[Android][UNSAMLOCK] Bootloader Unlock for Samsung US/Canada Devices

Search This thread
Just wanted to post my public thanks to @afaneh92! I now have a fully unlocked former Verizon S9+, running the TWRP in recovery and the latest LineageOS v19 GSI. He was very helpful (and patient) with direct support (via Telegram), walking me through all the steps necessary to get where I wanted to be with this phone.

Note: I am not using this as mobile device - just Wi-Fi only - but still so worth it.

I bought a new couple of G973U motherboards from ebay and surprisingly they both came with Jun 2022 firmware preinstalled

I don't use Telegram. Is there another way of connecting with you? I would like to inquire about unlocking bootloader for a Note 10 and Note 20.

This should be a free service. This site has helped me over the years with many modifications, rooting, themes, etc. I have a EE degree , but focused on EVs and applied engineering. So I believe anything is possible if someone has spent enough time on it. Charging for a service is just greedy. I understand it takes time and effort creating and testing these features, but that surely has a enjoyment standpoint included with it.

Go get a degree and develop embedded controls sw if you want to get paid!

So your developing a way for us to unlock the bootloader on US variants?

I don't have an engineering degree, so can only imagine the time, effort, and money involved it takes to make any of these items and guides available for those of us who just want help extending the life of devices that are no longer supported by the manufacturer. What's worse is that most of these older devices can run the newer operating systems just fine, but with a locked bootloader preventing that process from happening, folks who are concerned about device security (not necessarily privacy) are left with running an insecure OS or buying a new device.

As someone who doesn't like paying much for anything, I do appreciate those who offer a service for a reasonable price. The cost of breathing life into a device that was collecting dust on a shelf for $55 was worth it to me. If it was any more, then I simply would not have engaged the services to generate a unique unlock token specific for my device (getting the personalized tech support to help make sure the whole process worked right was a welcome added bonus).

So when he PAYS for the service he has to use... he must then give it away free?

Did you even read WHY it's a paid service?
So if you want it to be free, by all means pay for all our codes and give them to all of us.

Yes you get paid on everything even water and food so just calm down and pay your everything in life taxes or go wild fishing or hunting on your barefoot

Why do you need a job if everything is free!
Because it's not. Not even an education. Think about it, if a undergraduate degree was free. The government would make more money in taxes from these hard working educated people.
Now I have student loans to deal with.
No silver spoon here. Mommy and daddy didn't pay for my degree. I do...
Nothing personal, but I've seen so many talented sw developers who have incredible ideas and should be able to work around anything.

I recently stumbled across this and I'm interested in giving it a shot. Unfortunately, when I pursued this in the past, I was limited by my bootloader version.

Is is still considered "too difficult" to downgrade the bootloader for root purposes?

The phone in question is an S20 (SM-G981U) with One UI 4.1 and Android 12. Originally shipped with Android 10, AT&T phone originally (now carrier unlocked).

Since you are on android 12 then its v2 or 3 bootloader so there is no way to unlock currently.

Bummer...

Thank you for getting back to me. Hopefully I can find an S20 (snapdragon) that is already rooted or at least rootable.

I love the phone, but I loathe what Google did when they took away the "old" music player in favor of YouTube and many of the other changes. I want full control over the apps.
