Android Messages Dark Mode

Same issue here, playstore doesn't have an update option and force closing does nothing. Version is 3.4.048

Google Android Messages apk mirror. Install the latest version. Force close in settings, open app, go to settings, enable dark mode.

Some people want to stick with stock apps and stock look. That's pretty much it.

Personally, I don't SMS much as I use instant messengers but it's just nice to have.

I don't understand why people get upset about Android Messages app getting dark mode, then losing it, then getting it again (in a staged rollout), when there are so many other messaging apps with native dark/theme support, not to mention other features not available in Android Messages....

Force close AM in settings, then open it again. You should see the new version. Then in settings you should see enable dark mode.

I've tried other messaging apps and they don't play well with my gear s3, Android messages have been the best so far

Nice find!! I have been waiting for the dark mode and just happened to jump on xda to see what's new. And Bam, got dark mode messanger. Love it!!

I'm using the latest update from apkmirror and dark mode works fine. I just followed the instructions from the other post.

Should update through Play Store. I sideloaded the new Google Fit to my phone and Wear OS watch and both got updates through the Play Store to a newer version the following day.

Btw, to those, like me, who are disappointed by the widget removal, checkout all messages widget. I think it's WAY better actually. And if you pay you can also see what's app, Facebook IM, and a couple others.

I understand the frustration with losing the custom color text bubbles, but gaining the RCS read receipts instead (dark blue bubble for RCS, light blue for SMS/MMS) is a worthy trade-off in my eyes.

yea. I hope all the white is just a means to an end, for system wide dark mode.
