If you could add instructions to force B4 and switch back to automatic that would be great too.

This is what I posted in milan's thread:

To force B4 go to UE setting -> settings -> protocol -> NAS -> network control -> band selection -> LTE preference -> B4. To switch back to automatic do the same thing but choose automatic instead of LTE Band Preference.

I enabled CA and went to an information screen, and it shows this:

I just checked and had the same thing, but my phone has been okay since enabling CA yesterday.

Then I changed my LTE REL to 10 (see pic), and my status changed from "wrong" to "not configured" (see pic).

I had started to add that, but wanted to be sure about the consequences first. If you force B4, will it utilize other bands if B4 isn't available? Even if it doesn't, I could still add it with a note stating that. I just want to be sure that everything in the OP is based on fact. Please confirm for me and I'll add it in.

Thanks!

When you force B4 mode, it will only connect to B4, so no 1X or 3G (voice or text) will go through. To get full functionality again just hit automatic, and everything reverts back to how it was before (voice, text, data). No reboots necessary, just it takes about 30 seconds to reacquire signal after switching back to automatic.

So, maybe I'm missing something...so forgive me if I am. But, what is the point of forcing it then? If B4 is available in your area and you enable the B4 band and set it as your preferred band wouldn't it utilize it without forcing it?

Unlike the iPhone, I haven't found my Note 3 or the S4 to reliably connect to B4 by itself. Forcing it is useful to see if any service is available in a particular location or just to get it connected when you want it to.

Switched mine to 10 and the 'wrong' changed to 'NOT configured' as well. Maybe something that has to be added in with some future update. That's probably a bust for now. I don't live in an area that has the Band 4 available yet, so I can't test anything until I go to Chicago this week.

Here are two additional Codes

*#66336# brings up a CPRAMDUMP screen, no idea what this is
*#0*# will bring up a great screen to look at sensors, as well as many other things on the device.

Apologies if this has been asked before, but what is "UE Setting" and can I access it from an unrooted device?

Thanks,
Mike

Guys, I really need some help...I don't know what I changed by I can't make any calls...I wiped the phone and it's still not working?...Do these setting stick even after a wipe?
You might have to do a full restore via Odin. If it doesn't work after using Odin, you might have defective hardware. Check this link:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2483380

The bad part about all of this stuff, is that no one really has any idea what most of the settings do. Everything like this is a risk. I've been messing with some of it here recently, but I always take notes of what I changed and how I got to what I changed, just in case anything like that happens. Keep us posted so we know what we will have to do if we do screw something up. It will contribute to this thread.

Yeah, so I spent 2 hours on the phone with tech support...they couldn't fix it....good thing I work at a VZW store so I swapped my phone out :)....but I changed sim card, wiped, odin flashed back to factory still nothing...I don't know if it was something that I changed in those settings or if it was a fluke...but i could still send/receive txt and data worked...

Man, Sorry I was away all day and not able to check in on the thread. It almost definitely was a setting you changed in ServiceMode...those are firmware settings and do stick through factory resets. Most likely a mode or band setting. I've tried them all and several of them turned off voice. LTE only will only give you data...you need LTE & CDMA for voice & data. Sorry I didn't get to you in time!

Discontinuous Reception (DRX)

DRX CONTROL appears to be a protocol to reduce network utilization and reduce device power consumption. The question is whether or not turning this protocol off will help network connectivity and/or speed AND what effect it has on battery performance. I will turn mine off and see if I notice anything on either front. However, I live and work in an area with very good coverage, so I'm not sure that I'd be a good test case for the network speed/connectivity portion. I will definitely monitor battery consumption.

This setting can be found under [2]UE SETTTINGS & INFO, [1]SETTING, [1]PROTOCOL, [1]AS, [4]DRX CONTROL

Has anyone found how to change the Vocoder and P_Revision on the Note 3?
On Motorola and LG phones in the Service Menu, you can get to the Vocoder (13K, EVRC, EVRC-B 4GV-NB) and the P_Revision.
I always change the Vocoder from EVRC-B 4GV-NB to the original EVRC, since it sounds better as it's less "compressed", but also have to change the P_Revision from 6 to 4.

Ue setting protocol menu

PROTOCOL
[2]UE SETTING & INFO > [1]SETTING > [1]PROTOCOL

[1]AS (AUTONOMOUS SYSTEM CONFIGURATION)
This menu allows you to mod:
-[1] FREQUENCY LOCK on certain bands. Best left at full in order to receive all frequencies when traveling. can expeirment to see which frequencies work best stationary.

-[2] RELEASE VERSION, Read more here about what they do. I'd leave UE revision level at Dynamic to receive coverage in all areas. however LTE 3gpp can be updated to release 10 however 64 qam may not be supported in all areas which will lead to more loss of 4g. Release 9 still supports 16qam

-[3] DUAL MODE IMPROV - No selection

-[4]DRX control (Discontinuous Reception & Transmission), factory setting is on, (Advantageous to battery life)

-[5] SECURITY CONTROL (Not sure what these do)

-AMR CONTROL (Adaptive Multi Rate) Speech coding to improve call quality. Read more here

[2]NAS (NETWORK AUTONOMOUS SYSTEM CONFIGURATION)
**Sub menu
> [1]NETWORK CONTROL
This menu allows you to mod:
- [1]Service Domain, CS + PS. PS = Packet Switched or GPRS = General Packet Radio Service. Colloquillay referred to as 2.5G. CS = Circuit Switched. Colloquially referred to as 2G data.

-[2]Acquisition Order. when booting or searching for signal this tells the system which to search for first. I'd leave it at automatic, as either may become available before the other. however GSM is typically slower at aquiring signal than UMTS

-[3]PLMN Cell selection Read more here. But automatic is best ;)

-[4]Modify the band preference of each signal mode.

-[5]Run only select modes.
**

[2]AUTO ANSWER - Self explanatory

[3]SELLOUT SMS - ??

[4] DUN ENABLE/DISABLE (Dial Up Network)

[5]LTE RELATED SETTINGS - Don't phuck with the APN Rules they are carrier set, and only modified for unlocked devices.

[3]CDMA
Not much to play with here
eHRDP- is like the middle man between 3g and 4g speeds. Leave on for good non 4g data.
RTRE - Runtime RUIM Enable -- (R-UIM) Removable User Identity Module verizon users leave sim on.

Thats all I feel like messing with right now.
