oh, for the love of gods. REALLY? I was just asking for a replacement cable. I don't want to reinvent the charging paradigm. I just need a simple recommendation for a cable. If a thread could be highjacked any further I don't know how it could be.

I appreciate all your "advice" but seriously, this is NOT what I was asking.
Now just slow down a little, please!
Correcting an inaccuracy or adding an important detail can hardly be classed as hijacking a thread.
As for your original question ANY micro b to USB A cable will handle the job. They are readily available in a number of lengths and even at your local market stalls, which is where I recently bought 2 in 1.5 mtr. lengths. Just check out the quality and the sturdiness of the plug ends to get the best you can. They are out there and there is no special kind for the TP.

^^^ THIS!!!

I can't believe there are so many threads on so many different forums that imagine the TP charging cable is anything special.

I bought some cables that don't work. Well not properly at least. These cables do data, but they for some reason don't charge properly. I tested some cables on a Samsung Captivate and my TouchPad and on different chargers and PC. It's easy to give a blanket statement that "all cables are equal" but it appears not to be the case.

Easy replacement for HP touchpad charger

Pretty much since I got my touchpad during the fire sale, I have had problems with the supplied wall charger and even the supplied USB cable. The USB cable is easy to replace with pretty much any USB cable. But the problems I was having was the barrel charger would pop and crackle and not charge at times. Poor design! I even had problems getting it to charge plugged in to any USB port on any computer. I just discovered today that the USB ports on the back of my Xbox360 will charge the touchpad with no error warnings. The touchpad had been dead for 2 days. It immediately powered on with no problems. I'm sure you more advanced guys have probably already figured that out. But I thought I would share just in case. FYI. Its the Xbox360 S. Hope this helps someone.

True, I've had problems with all sorts of usb cables on different devices, the cheap chinese efforts tend to give the most variable results. I was lucky early on in buying extra length right angle micro cables for the TP, they work fine for it and any other device I've attached but I've also had a few cables that just don't work, they have gone in the bin as and when found.

Just Checking

To convert any regular USB charger into a TouchPad charger you need to add 2 resistors as per the diagram attached.

The presence of the resistors will trigger the TouchPad to draw the full 2A from the charger rather than the trickle charge it does when they are not there.

Please do not modify a cheap charger that is only rated for 500mA as you will most likely overheat it and it could present a fire risk.
Just want to make sure that I get everything straight here before I fry something... If I were to make this modification on a male USB-female USB patch cable, I could pretty much use any 2a charger and micro USB cable to charge my touchpad, correct? (Specifically a 5.2v-2.4a iPad charger?)

Thanks!

Not all Micro-USB B cables work with the TouchPad properly. I have a Monoprice cable which doesn't charge properly with the HP charger. Does anyone have any suggestions on a longer cable that is known to charge the TouchPad properly, and will fit with the HP flip case? Thanks for any suggestions!

I have two Touchpads and the original micro usb cables for both of them are unreliable. I am using a belkin usb to mico usb charge sync cble for tablets. Works perfectly. Plugs in nice and tight.

I lost my wall charger that came with my HP touchpad. The round plug thingie is what I'm looking for. Searching on Amazon brings up a number of items, for example:

http://www.amazon.com/HP-North-American-Charger-TouchPad/dp/B0055QYJJM/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_3

However, is there an alternative that works? I was able to use the Evo cable rather than the original HP sync/charge cable that came with the wall charger, but is there an alternative wall plug that works as well? Paying almost $28 for a charging cable seems a bit ridiculous.

Any help and advice would be most appreciated.

[[FOUND MY ANSWER]]
I found that Walmart was having a sale on the North American charger with the barrel wall connector for $11.99 and Meritline was having a sale for 6' long USB to micro-usb cables (pair for $4.99 no tax/shipping).

The listing on the Meritline page says that the cables are compatible with the Evo.

Given that the cable that comes with the HP barrel charger is pretty much monkey spit and fails within a month, I found a solution that works for less than $20.

Links are below:

Meritline Cables (use this code MLCK222YNL1 for discount (cannot guarantee how long this code is good for, drops the price for a twin pack of the 6' cables from $10.99 to $4.99)

I've had pretty good success using my Galaxy Nexus wall charger for the Touchpad.
