I'm trying to add some new notification sounds to my pixel 2 XL and it just refuses to pick them up. I've placed the MP3s in DCIM/Media/Notifications and they just don't show up. Google search tells me to use a secondary file explorer to select them but I made the mistake a while back and told it to use the default one always and can't seem to figure out how to reverse that decision. Is there some trick? I've tried shutting down/restarting and no go. My custom ring tones showed up fine, but notifications.. nothing.

Goto app settings n clear the default for the app.

Can you be a little more specific? Under "Settings | Apps and Notitications" I do not see an app for setting sounds and "settings" itself has no defaults set. In fact it looks like only Phone and Photo's have values set. What exactly should I be resetting?

Search for the apps called "files" or maybe it is "settings storage"

Normally the extra tones are simply stored on the internal SDCard under

/Alarams
/Notifications
/Ringtones

with a root explorer the file path is

/storage/emulated/0/Alarams
/storage/emulated/0/Notifications
/storage/emulated/0/Ringtones

So the internet's suggestion to put them in DCIM/Media/Notifications was the issue. Moving them to just the notifications folder worked.

On a side note I still find the app to remove defaults from. I don't have any thing sound+settings related and Files has no defaults set. So for now problem fixed but wonder why it's not listed.

Using your root browser app. Navigate to: /system/media/audio/ringtones(pic). There you will see the native ringtones on your device. I also change the file extension on my specific ringtones to .ogg, reboot, and they should work. They do for me anyway :good:
