Ah, its down to the game. Some games do not scale up but others do nicely and some work perfectly. Just tried Speedx and that works okay with the accelerometer, not as responsive as the phone version but it works.

The HDMI image on a TV is acceptable but not very sharp because it doesn't change the resolution. Depends on the TV and what you want to do I guess.
Thanks for the answer! Another question though :p when plugged in to the HDMI on the TV, does the image display on both the device and the TV, or just the TV with the device acting like a giant laptop trackpad?

On both at the same time which is probably why it doesn't scale. Doesn't seem to be a switch or setting anywhere either it just does it when you plug it in. Maybe an app or something will come out to change that as the GPU should easily copy with full 1080p tv out. At least it works

Yea, nice that it works, but technically that means that you can't correctly display 1080p Video o your TV as the resolution is wrong? However, this is better than the Archos as I believe that while the archos DOES scale correctly (to the right resolution), it ends up turning the device screen off, so it becomes a giant trackpad. That's my understanding from reading reviews anyway.

yep, that's right unless there's something else I've missed but I can't see anything else you can do. Tried using it more on the TV last night and as you cannot see any form of pointer, as on a PC, you can't use it as a giant track pad when you cannot see what you are touching. In otherwords you need the image on the pad as well so you can see what you are doing. This is true of all pads plugged into a TV, you just cant see what you are pressing so it makes no sense to turn the pad screen off. You also end up looking at the pad all the time to see where you are touching it so the one and only application for this is for film watching. Personally I have a media player already which plays 1080p so I don't need this feature.

Having spent 2 days solid with it now the only problem I am finding is that I don't know what to do with it any more. Seriously thinking about ebaying it either clean or with all the mods applied. Let me know if you are interested.

What a shame! lol! What did you thin you would be using it for? Is it not fit for purpose or did you just kinda buy it as a gadget on impulse and now your not sure what to use it for? :p

My plan is to use mine to read books (Lapuda), watch TV shows using the iPlayer and streamed from my media server and play SNES games using SNESOID, and hopefully some PSX games too. I'm also hoping I can put some toddler-friendly games on it for my 1 year old to play with, because she is obsessed with PC's/Laptops, but can't yet get the hang of a mouse and keyboard, I think some simple touchscreen games might be just the thing for her :)

Not sure if I had a real purpose for it other than lounge gadget for internet, games and tv. It does do all that and much more conveniently than a netbook. Reading books is great apart from the weight.

The acceleromtere needs some work as it does seem to get confused now again and go upside down. That's just an annoyance.

I don't think this technology replaces anything yet but is more of a suppliment but I think that's down to the right apps. In my technical opinion it's like we've stuck a couple of technologies together without having a proper target in mind so we've done it because we could, not because we should, but it will replace netbooks and possibly notebooks in time for the average user anyway.

To be honest, the reason I'm not sure about keeping it (and my 9 year old firmly disagrees with this) is as much as I love technology, I don't like having gadgets around that don't have a real purpose otherwise it will just end up gathering dust somewhere...I hate waste.

I'll keep using it over the weekend and see what that brings. Having had a 7 inch device I think this one is a little on the heavy side so you wouldn't take it out hardly ever, not when I've got a fully functional netbook. If someone gets a Linux distro or W7 running on it as well...and its definitly capable of that, then I'll get more interested.

I guess I kind of envisioned them as "always on" devices? That might be the wrong way of thinking about it, but right now, if I want to go on the internet, and my laptop isn't booted up, I might just whip out my phone and open the page on that instead, as my phone is never turned off, just on standby, so I think I just kind of thought of android tablets as larger versions of the phone. Something that is always on and ready for quick access. Another thing I like are web apps. For example I actually really like the XDA app on my phone, and find it very easy to use and navigate the forums, so given the choice on a touchscreen device I would much rather use that than actually visit the site in a web browser.

I guess I just enjoy fiddling with devices too, I've had my Hero for a year now and I'm still not bored with playing/learning/breaking it :p So there's definately an element of that as well.

I must admit, the one DOWNSIDE that I can see with something like this, is with a netbook, you could have facebook open in a web page, MSN open seperately and a media player open and positioned to the side for example. With Android, you are kind of forced to do one of these at a time, so you couldn't watch an episode in the corner while chatting to friends, which is a bit of a shame really. I guess all of this is why I still haven't bought one yet, but I'm still very tempted :p

My stance with phones USED to be "I only use it for text and phone calls so I dont need a flashy phone". then I got my Hero and I've used it for WAY more than I ever thought I would, which is why im really interested in getting the Vega, as kind of an extension of that :p

Good point although with a task manager you can switch between thing quite easily (listening Apple?). I've never thought about using this in the same way as a laptop, in the way you describe, it is like a phone and I only expect to be using one app at a time in reality.

I agree with just about everything there, its a pick-up and use item which would probably stay in the lounge. I've been into phones forever including rooting, changing roms, all that. I get bored too quickly.

It is a simplification of a PC which for a lot of users will definitly hit the mark. Imagine all the people out there that still hate or don't quite get using a mouse and the complexity of windows or other platforms. There is the ease of which one can wreck Windows too if you don't know what you're doing. This sort of device removes the complexity and the risk and makes it so simple and intuitive that you can't do much harm. I think that'll be the appeal especially at the price. Needs more storage for a replacement for most people even just for photo collections.

Have you got one on order?

Nope, haven't ordered one yet, still out of stock with Dixon's stores and I'm not in any rush to pay over the odds to get one quickly! Will probably order one after Christmas unless something else comes out in the same price range which I doubt!

Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App

That's what I thought but curiousity got the better of me. I watching some ebay ones to see what they do but might just settle for getting my costs back. Sorry, not trying to sell it to you
