Managed to get activesync working and might work for some others on xp
go to start >>> control panel > windows firewall >>> advanced tab
in the top box you should see 1394 connection highlight this and click settings
a box will open, scroll down and you will see two boxes saying UPnP tick both these boxes and then click ok then try pluging your artemis in again. it worked for me might work for you.
