[Android 4.1+] HeadUnit Reloaded for Android Auto with Wifi

OK, I just tried the intent. It didn't work but, what it did help a little. OK, so before I added the intent I would have to randomly hit the big wifi button and, eventually it would connect. I don't know if it is just my atoto S8 Standard headunit or not that gives about a 15-25 second delay before I'm able to hit the wifi button and, just connect. What happens now is I just sit an wait then the headunit flickers once and, when that happens when I hit the wifi button it connects. So basically instead of me randomly hitting the wifi button hoping to eventually connect, I just look at the screen for some seconds (under a minute though) see the screen flicker then hit the wifi and, its gravy over rice. If I'm doing something wrong maybe someone can chime in . I have attached pictures.

I will try what you mentioned tomorrow. The only reason I used Bluetooth was because that is the fastest connection when getting in the vehicle and turning the engine on. Have you had a chance to experiment different things yourself to avoid having to hit the wifi button? Also are you connecting faster than 15-20 seconds?

I've been using WiFi Launcher method in my current car. I've switched vehicles since writing the older post I quoted along with my instructions to you. I've also switched head units and have a much better Mekede head unit (based on Joying/fyt units) so I hope to enable the full "Bluetooth 2" at some stage, which should allow the so-called native wireless Android Auto. My phone tells me it is capable when it connects to the Bluetooth but it doesn't work.
But anyways, with the WiFi Launcher method recently, HUR has been crashing to the home screen after a few seconds on the first connection (but usually sticks on the second connection if I switch the engine off and on again, the IT guy's first course of action) so I might just give the phone hotspot method a go again. At least then, if it fails while I'm driving, I can fall back to the head unit's Maps app. I also like keeping its apps up-to-date and some YouTube Music downloads for when I'm out in the bush with no reception, phone dead, etc.

I'll give it a go and get back to you.

In your photo I see you've only filled the action field but you'll need more.
Again, only just noticed but Emil's second post outlining the different methods also explains how to use the WiFi intent.

Automation
To automate starting of HUR when connected to a Wifi network you can use your preferred automation app, for example macrodoid or tasker or anything else, using intents. The intent needs to be configured like this:
- Action: "gb.xxy.hr.WIFI_START"
- Packaged: gb.xxy.hr
- Type: Broadcast
- Receiver Class: gb.xxy.hr.WifiReceiver

"Type" is Target in Macrodroid

x=640, y=200 worked for me; enable Pointer Location in Android's Developer Settings on the head unit to find what works for yours.
I also added a constraint that HUR is running in foreground.

Thanks for the insight. I will keep playing around with it as I get a chance to. Lol, I'm not in IT, so I'm not as advanced in that area but being the Mc guyver dude that I am I always end up working things out. I'm grateful for your advice and, I enjoy this project. In the end, if I have to get on the pre order list for Emils small wifi box then I will do that.

Have a look through the HUR settings.
Touch and Input > Key Configuration
If the buttons aren't getting recognised there, I can't help you.

I don't know if it will help you, but I use the WiFi launcher as well and I found that on my case normally the HUR crashes to the home screen if I don't turn off the app completely after using it. What I do is guarantee that the HUR app is completely turned off before I leave the car, if I do that it works fine the next time I use it. But if I leave it running or I don't turn it off completely it crashes.

I don't know if it will help you, but I use the WiFi launcher as well and I found that on my case normally the HUR crashes to the home screen if I don't turn off the app completely after using it. Well, the head unit will be off until I start the car and it'll still happen but I might give it a try if I get sick of always having to wait until it connects to the phone's hotspot. Thanks for the tip. Maybe I'll see if a macro to force stop HUR will still run after a few minutes while the head unit's in standby.

Are you using an Android head unit? There may be a setting to enable video playback while driving. If not, try software decoder in HUR.

I am using in USB mode, but the headunit doesnt respond to voice messaging or finding phone numbers by voice. Messages was working earlier a few months ago but google maps was very laggy so i unchecked all wifi settings to speed maps up and it si great now but voice messageing not responding.

I want to use HeadUnit Reloaded on my PX5 Erisin Head Unit in combination with a OnePlus 6T and USB connection. Connection seems to fine and almost everything has been configured, but only the first 3-4 touch inputs are functional. Afterwards the touch doesn't work anymore. With a short touch no response, and with a long touch I see that something happens (button is marked), but the button will not be "pressed". Is there a fix or an option what I've to set to?

I am trying the app on my Chinese HU, it is android 7 unit, I just read the forums but i cant get nothing to work, when i try self mode it keeps saying Error while connecting to aa: connection refused. and i tried wifi direct and hotspot, but nothing is working. am i Missing anything? thanks in advanced.

Self mode is for using your head unit as the Android auto device. Without using any phone. Self mode is looking for Android auto server running in the same device. So, the problem might be that you're not running it. In the same device, enter Android auto developer mode and then, choose Start head unit server. But I don't think this is what you're looking for. If you want to connect your phone to use Android auto, try choosing USB instead. Make sure your phone is set to "Data transfer / Android auto" and, if possible, enable USB debugging.

You are not using the intranet. So definitely not exactly the same.

That'll appear like Android Auto appears on phones. If you go to the settings in that Android Auto app you've downloaded from the Play Store, scroll to the bottom of the Settings page and tap the Version & permission info section a bunch of times until it asks to enable the developer options.
Then, in the three dot menu at the top of the Settings page, start the head unit server.
While the head unit server is running, start Self Mode in Headunit Reloaded and you should see how Android Auto is supposed to look on car head units. Self Mode may be laggy so follow the various instructions in this thread to achieve the same result using Android Auto on your phone instead of on the head unit and you'll hopefully have a smoother experience.
