Hello, GPS is working with and without this patch same way, i have not noticed any difference. I have tried couple of roms (official) and upgraded radio with upgrade to 2.3.5, so far without big help for GPS.
Have you reflashed the stock ROM to verify it won't work? I'd like to suggest that... However, I wouldn't discount the hardware being your root cause based on your discussion.

To those who have issues with the GPS even with changing the SUPL server to various others. It seems that ICS has fully resolved any issues in the p999 to my knowledge regarding GPS locks. Even with this fix its like the AGPS data is not retained properly or something given the sats show but no lock is made after extended peroids of leaving the phone idle. With ICS it locks nearly instantly other then the initial lock even after 1-2 days of idling the phone. For those who cannot get ICS this is still useful otherwise i would recommend trying out the Alpha if supported for your phone and wish for a working GPS.

I'm glad that you are finding ICS to be good without this.

However, a lot of people report directly that this patch is still necessary for many ICS variants springing up.

I wish that ICS, or other future updates, would render this patch useless. At this point, such a direct solution remains to be seen.

I get nearly instant lock with this but unfortunately about 500 kilometers off. Accurate lock comes after 5-10 minutes.
That indicates that your phone is defaulting to tower-based information rather than GPS for your location. What app is telling you there's an error margin is 500km?

In location settings (for Android) disable all but GPS and try again.

Remove a case if you have one, too.

Give Google build a try. Probably that one as it's by far the most used.

Have a revision in testing. Will release in three or so weeks.

I tried the Google one to no avail, ill try the Google alternate later but I'm starting to think the problem isn't with the GPS.conf, not sure what the cause could be but this is pretty weird...

What different ROMs and radios have you tried?

Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I dont think i have ever flashed a radio on this, unless it was required for rooting, but i dont see that step in the g2x cm wiki.

As for roms, I had windmobiles crappy stock for about an hour or two after unboxing, then various cm nightlies up until last week when i flashed the new eaglesblood ICS rom.

Im pretty sure the gps never worked, i just assumed it had something to do with winds spotty coverage, until i heard someone with identical configuration as me mention that replacing the tmobile line with the google line in their gps config gave them working gps...

I'd make sure the radio is best. Try a stable ROM too. Nightly and alpha ICS aren't great for gps stability. This further helps us eliminate issues.

Feel like there is a problem with your NTP server

I flashed your 3.1 cwm patch on my phone and (I don't know how many sats it locked but) it showed my location miles and miles away. I edited the gps.config file and added 3 more local servers and it locked in 6 sats max but still it showed my location as couple of km away. After that I removed your ntp server and let only the local server remain. It locked in 9 sats and showed my accurate location. I didn't make any changes to your xtra.bin settings. Feel like something could be wrong to your NTP servers. As I am using cm7.2 so I looked into the build.prop file but didn't find any "ro.ril.def.agps.mode" settings in it, as mentioned in your first page.

Sounds more like a peering or firewall issue somewhere between those NTP servers in my pool and yours.

I doubt very much that those NTP servers have issues as they are stratum II servers. Basically, they are what many, many companies use to sync time with. NTP.ORG servers are mainly random people running an NTPD daemon with public access on their servers... That's why I did away with using it and decided to go with world-class very important NTP servers for data.

CM7.x has been a beast of a burden for GPSing for a great many of people and is mentioned in a couple of Notes and is the basis for a few more notes that it isn't mentioned in...

Alright so I added your NTP server along with the others and tried again and this time locking was pretty good. Got around 14 Sats. But then again it took a while before it started giving me latitude and longitude readings on my GPS stats. Maybe around 10-15 mins the first time I switched it on after a reboot. Is that how it should be?

It should be within 20 seconds. The first time could take up to 50 seconds. As I recall, you haven't tried a ROM that is closely tied to your device's stock ROM. Please try that with the patch. CM has had a number of flaws for GPS usage. I can't overcome ROM issues.

Just a friendly notice that the thread has been updated.

There is a new build which I recommend. Before questioning or inquiring why I removed the use of SSL, review the NOTE on the matter. This has proven to be a faster operation by tests in various regions and numerous devices. ;)

Lastly, I added a section for asking questions. Review that before communicating here. It gets really old seeing that people refuse to read what I've worked hard to write especially when it usually answers the questions asked.

Don't forget to consider donating if you appreciate the work and find it useful. :D
