Just paste the update packege in storage root and reboot, update manager will detect the update. Start the update, system will be updated to A12 without any data loss.
Hey can you help me please, where is the System Root located? EDIT: OMG YOU SAID STORAGE NOT SYSTEM...Still where is that?

ASUS ROG Phone 3
Hey help. I have an issue. I downloaded the beta A12 from a link here some months ago. Now after placing the stable A12 in the internal storage, it shows update failed. Don't know what to do
Maybe it's because u already flashed A12. The update file was to turn version 18.something to 31. Something that is the official one. What you can do is in the same Asus link posted, there's a file to downgrade A12 to A11 with the exact steps ( do backup) that and then do the exact same steps u did now.. itll work!

ASUS ROG Phone 3
Hi I have the ROG 3 Strix and it doesn't do the update for me. I downloaded the 12 update for my Strix from Asus and copied it to the root and nothing happens. Greetings
you can use the rog 3 non strix version too. because the kernel is exactly the same as the 865/865+ the main difference between the two is that non-strix has more ram. but doesnt really affect the kernel controlling the firmware.

after you copy and paste it cold reboot your phone. power + volume up when it restarts. when its back in android it should start up.
