Whether eMMc bug could be invoked in the new Android 4.0.4. If the answer is either : yes or no : The fact shall be announced loud and clear. It is also strange that some experts? and even samsung saying no such bug exists, even offerng 100$ if proved (read in general section post).Users shall sigh in relief, if the bug is eliminated.

The app only checks whether your processor chip or whatever is known to brick devices during a factory reset/data wipe, which has always been a problem even in Gingerbread days. It is a hardware fault, but triggered by certain kernels. If Samsung were to edit/change the kernel, then it would be fine.

As I understand the defect is in the firmware of the affected processors (not the firmware of the phone). The ICS Kernel up to 4.03 trigger the bug in the processor firmware on wiping data in CWM Recovery. So you clearly right, that the GOTBRICKBUG from Chainfire can not show if a new phone firmware/Kernel will make problems, it can only show if your phone has an affected type of processor. ;)

if 4.04 is save is still under discussion. Maybe someone in China/ Singapore knows more, where it´s released first.

what a pitty

thank´s Dr. Ketan! :good:

I was about thinking to try the new 4.04 German version.
What a pitty, can´t believe what the guys at Samsung are doing. How can they release a new firmware and don´t correct this well known brick bug?!? :(

Well, so much for my hope of a fix. Looks like I won't bother updating from 4.0.3 and, if anything, flash another kernel on.

Samsung must pull their finger out & sort out this problem quickly. The Note 2 is probably going to be released in August. Owners are not going to upgrade if this is the sort of treatment they get. :(

Ohhkeyyy...so...stupid question, probably...

I want to give my dad my Note and he asked that I return it to stock. I'm running Cyanogen Mod 9 right now, latest Nightly.

I'm going to revert with PC Odin to some old stock, not-rooted GB version, like KKA and then let Kies update it to the latest version available for my area.

Does the emmc bug also imply that my dad can't do factory resets either (I imagine so, since they involve a full-wipe...).

I know this is a bit of a lame question, but since using Cyanogen I've stayed away from the whole Samsung ICS mess and haven't really looked into it.

Yes even on full stock ics updated with odin/kies/ota will have emmc brick bug. But if you dont use wipe/reset then it hav no problem. Better keep on latwst GB ROM if you want reset function usable.

Thanks for the quick reply Dr. Ketan. I...can't really recall how many times you've helped me with my Note since I got it...

Wow...bummer. You'd think Samsung would fix such a FORKIN MAJOR bug in their devices after...how many months since ICS is out? Aren't...they the least bit ashamed that CM did a better job than them in a shorter time-span and with lesser resources? (obviously they're not a billion-dollar winning phone and software making company)
