Lots of people still having issues. It keeps showing up and disappearing for me. Cant find direct download either.
More than 2 months and no updates? Am I missing something? Besides there seems to be no activity on this thread.

There is a special rollback package at the OB12 thread at the OnePlus forums.
Successfully flashed back to stable with this package
Flashed 11.0.8.8 on top of beta 12, used keepdata.apk and everything went smooth, just remember to disable magisk modules and substratum (ツ)_/¯
1. Download update & store in root folder
2. Open Magisk -> Uninstall Magisk ->Restore Images (DO NOT REBOOT)
3. Go to Settings -> System -> System Updates -> Local Upgrade and Upgrade (DO NOT REBOOT)
4. Go to Magisk -> Install -> Install to Inactive Slot
5. Reboot
You should be good to go.

The latest update for the OnePlus 8 Pro - OxygenOS 11.0.9.9 has been released. In terms of changes, though, the new release doesn’t have a lot to offer. The changelog can be found below:

- Added the Files by Google, find files faster with search and simple browsing
- Updated Android security patch to 2021.10
- Improved system stability
- Fixed known issues
I never updated since I have the phone, on original OS (10.5.12 IN11AA), Security July 1, 2020, Kernel #1...
I had zero issues with phone. I inadvertently clicked update

But stopped it, it's paused/failed since (notification).
Question:
I want to know the process... Was downloading and file updating concurrent? Or does the actual update proceed once the download is complete?
Reason I ask is if my phone dies, powers off or resets, is there going to be an issue?
I'm not sure I like the idea of some of the added compulsion features like Google Files, etc. I like that I have control over what's on, not on phone. I've rooted and done all that in the past (other phones) with the update is that the only way to maintain control?
How is OS 11overall?

my way to root:
1. download an copy Magisk-20.4.zip to sdcard
2. CMD: adb reboot bootloader
3. CMD: fastboot boot TWRP-XXX.img (twrp will not be installed)
4. TWRP: install/flash Magisk-20.4.zip (installs Manager too)
5. TWRP: reboot, done!
