I tried every listed here and kept having the issue. What solved it for me was changing back to 640dpi and disabling root. Hope that helps someone else.

I am on verizon, with xsposed, and it worked for me just by disabling su. Adding the card and then re-enabling su. I am on stock dpi at the moment as well.

Not on the G4 (G3 for me), but having the same problems as others. Have tried with Root Cloak and No Device Check on Xposed. Fail. Tried disabling for with Super Su. Tried reverting to Stock Dpi and disabling root. Fail.

Whenever I try and add I card, play services crashes. I've tried reverting to an older version by uninstalling updates but the option is greyed out, and I can't install a different version because of an install error. Any ideas on what's going on?
All you need to do to uninstall updates for Google Play Services is to disable Android Device Manager under Security -> Phone Administrator in Settings. Make sure it is disabled as it can take several tries.

Root cloak and hide my root will work only if you don't have xposed installed. For some reason xposed seems to be breaking android pay. At least that's my experience. Can anyone confirm this?
Root Cloak is a module for xposed and can be used only with Xposed installed. What version of Root Cloak are you using and what version of Xposed? Root Cloak v1.51 known as RootCloak2 is the current one as v1.4x is no longer used.

On a stock rooted VS986 Verizon Wireless running 10b with Xposed v74, Root Cloak 1.51, Google Play Services 8.1.15-240, SuperSU v2.46, all I had to do was disable SuperUser in SuperSU to add a card as that screen will pop up whether it's the first card or not as it will have the problem when adding a card.

I can confirm that the above process works on a rooted VS986 running Xposed v74. I successfully added my USBank card after installing Root Cloak 1.51, and after going into the settings of SuperSU and deselecting "Enable Superuser". All is good now, so thank you very much for providing the instructions and saving me from removing root!

However, I have not been successful in actually using Android Pay to make a purchase. I get error message to the effect "Can't use card xxxx at this time. Choose another card".
Has anyone been able to successfully make an actual purchase with Android Pay on rooted, xposed, custom rom, verizon variant?

this is concerning. i'll have to try it later today. i just installed pay, and used wallet successfully yesterday. if pay really does not work with root enabled, then i'm going to have to downgrade back to wallet. **** that

I had Android Pay working, until an update to it yesterday or the day before. Then I started getting the same message as you.

For everyone having issues, I finally got it to work. I uninstalled any version of pay i had previously downloaded, changed the dpi back to stock (640), rebooted phone, disabled Supersu, downloaded official pay from play store, and it let me add a card! I did this all with xposed installed.

And just enable Supersu after you add a card.

I have the same versions installed as you but I still can't get it to work. I haven't tried setting my dpi back to 640 yet. I also have SE Linux set to permissive. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.

I didn't do anything with the dpi and didn't do anything with SE Linux either.

A question on Android Pay, I know one can select a default card if there are multiple cards but how does one pick which card to pay with or does one pick by setting whatever card one wants to use as the default?

I can confirm that an American Express card and another grandfathered unsupported Mastercard can be added to Android Pay using these steps.:

Uncheck (disable) Enable Superuser in SuperSU
Boot into recovery and flash xposed-uninstaller-20150831-arm.zip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811)
Add card in Android Pay app
Check (enable) Enable Superuser in SuperSU
Boot into recovery and flash xposed-v74-sdk21-arm.zip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811)

I was finally able to get Android Pay to work.
Here is the sequence of steps that worked for me:
Google Play Service 8.1.15 (2250156-230) Manage space --> Clear All Data
Uncheck (disable) Enable Superuser in SuperSU
Boot into recovery and flash xposed-uninstaller-20150831-arm.zip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811)
Reboot
Add card in Android Pay app
Check (enable) Enable Superuser in SuperSU

I DID NOT reflash Xposed after adding the AE ccard and I was successful in making a purchase at Walgreens. Next I am going to reflash Xposed and see if I can make a purchase at the same place or if I will get the error message again.

Let us know if you're able to make a purchase with Xposed. If I have to choose between Xposed and Android pay, then it's not much of a choice. Xposed benefits > Android pay.

Reinstalled Xposed, went back to same store and used the same card in Android Pay to make a purchase. confirmed - FAILED.

Just a thought as I was trying to uninstall updates for Google Play Services earlier today, it appears that one has to disable Android Device Manager and Android Pay as Device Administrators under Security Settings before the uninstall updates for Google Play Services is available so perhaps for rooted devices, Google Play Services needs to be added to the list for root hiding apps like root cloak.

Also, saw this:

I was able to add cards to Android pay by using hide my root but when I try to tap and pay my Amex card I added does work. Anybody experience this?

I have androidpay installed and working. But I can't stand having to put in a pass code to unlock my device, so I want to remove and go back to swipe to unlock, no security. So I uninstalled the app, unchecked device administrator prior to this but it does not go away! The apk is uninstalled but it keeps telling me to set as admin. When I go to lock screen settings, I do not have the option to set as swipe to unlock.
What else could I do short of a reset? Anyone have this issue?
