They been pretty mediocre as a far as the updates I had the LG G3 and it received quicker updates than the V20 has, and the fact its gotten to the point where Samsung is updating quicker is pretty sad. I'm glad its finally getting Oreo though, only took them almost a year but hey.
I noticed that too, they were quicker to update on their previous phones but now meh!

My guess could be that they are very busy releasing new variants of V30 and now the upcoming G7.

Dear elite fellow users of LG V20 H990DS, enclosed herewith please find below E-mail communication from LG Product Security Update Team regarding regular on time monthly security patches update & Oreo Upgrade for our LG V20 devices around the globe.

Dear Deepak Talwalker,,

This is a staff of LG Product Security Response Team(LG PSRT).
Next security patch will be included in Oreo update.
It means that your V20 H990DS will get the Oreo update soon.
Additionally, the Oreo update is scheduled at the end of May.
Thank you for your patience.

Regards,
PSRT

To above their E-mail again I replied back as follows:

Dear Sir/ Madam,

Thank you for your E-mail. I feel dejected by the same. LG PSRT is either requested to prepone Oreo 8.1,x upgrade by end of March 18 or if possible instead of scheduling stale Oreo 8.1.x for a flagship like LG V20 H990DS may directly jump to Android ‘P’ as soon as it is released. Such huge time lag of 09 months from 21st Aug17 to end of May 18 for the Oreo upgrade is not at all appreciated for a flagship like LG V20 H990DS.
Meanwhile if soonest possible, please arrange for a quick Kernel update for LG V20 H990DS so that undue/undesired/ unsolicited battery drain will be arrested or reduced considerably thereby improving Battery Back up & Screen On Time for the world wide LG V20 devices. Also LG V20 H990DS users will get rid of possessing & carrying nasty power banks all the time & happily wait for Android ‘P’ if a quick proper Kernel update is released for their LG V20 device to improve battery back up & Screen On Time instead of Android Oreo 8.1.x for their LG V20 H990DS.

Thanking you,

Yours truly,

Deepak Talwalker
they really take their time with this update, at least they're doing it
I wish they will also upgrade v20 to android P later on shorter time rather than make us wait for a whole full year like this

I wouldn't bet on getting Android P, especially after this long update process. It looks like the V20 is EOL.
It's sad cuz it's a unique device but i wouldn't get my hopes too high. It should get two major updates, oreo is the first one, but it looks like the v20 is already one of the last devices on the lg update list.
The security update process is also crap.

Btw, i'm still on 6. november security patch (SEA) H990DS. I'm quite pissed because some H990DS are already on january patch or beyond. Seems like they update only some regions with some security patches. Why? I mean they've already done the monthly patch but don't push it out for everyone. This is bullshit. They should release their update for every region at the same week, the models can't be that different. And they shouldn't wait for lazy and silly providers and should update free versions as soon as the update is ready. I havn't got an update since six months on a currently supported flagship model. I thinks it's embarrassing.

Spectre/meltdown/security problems aren't patched since too long, maybe i'll get an iphone next. It's expensive, but they care at least a little bit about their devices... The android update policy is just an offense for customers. Android manufacturer charge nearly as much as Apple but they deliver no competitive software support...

Always the same "bullshit" with my Android Phones (before HTC Desire HD, Samsung S4, always with replacable batteries). Apple is far much quicker and offers updates 3-5 years, if I'm right? So, next phone will be perhaps a Xiaomi, I suppose they are more reliable on updates. So, dear LG (a multinational company, I'm just coming back from Seoul..) go ahead for our baby LG V20 DS :). Thanks..

Curious to see if they deliver on the 'end of may' promise, only one day left.

Plus, the sun sets sooner in the East that is Korea..

They said, "schedule", so I guess it was tentative or a goal of end of May. I guess they're behind schedule, hopefully they do it right, and hopefully we'll get a polished version of Oreo 8.1 .. one can hope, :p

Checked for updates and wow, there was an update. Got excited thinking Oreo, phone reboots, May 1st security update. Still pleased to see my H918 getting security updates.

My LG-US996 did not get any new updates this month. I'm using my V20 right now... I can't help but think... how much potential this phone has, how it has great hardware, and a decent design, I like the screen size, the resolution, the user replaceable battery, the expandable memory, the 3.5mm(sad to even mention that it's a "feature" these days), the IR blaster, the dual cameras.... the hardware is great, even for today's standards... it's an amazing phone, hardware wise... but software wise, seemingly for all major Android phone makers (Samsung, Sony, LG, etc.)... they just suck at software updates, they're literally dragging their feet to make it happen... they seem to lack the know how or something.... lost in translation... if only there was a more seamless process for this, to make it more efficient and secure.... I know that's why Google came out with their "own" phones( I say "own" because they contract a hardware maker, even LG was used).... but still... it's ridiculous... for how long these premium hardware makers take to release new updates... I'm just venting out, lol... and I still like my V20, nothing like it out there, hardware wise, it's the last of the mohicans, great phone... just behind on software support and updates..officially at least...

I suppose all want to sell new phones... With an update for our V20 we can use it two more years easily. KR from Munich, Germany
