Andromeda Q&A

Hey guys, sorry to ask a question if the answer is out there, i searched and came to a thread with over 105 pages and after searching through 50 of them and finding nothing i've decided to break down and noob it out.

After having hundreds of problems of my own being a noob and trying to flash and rom and everything unless, I finally have Andromeda3 on my Captivate, now this is the 2nd time i've had andromeda3 on, I'm having a very serious "freezing" issue. At first i thought that it was because of the app "setcpu" that i had overclocked it too high and i heard that it could cause freezing, it got the the point where the phone would not stay on long enough for me to even clear the app data and delete the app . . .

Then later on i had used odin 1 click to restore my rogers captivate, which put at&t on my phone :S lol, and i got andromeda3 back on my phone, and it seemed at first that it was running perfectably, and after twinkering with a few settings and customizing it to my liking, It's begun to freeze again, I'm just wondering if i have done something that is a known issue that causes this.

Please help, i love andromeda3 so far and would not enjoy having to flash and go stock again.
The Ursa Minor kernel supplied with Andromeda3 doesn't support OC/UV this could be the source of the problem. The kernel and ROM work well as a pair but if you want OC/UV you could try the Onix kernel

Battery Charge Issue

So ever since I've been on Andromeda, my battery has been ceasing to charge before it gets to 100%. I've calibrated the battery many times now, and I even just reflashed the ROM and kernel with all the latest updates just the other night. I reflashed with a full battery, calibrated it as soon as flashing was complete, and that charge lasted me 35 hours. I was hoping the issue would resolve itself at some point, but it just happened right now as my battery was approaching 98%, it suddenly jumped to 100% and stopped charging. As soon as I unplugged it, it fell back down to 98%.

One thing I have noticed is that once I plug it back in to get that extra 2%, as soon as the screen times out and the phone locks, it thinks its fully charged and it skips to 100%. But if I turn the screen timeout off and leave the screen on, it will continue on slowly until it truly reaches 100%. I'm using the Rotary lockscreen if that matters (as it shows the battery percent when charging and shows "Charged" when fully charged).

Does anyone else experience this problem, even after battery calibration?

I'm on Perception 9. I would like to try Andromeda3. Do I need to flash back to default ROM first before putting the new one in using 'I897UCJF6-final-OCD-REV0.rar'?
Is it not possible to flash Andromeda3 over Perception 9? Should I be avoiding this?

I already have CWM, so after restoring to 2.1 stock, do I need to install it again?

Ok so I've been on andromeda since the beginning, and it's the best! I have been experiencing some really odd things lately and wonder what I should do to combat them.

On occasion the phone will sort of "trip" out with the home key. It's like some ghost is mashing the home key on the phone causing my phone to wig out. It vibrates a ton, cause I have haptive feedback on, and the notification pull down goes up and down, up and down. I've flashed other roms in the past, but never a gb rom, so I've never touched my boot loaders. (should be noted this happens mostly when my phone comes back from a sleep state, our pressing the power button)

The wifi bug where it errors out when turning on still persists.

What actions should I take?

Thanks!

i have heard that random home/menu/back/search key button mashing is caused by moisture under the glass. turn it off, wrap it in a paper towel and stick it in a ziplock bag or tupperware bowl of rice. try that for a night and see if that helps

dont know what to say about the wifi bug, it is a problem that persists across nearly every 2.2 rom, stock or otherwise

Not sure if you guys have tried "Fix My Wifi" from the market, I have used this on all 2.2 roms I have run, and it really helps out, from what i can tell it resets the wifi if a point is detected but the phone hasn't connected to it for whatever reason. I had issues with the wifi not reconnecting with this rom just like the other 2.2 roms, and after installing the app it connects with no problems.

Hope this may help someone. :)

Hey,

I recently re-installed Andromeda after trying gb roms. Andromeda was my first custom ROM that I installed on my cappy. I installed other ROMs because of major freezes and shutdowns.

Now Im experiencing those freezes again and the power button (menu) is freezing/lagging a lot.

Im currently on Andromeda 3 with the UrsaMinor 1 kernel

Could please somebody give me some help/advice?

Number Pad Skin

Hi guys, pretty much a noob, the Andrromeda 2 was my first and only rom a few months ago, today I moved up to 3 which I like and am really greatfull for the improved earpiece volume, great job to all. But I really miss the elegant dial pad on And2 , is there any way to change just the dial pad?
Also wondering if there will be a 2.3 for this phone . Thanks for providing the tools and support for a phone so good I do not lust for any of the new offerings

Boot Animation with Andromeda3?

Hey people,
I am new to this site and new to the whole custom roms. I have the Andromeda3 rom and would like to change my boot screen and sound. Right now it starts with the white AT&T logo and then goes to the UrsaMinor screen then to the galaxy default animation with Andromeda3. I would like to change all of this or whatever I can.. If you could please help me out with a good walk through or a link to a vid that I can watch it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Chris :D

Have you checked out some of the themes available? Try Androdena tek galaxy mark 2. I think its the same dialer.

You can also mix and match at the UOT Kitchen.

HI, i am new to the forums and i imagine this question has been asked before. I have read/watched various ways how-to vids to properly load a custom rom / kernal.. and with no success thus far.
Problem; getting into my "Download Mode Screen" on my captivate to continue loading your Andromeda ROM to my i896 (Canadian GS Captivate).
Repeatedly watch your how-to video and still nothing i held down UP - DOWN and PWR buttons together and all i see it doing is cycling the battery charge screen over and over. I let go of the buttons and i get into recovery 3e mode..

I am probably retarded and i am missing a step .. I have loaded the stock version 2.2 Froyo firmware via Kies b4 successfully before.

continuing on my quest i managed to Root my phone using SuperOneClick. and i have also downloaded RyanZA One Click Lag Fix ver. 2.3.0. I have also installed Rom Manager via android market.

After being rooted, installed one click lagfix with no real significant actual fix to the phone its still loads slow etc.. mainly why i started messing with all the rooting and roms and would like to see if loading the Andromeda ROM will fix this slow @ss phone :).

Current state:
Froyo 2.2 (Canadian ver. Captivate) Rooted with SuperOneClick.
Installed One Click Lag Fix (RyanZA 2.30)
Installed Rom Manager 4.3.3.0

whats the best and easiest way to finish the ROM load to my captivate as its current state ? Am I able to load the ROM via Rom Manager Recovery ?

sorry for the wall of text. Thanks in advance to anyone whom is able to help.

If you get no joy from the above method, follow the method below, which is copied from the sticky thread in this forum.

If for some strange reason you absolutely cannot get the phone into download mode you can try one of two things:

The first method - It will take a few tries to get the timing just right so be patient:
•Unplug your Device
•Pull out the SIM, External SD Card, and Battery
•Plug in the mini-USB Cable back into your phone.
•While holding down BOTH Up/Down Volume Buttons re-insert the battery.
If you get the "grey battery charging" screen. Then you will need to try and re-attempt it as it didn't work. You should get the download screen and be ready to go back to stock.

Build a Jig to force the phone to go into download mode by reading this thread here. (Or buy a jig. This is mainly for phones that have the specific problem of not being able to get into download mode with button combinations.)

Multiple apps force close

Hello,

After reading and reading and watching Adam's install video about 15 times, I was able to flash A3 without any drama. Started on Stock 2.2. I had a few bugs at first (notification bar would pull down slightly, but get stuck at the top) and quite a few(10 or more) of my apps force closed immediately upon trying to open them (one vibrate, wait 5 or so seconds, 3 vibrates and then the message). I flashed the UM2 kernel and that seemed to make the phone run smoother, but the app issue stays. I have reflashed A3 from CWM, but I had the same issues. I have also had the "insufficient storage to update" error for a few apps when trying to update.

For the record, I only restored apps+app data with TiBu, and have tried clearing the data of the individual apps to no success. Completely uninstalling and reinstalling has fixed it, but I'd prefer to not do that to all of them.

Does this call for an Odin 1-click and reflash or am I missing something?

Thank you for the great ROM and support.

-Drew

I have had the same problem with some of my apps also, adobie air, facebook, and a few others when trying to update I get the storage error!! Makes no sense to me I have well over 5 gigs internal and over 6 on the external. I have tried to clear data before update and that does nothing! I can delete the app and install just fine but like you said that's a pain to do everytime!
