That was the conclusion a long time ago. They should have made a new hardware revision, not sure why they have not done so by now.
I also gave up hope and got a Huawei GT2. Great GPS/HR and with local MP3 storage, but lacking a few small useful software features that are present on all Amazfit devices. To me the most important: no display of distance based on steps on watch face.

You´re Right ! I have a Honor Magic Watch and none of the oficial an non-oficial watchfaces show the distance based on the Steps. But the GPS is very good. 2 or 3 secs to fix.

I have had my GTR for a month now......it's brilliant.
I have charged it two times.
Now it's 68% charged and one week ago since last charging time.

The GTR's gps is for me working enough fine, really astonishingly fine.
Mostly of my routes it's within "the road/path" I'm walking....sometimes it could be a bit outside but nothing big I could care of.
Anyway I don't see any problem within the cell phone screen....the errors only occurs when zooming in when I walk for an hour and not only test it outside door.
It's winter here in Sweden and I wear a big jacket and gloves.....I think the gps is working really fine from its conditions as pretty much fabrics/leathers often hides the signal.

My wife, daughter and father have GTR's also......men 47mm, women 42mm...we are all happy.
We love to use the watch rather than charge it every day.

Look the pictures I've attached here if my walk in my village, in exactly the same route. One of those was measured with phone GPS directly on amazfif app; the others was measured with gtr GPS. The differences are, as I've said before, reaching 5% overestimated by gtr GPS. According to gtr GPS I flew outside my village with 35km/h speed during part of my walk as you can compare on details... :)

I understand you're satisfied with it; actually I am too (beautiful, excellent battery, tons of watchefaces), but the GPS is more like a toy than a real tool. That's why I do not recommend it for people who needs it as an exercise monitor, unless they're using it with phone connected during exercises, just like I did before with the cheap mi band 3.

Me too, Honor Magic Watch 2 is cheaper then GT2 and has an excellent GPS, it's a great watch!
App "Health" shows both distances, the one based on steps and the one on GPS.

I loved my Amazfit Bip but I wanted something more elegant so I bought a Stratos. I loved my Stratos but I wanted something with a better screen and better battery life. so I bought an Amazfit GTR. The GTR was a huge disappointment and the GPS on the GTR was so bad that I had to resort to using my phone's GPS. All three are back in their boxes and have been replaced by a Huawei Watch GT2. It has been a couple of months now and I'm still loving the GT2. The battery life is not as good; I get about ten days with constant HR monitoring and 45 minutes a day GPS use. Unlike the GTR the GT2 has the 'Firstbeat' featrues, VO2max etc. Huami should never have launched the GTR; it was a disgrace.

GPS Ok, But, no Multitask

Hi everyone.

My GTR GPS is working good here where I live (Sao Paulo, Brazil).

I have done some tests with my Huawei Honor magic and My Amazfit GTR, and Both delivered good results, without problems. I have to confess that the tests where very short (almost 40 minutes each)

The Huawei GPS Fix is reaaly fast, but GTR is not that bad.

I have two complaints about the AMazfit GTR at this moment :

1) It has no MultiTask : I can do that on my Huawei magic (Start a Timer and Start a Training monitor). I do that when I go out for lunch : I start a Timer to remind me that my lunch time is over, and a exercise monitorirng process. Very good.
2) GTR still count many steps when I am comfortably seated on the bus. I comute every day from one city to another, and it makes a big difference. Yesterday, in a 90 minutes travel, the GTR counted almost 300 steps. Honor magic counted less than 40 steps.

That´s it !

I think I will give my GTR to my youg son as a Gift ! ! !

Thank you ! ! ! !

Hello !

I used my GTR only one week, just to verify if it is better or not than my Huawei Magic.

I used the gtr gps without my cellphone. Only with the gtr gps. I walked every day with the gtr in open spaces and it was ok. I t worked fine here in Sao Paulo.

I did nothing special... It just works fine. But, my Huawei Magic is better to count steps and can do 2 things simultaneously.
So, I gave my Amazfit to my son and kept the Huawei Magic with me.

Hey guys, not related to GPS itself, but in consequences of it I'm running without GPS enabled, so It's using only the step count to estimate distance, but this watch seems to be crazy, last night went to a 5 km run, and on watch face it said my step lenght was of 60 cm, couple of nights earlier, it said my step was 76 cm.

Anyone knows how this freaking watch calculates it?
I have 1,81 meter, and measuring my step length manually it has 80 cm average, I'm kind giving up on this watch, at least for running.

As it's said before, it's just a beautiful watch that works like a toy for its functions. There is no way to use it for serious exercise monitoring.

Hi All,

Late to the party but thought that I would let everyone know about my experience recently. My GPS on my Amazfit GTR has been fine up and till recently and then the last couple of days it stopped working. Not sure what happened, but managed to get it working again. I used the Notify & fitness for Amazfit app (Android) to flash an older firmware, resource libraries, fonts and GPS onto the phone. I then connected the watch to the Amazfit app and let the app update the watch back to the latest version. The GPS now connects again.

Hopefully this helps someone else out there.

Could you please tell more about this? Which old fw version have you used exactly? Do you have global or china version?

I have the GTR 47mm Global version running 1.3.5.66. I clicked on the "Stock Firmware" button in Notify & Fitness for Amazfit and downloaded 1.3.5.37. Went back into the Amazfit app and it force updated back to 1.3.5.66. Testing the GPS, the watch takes around 3min to connect to GPS without using A-GPS (via the Amazfit app). With A-GPS it takes around 2min.

Adding to this, no matter what firmware that I try install via the Notify & Fitness for Amazfit app, my watch doesn't boot up. When I open the Amazfit app, it will always force the "latest" version back to the watch. I have tried to install 1.3.5.68 (downloaded from https://t.me/huamifw) and the Amazfit app forces 1.3.5.66 back onto the watch.

1.3.5.66 here too. GPS seems to work here in the UK with 1 - 2 min time to first fix. I noticed if you unpair and then repair the watch in the Amazfit app, it seems to force an A-GPS update to the watch. Not noticed it does it otherwise, but maybe it happens in background anyway.

I noticed A-GPS is not working since the 2nd last update!!
+
Since the last firmware update I have another problem and it concerns a continuous attempt to update.
The Amazfit GTR 47mm Aluminium pairs correctly with the Amazfit application and immediately tries to update. Unfortunately, when finished, it writes failure and updates again. Over and over again.
+
it seems like it automatically did a factory reset & I cannot even change/sync watch face anymore

Since the last two firmware updates this watch has really become such a bad experience!

47mm GTR here, now on 1.3.5.72. All ok here. GPS still usually locks in a minute or so.

If there's a write failure, maybe the Bluetooth connection is poor and the firmware is corrupted on its way to the watch. I would try:
  1. Delete watch's Bluetooth connection on the phone
  2. Delete and re-install Amazfit app (may not be able to recover your historical data after - I'm not sure). Don't open the app or try and re-pair the watch yet.
  3. Reboot phone
  4. Factory reset watch (does the watch work before it's paired to the phone, so you can reset it?)
  5. Start again, with re-pairing the watch and phone from the barcode on the watch face.
  6. Keep phone and watch close. Let it try all the updates again
If all that fails, maybe the watch is faulty

Have you previously installed anything non-standard, like fonts?

In other discussion, isn't the CXD5603 Sony chip also used in Pace and Stratos?
Is it just the antenna that's badly designed or missing altogether?

According to https://www.sunnic.com/english/05_news/02_detail.php?NID=213 , shouldn't it support Galileo & BeiDou also?
    [/url]

The Sony CXD5603GF is used in all their products, from Pace to Stratos 3. This makes sense, as Sony manufactures the only GPS chip with 6mW. They integrate it with external RAM and "antenna".
All the models with their own OS share the same GPS firmware "18344,eb2f43f,126_gps.bin", that has not changed since months (May I think). So the software part, that directly controls the GPS hardware has not changed for months (although amazfit claims otherwise), just the interpretation of the GPS module output changed with the watch firmware update (e.g. outlier removal, averaging...)

GPS uses L1, L2 and L5 frequency. However, only one frequency is used in not so recent hardware. This is L1=1575.42 MHz
    1*s544FU9v2X_JOH-0Cr63CQ.jpeg

Now the usage of multiconstellation is limited to several factors
Is the chip supporting besides GPS also Glonass, Beidou, Galileo? Yes, definitely
Is the firmware supporting it? Do they pay Sony for the alogorithm? Probably not
Is there an antenna design, with a wide enough bandwidth and amplifiers for the full range, to get signal above the noise level for the different bands? No.
As I and other already demonstrated in this thread, Amazfit decided to not include a dedicated external GPS antenna for the watches with metalic bezel, but to use the bezel and housing itself as a kind of antenna. And this turned out to be a very bad decision. Amazfit "fixed" it by more A-GPS updates, so basically the chip has a better assumption of satelite ephemeric data. The chip can get this information itself from the GPS signal, as it is encoded within. However, this assumes the device has a good enough antenna to decode the data without error.

After a successful all-day test of catching fixes on the GTR (on average 20-40sec each time - but in a steady position when determining) I did a test today on GTR and old Bip at the same time on the same hand

    View attachment 4893211

As you can see, the GTR catches the fix more slowly than the Bip, and has a worse signal quality that does not improve with time ... As for the battery, I had about 90%, what is worse, on the way back I wanted to turn on the registration and GTR will not get through these 6 min fixa already on the way, bip caught fix after 20 seconds of walking.
In the GTR either the battery below 90% or the temperature -2'C caused that he stopped catching the fix ...

hey guys, I'm about to buy this watch (or the verge), but this GPS fix problem is a problem, the updates have fixed this problem? Can someone confirm? thanks
If you want a beautiful watch and don't care about GPS, buy a gtr, but if you want a real smartwatch, with GPS working, buy an stratos 3.
The gtr GPS is very inaccurate (even after last update my 9km walk is being measured with 5% inaccuracy, and maps shows bizarre movements. So gtr GPS is more a toy than a real useful resource.

Does anyone know something of what happened with Amazfit app??? I search in web but no success, does anyone knows if in IOS the app is still available? I sent a email to amazfit support, but they stopped answering me a long time ago
Today the app has been update and now the compatibility turned ok

    New App dated 19/09/2019
In the new version they have removed the "button" for check update in the watch

Like the feedback in the next posts, with the new APP, HUAMI have reenabled the compatibility between APP and most smartphone.
But the app crashes when trying to open one of the recorded workouts

Please note that somebody told me in a italian amazit related facebook group!
I would never take a look at the worouts in amazfit app, because most of all I share them into Strava, and check them in the Strava web portal!

The only times i opened them were when I have to check how many times my GTR looses the GPS signal during workouts
Because in Amazfit app this bug show some blanks between the tracked routes (bad thing... but correct), instead Strava connect the 2 stop-start point with a STRAIGHT LINE (mmmh, not so useful)

Every GTR model made before October 2019 seems to have a defective GPS.
Some users write on FB that they bought the GTR in October and that their GPS fixes within 10 seconds and the accuracy is perfect
