This looks like your answer

Cool .. i only hope for 1 thing.. hope it takes time like nougat not like oreo ..

Oreo on klte took so so long (many months unofficial roms) with many bugs and missing features (fixed slowly later).. while nougat came pretty soon (1 month for official roms) and with little amount of bugs (fixed later too)

Not asking about ETA, just asked about release . . .

Oh okay, good I thought a cardinal rule was broken. . . . . . . . . .Wait! Those are the same thing! Sneaky

With Android "P" is it easier than Oreo`to build Rom's or port ?
Let's see... Hmm no, or rather, I have no idea because I've never done either one pretty sure the answer is still no. You may be thinking of project treble and if so I don't believe that project has any benefits for devices that lack the support hardware, (aka devices that got the android Oreo update or shipped with Oreo or pie. If it was easy as pie we would already be running it on our s5's now.

I don't think that's entirely true. If you consult this graphic, a lot of time on 8.0 was spent converting #1 type HALs to type 2 and 3. That work is already done, plus the ones that were able to be "binderized" (#3) should work out of the box on 9.0 if I understand correctly. You can see the HALs here:

in terms of radios everything worked fine sms , ussd , data and calls . Mic dint work even when i swapped proper libs for it and mixerpatch from klte's los16 build. fingerprint , backlight . only those 3 issues but in my porting days on mediatek soc i had a feeling it might have to do with file_context.bin (maybe under different name for qualcomm devices but that is just a headache and danm near impossible to mess with so i 1- dont have enough data to even attempt to tackle such an issue and way too much work so i stopped . i guess i got excited how the group was getting together just to enjoy a Pie rom . for the time being.

p.s I appreciate so much the hard-ass work you do for the S5 community , wish I could provide more help to you , i mean your brain must be on overdrive like 24/7 .
I don't mean to kill ideas, but most productive is to send code changes up, even half-baked ones, and iterate on those. The note above about pthreads is interesting; I thought I tried setting the sdk api back to L for rild (yes, our ril blobs are L on purpose), but it could be rmt_storage, qmuxd, or something else that is getting slapped. Or even not-quite backwards compatible changes in bionic that need to be properly guarded by the sdk check (we've found one of those already)

And FWIW, there are at least 4 families of devices that will be broken free when this squashed.

    @haggertk
normally i would not tag you but i just assumed that this might help in some way regarding ril being broken .

Also in our telegram group we got ril working (somewhat ) using hlte's ramdisk ( dirty way of getting it done by porting the hlte rom and ramdisk but to many things broken so it was fun while it lasted so that little project got canceled the next day lol )
I know how it was originally done, it is just 100% wrong. It uses bacon ril and qmi blobs. One should never use another device's stack like that unless you are ready for a host of problems (especially with Samsung radios). Not to mention that it will only kind of work on single-sim GSM-only service.

When will LineageOS 16 be OFFICIALLY released?

Nope, I'm not meaning unofficial ports

LineageOS official website seems broken when we need more "info" about it. It lacks info.

    BLUF: No ETA.

Unusually, coming out of the shadows for a non-technical thing, maybe because this is an answer that one of the Directors should be giving...

When it is ready. Meaning, when we get the features merged or at least provide for an upgrade experience that does not cause everything to blow up (yes, dirty upgrades between versions is supported and one of our internal requirements). It is event driven, not time driven.
