This is the promise HTC made us somewhere last summer/fall. This info was leaked on several unofficial websites, and later HTC launched an official promo webpage for LP update which clearly stated the models that will receive it (including M4), and the fact that the release will be made within 90 days max after HTC received Android L source code from Google.

Today I have discovered that HTC has officially announced on Twitter that M4 will not be getting Android 5 at all: https://twitter.com/htc/status/594775515183054848

As we all know, a promise engenders an obligation, and I have just contacted HTC Netherlands about this issue. They stated they have never promised an Android 5 update for M4 and don't know of any promo website page that I'm talking about. They said I have probably read it on some unofficial website not related to HTC.
I told them I'm pretty sure the LP-update-promo-webpage was hosted somewhere on htc.com domain which makes it official, but they said they give me "100% guarantee this was not the case" and that I may feel free "to send them a link or a screenshot for further investigation".

I feel HTC is being fraudulent and I want to make a case out of this. And this is exactly where I need community help. I've spent last couple hours in vain searching for the promo webpage I described above. If anybody has a link / screenshot / history entry / forum post / web.archive.org link / whatever info, please share it here.
The webpage I'm talking about had black background and huge white fonts (probably green fonts too) and had a beautiful modern design, somewhat 'mysteriously' looking. It clearly stated that several phones will be getting LP update within 90 days, among which M7 and M4. M8 was not out yet at that time — if I remember correctly, this webpage was up somewhere around summer/fall 2014.

Thanks for any help.

I already contacted HTC Germany for answering following questions:

1. An update was promised and there was an official announcement. So why there will be no update (even for Mini2, which is ~1 year old)?
2. HTC stated the hardware would be outdated. So what exactly doesn't work on their so called "high-end-models" (we pay a lot for)? And why other manufacturers are able to update Lollipop on even older devices/less powerful hardware?

I got no answer (who wonders?!), but there're only a few answers possible:

1. There's really a hardware problem - if so, HTC, please tell us the details!
2. Mini3 is comming soon (remember: Outdated hardware, so the new Mini3 will have fantastic, never-seen-before specs!).
3. HTC is still not interested anymore.

Choose for yourself, I guess it's point 3! With support you don't earn money, also they had lots of trouble with the small cracks and unfortunately some people really use their smartphone longer than ~1 year!

I'm really disappointed and for my next phone I'll have to think twice: Which model and also which manufacturer?!

Well, I found an archive link: http://web.archive.org/web/20140714072836/http://www.htc.com/us/advantage/
As you can see in the screenshot:

The One mini will reveal software updates.
If you scroll down, you will see that we should get software updates for 2 years.

Now, for the February backup, ( http://web.archive.org/web/20150226013457/http://www.htc.com/us/advantage/ )
They still promised us software updates, but they removed the "2 years part"

Well, it looks like I'm going to not upgrade to an M10 next year but probably to another phone.

I think they wanted to upgrade this device, but once lollipop was released reality set in. I'm not a developer, but I think all of the re-draws and lag that we experienced with the 4.4.4 ports on this device would be crazy-bad on lollipop.
