Hi, as you I used for many years Skvalex Call recorder, then I used not rooted Oneplus 8Pro recorder, but now stop working with Android 13. So I came back to Skvalex...does it works without root? (EU region).
When I try to use adb I've the error:
Exception occurred while executing 'grant':
java.lang.SecurityException: grantRuntimePermission: Neither user 2000 nor current process has android.permission.GRANT_RUNTIME_PERMISSIONS.

Thank you

My rooted Google Pixel 6 Pro was recording all calls properly since day 1 (sometime in October 2021) with Android 11, then it updated to Android 12 and now Android 13. However, with Google's new Android 13 QPR2 ( Quarterly Platform Release) which released approx 10 days ago, it looks like Google has changed something again because I am experiencing that your recorder is now totally not working (it indicated that calls are recorder but with sides are in silent mode!) when I updated to this release. Since this is a brand new situation and I don't think there are too many people have the same experience. As call recording is really important to me, I am going to flash my phone back to the regular Android 13. But if Google is really put in codes to band call records in this QPR2 like it did with Android 9 and afterwards, then eventually we all will be affected as the QPR will be dropped to the regular A13 in a few months.

Edit: After flash back to the regular A13, my Pixel 6 Pro record phone calls again with the default setting. This confirm that Google has injected something in the QPR2 to prevent call recording. I really hope you are able to solve it as the features will be dropped to regular A13 soon.

My Pixel 6 Pro has done the same thing for the last 2 months. It also does it with the 64bit version as well.

I've used it on the Google Pixel 7 Pro rooted and with the Magisk module and it works fine. It's configured using the standard/default settings in the app:

To be honest, I didn't try it without the Magisk module just because that's how I had it setup before (on another device) and I moved things over in a similar configuration.
Hello, may I know which a13 build version you r on? I'm going to try magisk module.. will see what it looks like, app version seems has fancy ui..

Yours is the stock regular A13 and it is the latest which skvalex's call recorder still working. With Google's beta program, the A13 QPR2 ( Quarterly Platform Release) Beta 1, my Pixel 6 Pro build no. is T2B1.221118.006, the call recorder just stop working. Since the features of the QPR2 will be eventually dropped to the regular A13 which might prevent call recording to not working anymore and that's the reason I reported it here to skvalex and hope he can look into it to solve the problem beforehand. If you want to keep call record with skvalex's recorder, stay with the regular A13 and don't update to the beta program.

Yes.. 221205 is the last stable build...not test build which you were using.i definitely Will stay away from it. Have you get a chance to try if Google voice can be recorded by skvalex?

I think I've deduced that it's the proximity sensor on my rooted Pixel 3a that keeps causing Call Recorder to fail. Tried disabling the sensor, but of course, then everything else stops working, as well.

Same issue with QPR2 on Pixel 7 pro, rooted. Neither Magisk module nor app work.

Funnily enough when I first set up I restored the app from a backup from my OnePlus 8 and it worked half way - it recorded me but not the other part (very faintly, probably feedback into the mic)
Gonna try that again to make sure.

Would be interested to hear how you make out. I've tried restoring, myself. I've also tried a fresh install, using as a magisk module, about all the setting combos you can think of... Feels like I've tried just about everything so far, but no love yet. With my phone, Call Recorder will work great for four or five calls and then just drop a couple randomly or fail in the middle of a call. Really frustrating stuff. Good luck.

Didn't have the time to try yet because I had to rush my boy to the children's hospital. But what's interesting is that the settings I used on my OnePlus and that half worked on my P7P and the settings I applied even I installed fresh, were identical!

Perhaps it was a coincidence that it stopped working at the point I installed from scratch and it was due to stop working like it did for for you...

Hope all is well with your kid. I wasn't able to compare my current settings to old ones because with the old phone, I was using a much earlier version of Call Recorder. The settings don't line up all that well between the old version and the new so it's hard to compare. But it seems like I've tried every possible setting combination at this point. I'll think I have it licked and then it will fail. It's maddening since Call Recorder has worked flawlessly and effortlessly for so many years.

I don't mean to offend you. I see your app has very good reviews. But with recent changes in Android, if call recording apps cannot record both sides clearly, then the same should be made very clear, so users are aware of the same. I'm aware developers can't do much if the OS blocks apps from working properly.
Of course, users are aware of these changes in Android 9 https://skvalex.org/help/android-9-pie

When we say call recording works, it IMPLIES both sides of the conversation is being recorded, and both are audible in the recording. This is understood by default.

If that isn't true, then the limitation must be EXPRESSLY stated.

I see there are very limited applications for recording a one sided conversation, such as listening to a teacher's lessons, etc. But those are better classified as recording, and not call recording.
It's better to clarify explicitly every time what you mean to avoid misunderstanding.
    2
I keep seeing references to the system recorder, which I know the Pixel 4XL has had but it appears to be either disabled or Google has removed from Android 13. Is that accurate? I seem to recall there being some way to access it.
    Any recommendations?
If you want 2-way call recording - get root. It's the only recommendation for any phone since Android 9 that don't have built-in call recording. Pixel phones don't have system recorder that could record to a folder accessible by Call Recorder.
    2
Can you elaborate on how just one side's conversation can be useful to anyone?

Without context (one sided recordings), conversations can have completely different meaning and can be misused.
An user can repeat some information during a call if it needs to be saved. Also, one side recording can help to remind what conversation was about. It's not ideal for sure, but it's better than nothing.

Does this app work on S23U bought in US/Canada without root?
Sure it does. But with limitations that Google has brought to unrooted phones in Android 9.

    Call Recorder - SKVALEX
    version: 3.5.5

Last update of the app in this post: 21.02.2023

    Download

Purchase over PayPal/AliPay via website: https://callrecorder.skvalex.com/purchase

    Description:
Call Recorder - SKVALEX is intended for automatic call recording. The app provides functionality to record both sides on devices with such support. But some devices don't have 2-way call recording support, or have issues with Bluetooth recording.

Also, the app provides wide functionality to manage recordings:
    - Search recordings
    - Conversion from one format to another (e.g WAV to FLAC/OPUS/MP3/etc.)
    - Adding notes to recorded files
    - In-call control button while call recording: you can easily start/stop recording during a call
    - Enter to the app using password (or fingerprint)
    - Auto clean-up - automatically removes old recordings according to rules set by you. Starred recordings ignored.
    - Exceptions: you may set up phone numbers, contacts or groups for specific actions, like always record or do not
    - Filename template: you can easily change structure of created files
    - Cloud backup support
    - Playback recording over main speaker or handset speaker
    - Access recording from within contact info
    - Call confirm: the app will ask you whether you want to make a call or not
    - After call actions dialog: the app will ask what to do with a recorded call
    - Vibrate on call start/end

If you want to get option "start recording on answer" work without root, then you'll need to grant READ_LOGS permission to the app via adb:
    Code:
adb shell pm grant org.skvalex.cr android.permission.READ_LOGS
Note, that you may need to manually enable logger in engineering menu (or anywhere else where your device manufacturer disabled it). Don't ask questions "how to enable logger" here, you better google it or ask it in forums about your specific device.

    Hi
Today I got the attached email from Google. The app is banned from the Play Store. I sent appeal, waiting a reply from Google. Hope they'll allow to reinstate the app. I think the issue was because of linking to AlsaMixer: https://github.com/skvalex/alsamixer

If you like to purchase the app, you can do it via the site: https://callrecorder.skvalex.com/purchase?hl=en

P.S. If Google won't reinstate the app I'll do my best to keep licenses for people who already purchased the app.

P.P.S. You can install apk from the OP. The app should be able to verify the license.

    Hi Skvalex,

Let us know if you're still around and if you have any news about reinstating the app in the Google Play.

    Google won't reinstate the app.
But I still can publish the app to the Play Store as a new one. So I'm working on it now. It gonna be a free trial app + another app to unlock the full version. I'll create an apk which will unlock the full version for people who have already purchased the app. So they won't have to pay for the app again. Also, I have to remove all root functions from the app which gonna be on the Play Store. So another apk with root functions will be on the xda.

I hope I release the new version till the end of August. Magisk 13 will also be supported.

    2. I've attached the Unlocker for people who purchased the app on the Play Store before.
    3. I will upload Root module for this version tomorrow. Also, Unlocker from the site won't activate this version. I'll upload the new unlocker tomorrow as well.

edit: You can now update purchase status in the client area by entering your transaction ID: https://callrecorder.skvalex.com/clientarea and download Unlocker from there.
