i dont know that you can port the recording to 2.2, i have not seen any other 2.2 with recording. AFAIK, thats a specific 2.2.1 feature on samsung. my guess is that it would be in dialer and phone apks...but i havent dug into it to look

UM Kernel and Samsung Car Dock

Hi, sorry if this question has been answered but I've read about an hours worth of threads and did not find anything on this. Search says temporarily down.. Does the UM kernel that came with Andromeda 3 support voice/sound through the car dock? I tried using Xcal's sound redirector but it's a no-go. Please advise?

I'm not having that particular problem but I am having issues with stability. Sometimes the camera will force close, the phone locks up or yesterday, the drop down notification window wouldn't come down.

I've resorted to a daily reboot to maintain stability. I always had to do that with my iPhone so I'm used to it...

Edit: seems its just the ring notification and media volume effected. System sounds seem fine. Odd

I've been running A3 problem free since it came out, so I have to think these recent problems others are having are related to something else. A program that was installed or some setting mistakenly made wrong...I don't know, but A3 is as stable as it gets in terms of custom ROMs.

go download Audio Manager from the market and verify the volume settings with it.
thanks a bunch, that worked instantly, it showed 7/7 vol then i turned it down in audio manager then back up to 7/7 and it was as loud as it should have been.
Either that or it just randomly started working again,

Just Curious

Two Questions:
1. Anyone considering trying one of the newer GB ROMS? If so, which one and why?

2. How hard will it be to flash back to Andromeda3? (if the grass is not greener on the other side)

I really have no complaints about Andromeda3, it has been the best ROM I have flashed, I am just sort of curious about GB (and sort of miss flashing).

Thanks in advance.

^^ That is not an issue which I have seen yet with Andromeda. it's likely a setting was restored from a previous ROM, or a piece of software you are running in the background.
Well problem came back. it cant be another ROM setting, this was a fresh install reset to stock via odin one click after a master clear. app wise i dont think im running anything crazy

Not even tempted to try. I read some of the GB threads and it seems there are still some issues with things not working or not working right. And the process to go back is a pain. Nope, A3 is working great for me and I see nothing in GB that I absolutely must have.

I have read much of the thread about Continuum, as well as most of them about Mosaic and Mikey's GR-9, 10, 11...Many of the problems see to be the result of inexperience/impatience. That is why I am gathering information before deciding to flash.

I have been very pleased with Andromeda3 and have a hard time thinking how much better another ROM can be (considering how I use my phone), but that is why I am asking the questions now.

Thanks for your comments.

It all comes down to what you want. For me, i've been tempted to try GB but then look at the issues some have with it. I don't trust half the guys around here when they say it runs perfectly fine and has no issues. Those same guys were all up in the CM7 threads saying the same thing and we all know the issues CM7 has. I use my phone everyday and don't want to have to worry about issues, however minor they may be. For you, it may be different. I'm waiting for someone to put out an OFFICIAL GB rom since I don't want to beta test something as potentially harmful to my phone as some of these betas are. I'd give it a few more weeks to let the flash happy guys test run them and work out the kinks. Hopefully it will be a safer and more enjoyable experience by then. On a side note, it would be GREAT if the Armani Captivate got some GB goodness. I'd love to see what Adam and the crew could do with a proper build. :D

Hey Adam, I have a question about call recording. I want to port call recording from another rom over to Andromeda 3, but I'm a lost as to what is needed or what files I need to mod. I have a 2.2 froyo donor rom JS8 build. I have dug into it and extracted the dialer and phone apk's. I dont know if I need any xml or jar files to go with it. The record on the fly option I really liked and want to retain this. There is a call recording app someone made (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=967297) but it records all incoming and outgoing calls and after the call the option to delete pops up. I would like to have control of which calls I record so this is why I want to add this feature from the donor rom to Andromeda.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Samsung Captivate running Andromeda V3 - Ursa Minor 2 kernel - JVK modem
(VALLE-MOD)HoneyComb Theme Andromeda v5
I used crysis revolution on andromeda and the call recording waorked great. Fyi

Tempted a little. Not really considering it, at least not yet. Andromeda is completely stable for me. Someone said give it a couple of weeks; I say give it a couple of months.

2. How hard will it be to flash back to Andromeda3? (if the grass is not greener on the other side)

To install one of the JVB roms requires flashing 2.3.3 bootloaders. To return to Andromeda requires flashing 2.1 or 2.2 bootloaders. It is now known that it is fairly safe to do this if you understand the process and don't do something stupid. (Flashing bootloaders is never really safe, but we've been doing it right along with Oden 3 One Click.) It is essential to flash both bootloaders together going each way. To return to Andromeda from 2.3.3, flash back to JF6 with Oden 3 One Click, then install Andromeda 3, then restore your nandroid backup. That's not so hard.

Hard bricking is possible going back and forth if you flash only one bootloader and wind up with mismatched bootloaders. This would result in a true hard brick. The 3 button fix package flashes only sbl.bin but not boot.bin. Three people reported bricking their phones in the Continuum thread from flashing back to stock with the three button fix. As I understand it, some roms, for example Cognition, also include a boot loader in the flash and can result in a hard brick.

Thanks to Adam, axis01, cand Creepyncrawly

I appreciate your thoughtful replies. I believe you have talked me down. I guess I will just have to be content to tinker around the edges for awhile longer.:D
