Fixed Backlight !! atleast partially

So i flashed A8 yesterday just to give it a try and see whether the backlight issue was fixed.......i flashed A8 over cm10 qwerty...the backlight issue was continuous as before...so i tried some tweaking around....i did a couple of google searches too and i think i read this (below) somewhere..it solved the issue for me (temporary fix)

1) go to display settings
2) change the screen timout to some other value
3) leave the phone till the screen times out itself and locks

after this, the backlight didnt turn on for me, even on manually unlocking and locking it.......

so why is the fix temporary ?

* its because the issue comes back if say i start apollo and connect my headphones and then lock it....or sometimes randomly after locking the screen ( though since thats once in a few hours, i just use step (3) to turn the backlight off again
* the issue also reappers on every restart (do the 3 steps again)
* sometimes even after following the 3 steps, the backlight may still turn on and remain on for say 30 seconds before it turns off

A8 is pretty good otherwise....the smoothness even without any mods is really unbelievable...i needed direct inject mod on qwerty to make the rom this fast ( im gonna try it on this too soon)....

the other issues (minor) i faced :

* bluetooth connections took a couple of attempts to connect...it took 3 attempts from my bro to send me a song (it shows connection failed)
* the screen doesnt lock directly....it kind of blinks each time i lock the screen
* freezing or uninstalling few of the useless system apps (mail, movie studio, bubble, black hole, etc) caused bootloops (after the cyanogemod loading sign, it kept rebooting)
* from first impressions, the battery drain when in use is considerable...though i will give it couple of battery cycles before calling it a done deal (Screen, Android OS, Android System are the top 3 battery drainers)

i attached screen shots which show the battery drain over the night (2%) along with cpu state...pretty good

and another showing the drain when in use....

great job dhiru bhai :D:D

@LoLaTiOn

a swap SD for A8 would be great...i miss real racing 3 ;)

This is the first thing I always do and did the same for alpha8 and didnt get a bootloop.
I freeze/uninstall a lot of stock stuff and never got a bootloop, yet. :D
Problem must be something else.

I guess ur the only one facing this issue, coz since A6 no one has reported abt this.
I suggest u to do clean flash with 5files of DDLF2.
Good luck!

You work swap to sd function!?

Losco posted one simple line terminal command to swap SD. Just search it in qwerty rom thread or my post in Lolations SD swap mod thread in last pages.
Just use this command so that devs don't have to waste time in this again IMO. :) if u didn't find it then PM me, I'll send the link.

Since 3 days after changing governor to ondemand, no sod no reboots at all. Everything works great.

Two minor things that i noticed..
1. When there is miss call in notification, tapping on call back do not initiate the call.
2. When phone is locked sometimes it do not unlock pressing unlock button or home button. Only touch keys light up but screen doesn't.

ALPHA 8 Review

After testing nearly 48 hrs of testing here is my review...!!

Flashing procedure...!

- Flashed alpha 8 over alpha 7 (wiped cache and dalvik cache and fixed fixed permission)

REVIEW

- First word which come into my mind for alpha 8 is WOW...!! Amazing Dhiru....! Outstanding rom...!! :D :D
- Camera - everything works well (including photo and video)
- Audio - Like always its amazing...!
- Battery backup - This is the best battery backup rom till now. My screen shot will tell you everthing ;)
- On 2g net battery consumption is now reduced alot...!! Really improvement as compared to previous alpha roms.
- Two major bugs are now fixed in this rom :D
- brightness bug (I am really happy for this)
- screen flashing is totally stopped (wow...) :)
- In alpha 7 screen took some time to lightup when we press home button. But in alpha 8 it lightup immediately.
- Everything else works well smoothly.
- Smoothness of overall rom is outstanding...!!

So overall I must say (again and again) DHIRU YOU PROVED THAT YOU ARE TRUELY MASTER :)

Note - I have attated screenshots with better battery stats logs.

For people asking for swap sd

Code:
su
setprop persist.sys.vold.switchexternal 1

to unswap

Code:
su
setprop persist.sys.vold.switchexternal 0

Thanks for the review vishal, i'll follow the same procedure and report back.

Suggestion for dhiru: Maybe switch to ondemand as default governor? It's proven more reliable again and again on many user's phones, mine included. (and would save you a lot of crash reports).

I really did clean install (full DDLF2) but the wifi won't start at all and i don't see the MAC WIFI adress.
btw i lost my IMEI so i have fake IMEI.
any solutions please:confused:
Well, that changes everything.
WARNING: run the following commands only if you have a backup of you /efs folder. If you have already lost it, you have nothing to lose.
Open terminal emulator and run:
Code:
su
mkdir -p /efs/imei/
echo -n 08:00:28:12:03:58 > /efs/imei/.nvmac.info
Maybe if you know your original MAC address, replace the numbers above with the actual ones.

Hi,

My phone turned off during the night when it was on charger. It runs the latest Alpha 8 rom, but this happened many times with Alpha 7.
Here are the important lines from last kmsg, full log attached:
[13814.589935] charger: [13814589] rebooting
[13814.590423] SysRq : Emergency Remount R/O
[13814.591827] Emergency Remount complete
[13814.594085] shutdown !!

Hope it helps solving these issues.

Cool, "charger" write the current /proc/last_kmsg to /dev/kmsg so that you can see it later after a reboot, I didn't know that.
Anyway, the problem was related to WiFi, will try to understand what happened exactly.

logcats are useless for SODs/reboots, because if you can get them, it means that the device is running correctly. If you get them after a reboot, the cause of the reboot is not reported. EDIT: That's because logcats start from zero after each reboot. Only /proc/last_kmsg is available.

For people asking for swap sd
...
I've almost forgot. When Android studio was released I built an hideous app to test it that runs the above commands pressing two buttons. I made in few minutes and I really have a basilar Java knowledge, if you want something better, write it. I don't even need it. Here it is.

I also came to know that the only working version of Instagram can't be used anymore. Let me say this clear: it's not our fault. That's the problem.
I'm sure the problem is gralloc.omap3.so, because Instagram doesn't crash with the one taken from the DDK 1.10 (you can't simply replace it) and it doesn't crash in our stock ROMs (DDK 1.7). It crashes in our CM10/CM10.1 ROMs (DDK 1.8) and the official ICS ROM/CM10/CM10.1 of the Optimus Black (DDK 1.8).
If you want it fixed, report the issue to Instagram, even if probably it's not their fault.

I have started logcat in the following way:
nohup logcat -v time -f /storage/sdcard1/syslog.txt &
So I have the logcats before the SOD on my SD.

CyanogenMod is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 4.2 (JB), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

    Installation Instructions

    IMPORTANT! READ BEFORE FLASHING!
    1. If you flash this ROM from Stock ROM, it will wipe data due to different partitioning. The device would reboot while flashing and resume again.
    2. Once on this ROM, the most effective way of going back to any other ROM would be to repartition from Odin.
    3. While converting the filesystem, your efs that has your IMEI is backed up to /emmc/backup/efs. Keep a backup on your PC just in case.
    4. Incase if you don't get a network signal, check if your IMEI and Baseband are proper. If not, go back to stock and try again.
    5. Do NOT use Odin to flash Modems. Due to different partitions, Odin will screw up your existing MTD setup.

    Stock ROM
    1. Flash CWM Compatible Kernel (CF ROOT)
    2. Reboot to Recovery.
    3. Wipe Data / Factory Reset.
    4. Select the ROM zip from your SD Card and flash.
    5. The device will reboot and finish flashing.
    6. Reboot to Recovery Again.
    7. Flash Google Apps.
    8. Reboot

    Any other AOSP ROM (CM7/MIUI/CM9)
    1. Reboot to Recovery.
    3. Wipe Data / Factory Reset.
    4. Select the ROM zip from your SD Card and flash.
    5. The device will reboot and finish flashing.
    6. Reboot to Recovery Again.

I have finally purchased LG Optimus Black P970. Big Thanks to everyone who has donated.

I have received the phone yesterday and I have built CM10.1 and installed it. I started playing around with the HWComposer and testing out few stuff. After hours of debugging with the P970, I finally came to know what's the problem that was preventing HWComposer to run on Galaxy SL. I immediately made the fixes and viola! It works.

The UI is butter smooth now with almost no visible lag. The performance is same as that of P970. However, I have been facing issues with getting the HD video to work. There are some display subsystem errors and the screen turns off when a video is played. Once this issue is fixed, I will roll out the next release with HWComposer.
