROM]|[KERNEL]|[MOD]} [DATE] {[ALPHA]|[BETA][RELEASE]} <name>

All I think most are interested in is what the thread is for, when it was released, and if it's alpha/beta/release quality

Haha, do we have anything "release quality"? Even Samsung stock is released in the beta stage.

The date tag is subject to confusing issues with localization. The US uses MM-DD-YY, but many other countries use other permutations. However, there have been a lot of necro'd threads lately from waaay back, that contain harmful, outdated info. The date tag would help with that, at least.

At bare minimum, I find {[ROM]|[KERNEL]|[MOD]|[REF]} at the beginning and then a clearly named thread title to be helpful when trying to find something. If it doesn't have a tag, I usually overlook it and have to use the search.

Shouldn't kernel releases also tell you what kernel they're based on? If it's a 2.6.32.* based kernel that means it's most certainly not usable in eclair.

What the actual label is could be up to you. It could be either what RELEASE the kernel is based on (DI01, DL09, DL30, EB01, EB16, etc.) or what version of android (2.2.1, 2.3.2, 2.3.3, etc.) or the kernel version (2.6.32.*, 2.6.35.*, etc.).

I think the first and last are the most descriptive, the first being the easiest for people to understand what ROM it would be compatible with.

I gotta lol on that one, that picture is awesome. And, I am not going to lie, the username "ashasaur" is a combination of two characters from Pokemon-Ash and Venasaur. I came up with this name waaayyyy back when I was 10-ish years old, and it has always just kinda stuck. It may be childish, but it's how EVERYONE on the internet knows me, especially through YouTube.

Why not start using a more legitimate methods for tags instead of cluttering up thread titles? I know there are all kinds of tagging plugins for vBulletin.

Currently, we have one: "Is this a question?" Heck, it even asks that in the development forum where we aren't supposed to ask questions.

Imagine a world where this very quick mock up became a full fledged, better implemented, prettier, more robust, and real-life version of xda:

THAT is an excellent idea...one wich I am not sure has been brought to the admin or not, and I suggest that you PM svetius about it. That would be a huge boon to the site, and I agree with you that all the info in the thread title is rather cumbersome, but it seems to help newer users find what they are needing.
