Some people want to stick with stock apps and stock look. That's pretty much it.

Personally, I don't SMS much as I use instant messengers but it's just nice to have.
I don't understand why people get upset about Android Messages app getting dark mode, then losing it, then getting it again (in a staged rollout), when there are so many other messaging apps with native dark/theme support, not to mention other features not available in Android Messages....

I've tried other messaging apps and they don't play well with my gear s3, Android messages have been the best so far

Btw, to those, like me, who are disappointed by the widget removal, checkout all messages widget. I think it's WAY better actually. And if you pay you can also see what's app, Facebook IM, and a couple others.

I understand the frustration with losing the custom color text bubbles, but gaining the RCS read receipts instead (dark blue bubble for RCS, light blue for SMS/MMS) is a worthy trade-off in my eyes.
