Andromeda Q&A

After flashing my Captivate to Andromeda, I get really terrible reception. Really, just horrible. I can't even describe how bad.
I will get no service in places I used to get great or good reception, and I will even get no service in my own home, where I have a microcell set up to specifically prevent that.

I'm also getting really bad WiFi signal. Anything short of what a cable could cover drops me to the lowest signal level and has loading times to reflect it.

I've tried flashing the modem to the other two on the Team Komin site. One appeared to do nothing, and the other one made my system highly unstable and caused all sorts of things to force quit. Do I just need to try a different modem? If so, what do people recommend?

^^ You should clear all data from your phone. It's likely that the problem is caused by pre-existing data. Also, when you do a Titanium restore, select the individual packages and restore them, rather then bulk-restoring everything. I've found that I receive better reception and faster internet from the Andromeda build as compared to stock and Cappy Ginger-Clone

Peak / Non-peak email synch missing in 1.2

I've been very happy with your ROM, been on 1.0, 1.1, 1.2. I thought I remembered on earlier versions that the native email app had the ability to define peak and non-peak synch times. I don't see that ability in 1.2. Is there a different .apk that I could load to get this functionality?

Update: The email.apk in 1.0 is 1230 KB, in 1.2 1223 KB. When I went to 1.1 I used the 1.0 -> 1.1 upgrade which did not overwrite the email.apk. When I went to 1.2 I used the 1.2 Final load which did overwrite the email.apk.

Can I sideload the 1.0 email.apk onto my cappy running 1.2?

I just reverted my email.apk to the 1.0 version. I was not able to find this functionality. If you would, please let us know a source of this app. It was likely in another rom you tried.

that functionality is in stock jf6/jh7. there was an apk floating around here that had it as well, but its pretty rare. the stock mail client on 2.2 sucks in general.

Must of been on Cog3.04, will verify on my wife's phone when she gets home. The Cog3.04 email apk is attached.

Update: Checked and it's not on the Cog3.04 phone either. Then I thought maybe it was on the Tab email app that you can load using SGS tools. Loaded it up, but not there either. I have only loaded Andromeda and Cog Roms, so am really confused, but I know I saw it. I am running totally Adromeda 1.2 (Rom, Modem, Kernel). I did have JK4 modem and Speedmod kernel on 1.1 before. Would one of them provided a different email client?

If there are no easy answers don't spend a lot of effort on it. It would be nice to not poll my work email so often after hours though.

Update 2: Installed Cog4 and the option is there in the native email app. Options for "Out of Office Settings" and "Sync Schedule" are present.

Pandora

Is anyone having issues with Pandora's sound cutting out?

An issue with the new Email.apk posted, is there a way to delay it requiring me to enter my PIN when the screen locks?

I just tested and I have no problems with pandora.

I'd reflash.... btw.. On my benchmarks, Our kernel last stable kernel came up with better ratings then the speedmod kernel.

Our nightly builds do not have voodoo sound or backlight notification in them and the kernel speed has been reduced. We're working on it and it should be up-to-par this weekend. The last stable build is excellent though.

^^ Please describe the problem in more detail. Do you have a screen lock set up? Do you have a corperate account?

When I turn off my phone and turn it on, I have it set up to require a combination to unlock it. This is an option under settings/location and security. This is the only security validation my phone requires. My email does not require a pin. It has a password.

I'm not following you on this.

I have a corporate email account setup, it requires either a PIN or password for security on the phone. When my screen shuts off, and I turn it back on, it locks immediately.

On the stock Captivate, it didn't lock for a while with the screen off.

^^ One of the benefeits of Andromeda is additional security. You'll notice that you also have the ability to make your phone text message to 5 of your contacts if someone takes your phone and inserts their SIM card. I've personally gone through and monitored the data streams in and out of the phone to verify that nothing is comming in or going out that would not be considered "normal". The security on this build is what I like about it.

This ROM is different then AT&T's ROM. You will find variations like that. Unfortunately, I cannot test corporate email. I use IMAP and POP3 only. However, you are more then welcome to build a custom ROM. We have 1click build instructions on teamkomin.googlecode.com. You are likely looking at replacing the settings.apk, and the email.apk. I cannot be sure of this though because, again, I do not have a corporate email account to test.

You could increase your display time, or ask your corporate provider to adjust settings to something a bit less stringent.

Thanks for all of the info u posted about Andromeda. I saw a post about it last night and was curious as to what it exactly was. I am currently running Firmware 2.2 Baseband Version UCJI6 Kernel 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#1 Build FROYO.UCJI6. I updated to that with odin3 so my phone hasnt been rooted either. Obviously I want to upgrade my phone to a more recent version of 2.2 but am not sure how to go about it. I tried to update the kb1 that was just released but kies mini will not read my phone. Can anyone please help me. Id really appreciate it. Thanks!
