Android 9 have a lot of under the hood improvements so yes this update is very important.
Battery life is not impressive with latest rom, I only have about 15 after I arrive from work before it was atleast 30% which is a big difference, the difference is that as soon as I get home I cant lay down in couch using the mobile I have to put it into the charger then use my computer instead while the damn phone charge. I would rather come home lay in couch use the phone until 15% then go prepare something to eat while charge or go take a shower and charge and come to use it again. Luckily the charge speed is kind of fast... but its ****ing typical that the latest update was bad on battery life and it also happens to be an update with a big update interval, all before was pretty much an update every third week, so right now I am stuck with this **** rom until next update. Its bad battery life was really good before so I know the potential of the device.
I appreciate the nice gesture of Vivo to deliver this christmas gift to us, in some way they did keep up to their promise to give us PIE in Q4.
But as many people have pointing out, when there is no fall back rom to the beta it does not seem very tempting especially since there is aboslutely no feedback so far how well or bad it is working in this writing moment.
As I said I’m still on 1.20.5 software version and have very solid battery life.
Fingerprints sensor works as well very reliable and accurate.
So I don’t find real reason to upgrade without visual changes and improvements with new features.
Actually Android Pie doesn’t not bring itself any kind real life improvements.
It bring a so call AI adaptive battery management and adaptive brightness manager and learning your typical daily usage of the phone and adopting of how manage app behavior but that’s a hit or miss feature.
On the other hand Android Pie removes some feature had with Oreo.
1.Substratum themes no more works unless you are root only.
2.They’ve removed battery saver mode at location so you will use GPS all time for location app activity and that meaning increase battery usage.
Battery saver mode at location was key feature elements and option had Android users many years now.
3.Call recording also was removed from Android Pie and you will need root access to be working.
Only way to work is if OEM nativity support it.
Vivo Nex Chinese version will not have that issues since implemented natively but all smartphone outside China will loose that feature unless they have root access.
Don’t forget that call recording it’s illegal to many European or around the world country(except China) so Google decided to remove that option with Pie.
I’ve worked 10 days OnePlus 6T 1.5 month ego and saw all that negative with Android Pie in daily usage(I didn’t unlocked boot loader neither root access as when purchased it didn’t exist official TWRP-now it has)
So to me Android Pie to my usage it brings more negative than positive.
