Google never really cared for its hardware department, it was always a side job, a hobby. An experiment - to showcase Android. That shows - in many ways.

If Google had been serious about this endeavour, they would have pushed the FP fix to every user after no more than 24 hours after the first firmware got rolled out. Instead, they just don't give a s*it and expect people to wait for months to receive important bug fixes, even though the FIX IS ALREADY THERE.

I need to repeat the latter, since you can't fix a problem without having a fix. But Google has a fix. ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS PUSH ONE BUTTON. Especially since they already released a firmware that can be applied to every Pixel 6. It's... uff. Pathetic.

I would have loved to see the P6 get released with Android 11, and 12 would have been an optional update. That way people could have waited for Android 12 to not be a buggy mess anymore.

Many people that flame - or quite frankly, hate - the Pixel 6 after owning it, only hate Android 12. Since that is a broken mess. A lot of bad blood could have been avoided if Google shipped the P6 with a decent, stable, good Android version.

I mean, this is Googles alleged Flagship. Their most priced hardware product. And they showcase it - WILLINGLY - with a mess of a broken OS? How did any manager up in the chain sign that one off? Does no Google manager actually use a Pixel phone as a daily driver, or how it is possible for them to not notice this as a huge issue that needs to be immediately fixed?

I'm still using my 4 XL on Android 11 until Android 12 is fixed (hopefully this month?) so I can switch to my P6P.

Honestly, I usually wait a few months before getting a Pixel but I didn't want to miss the free Bose 700 headphones offer (in Europe) for pre-orders. Especially since one of my co-workers is probably interested in buying it from me. That means getting the 6 Pro for around 700 euros, which is a good price!

    The latest update of 2021 is rolling out today with the Android 12 December security patch for the Pixel 3a, Pixel 4, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, and Pixel 6 Pro.

    In the most recent Android Security & Privacy Year in Review, Google notes that “no critical security vulnerabilities affecting the Android platform were publicly disclosed without a security update or mitigation available for Android devices.” Additionally, there was an 84% year-over-year jump in security patches during Q4 2018 compared to the prior year.

    Besides the December Feature Drop, this update widely rolls out improvements to the Pixel 6’s under-display fingerprint sensor that were first introduced last month in the US and Japan. There is no update for the Pixel 3/XL this month, with the next release coming sometime in the first quarter of 2022.

    The Pixel 6 update will be available next week.

    So many issues they need another week to try to correct them lmao. Maybe if their internal testers actually tested things before releasing a half baked OS and phones they wouldn't have so many bugs to fix.

I've actually been keeping an eye on the Samsung s22 launch. I never thought I'd ever own another Samsung phone, but I'm close. The s21 got A12 less than a month from the pixel launch, so, it doesn't seem like I'd have to wait 6 months for OS updates, and, they have a theme store. So, you can actually make it yours lol. Ugh...

    Back in the day, Pixel firmware updates never had these many fixes - it's a shame, and quite frankly, pathetic, that Google released Android 12 - after a 3/4 year of public beta testing ! - in an obviously broken state.

    And jea, I can only agree with your assessment with Material You. We lost a lot of customization and are now forced to endure a UI that was made for an 80 year old colour-blind, requiring moon-sized letters, widgets and unicolor-backgrounds across the board.

    If I could, I would immediately return the entire UI to Android 11 - that one was beautiful and just worked. I see no advantage in Android 12. It's the first Android update - in my Android phone owning years - that felt like an actual downgrade, instead of an upgrade.

    Yep..... material you is hideous. Love how it changes the hue of the greys instead of just the accent color. Thought I wouldn't say it either, this will be the last Google phone for me. Can't wait to get rid of it.
