Okay great, I'll do that now, but when I do, what would be the typical solution for this? Using a different recovery? I mean, I'm trying to flash a kernel that's supposed to be compatible with my rom, soooo.....?

That is where I downloaded ajk, and the md5 is that same in your screenshot, but shostock3's is different, so what's the problem here?

not sure... If the md5 checks out idk what the problem is. What recovery do you have and tell me the exact steps you are using to "install" AJK. Ive never heard of that happening with AJ's kernel

Jeboo, the stock recovery in the latest shostock3 in the Android development forum for our device. I reboot into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik, and flash from sd or internal, "can't flash installation aborted" (bad)

I'm at a loss here dude... Why don't you try to install mr-cook's cooked ROM. It's touch wiz AJK based Samsung ROM. Then try to flash AJK again and if it works then you know there's something with jeebo not allowing you to flash a different kernel.

I'm thinking it won't though. The only time I've seen that message in recovery was when the zip file was bad. It's got to be a bad download...

Edit: OR... Odin back to stock and start from scratch. It's not really as bad as it sounds

You would think so, but, I've downloaded it three separate times now. I'm stumped too. Now here's something weird: I've tried cooked too. That won't seem to install either. When I flash it, it reboots past the splash screen to where it should starts gapps, but all the com's like keyboard and phone stop and the phone bootloops. Could be a bad download, only tried it once, so I'll backup shostock3 and try to download and flash it again.

Sounds like you need to wipe data/factory reset in recovery. Did you do that before flashing? You only mentioned wiping dalvik and cache.

I think when he said that he was referring to his steps to flash AJK. if not @CyanJustice, always f/d wipe before a ROM install

Well, when I flashed shostock3 (the first time) I, of course, wiped data, cache, dalvik, the whole 9 yards. But after installation, I went to flash ajk and it's just like "nope." Even after a reboot and trying again.
I got cooked going on my phone and I love it.

I have an update to this issue... I think. I went back to JB and was trying to port an i9100 ROM and discovered i could not flash the kernels from AJ's dev host links. Confused i went to my PC and pulled some ancient copies of AJK 4.9 and they worked perfect. Not sure what's going on but i can't install the versions i dl from the link. I have to use my old copies.

Of course i guess it could have been a dev host screw up. Might be fine now

AJ Newkirk's most recent post is two and a half months ago. Do you think I should put up a link in the Download Repository? I wonder if he would mind?
He left for a good while once before and his dl links got goofed while he was gone. I posted a dropbox link to mine then and he didn't seem to mind. Thanked me even. In fact it should still be over in his kernel thread although it is closed.

Okay, I did some testing. I downloaded all three versions of AJK v4.9 from the dev host links. The NoSwap and AOSP versions install fine. The MicSwap version seems to be corrupt. I have a copy of the MicSwap version that I downloaded in October of 2013, which although it has exactly the same number of bytes at 8,144,957 bytes, has a different md5 sum, and installs fine. Here is the dev-host link to the working version of AJK v4.9 MicSwap. I'll also make a link for it in the Download Repository. (md5 : 6478BEA9D4B3662C29E431946FC64415)

What's corrupt about it? I have used it and didn't encounter any issues.

What recovery is in this kernel? And is there a version I can flash using Odin or can this be flashed from stock recovery?
I don't remember which recovery it has, but it's about two years old, and it's CWM based if I remember.

There is no tar version. You can not install this from stock recovery because it is not signed by Samsung/AT&T. If you want to install this, you will need to root the phone, install mobile odin lite or mobile odin pro, and use that to install the raw kernel file. If you need additional help with that, just ask.
