Turns out the g4 play already had an unlocked bootloader and twrp installed. Flashed lineage, gapps and the ant zip above. Success again!! Few things bother me about the lineagerom (as opposed to aosp extended or resurrection remix), but at least ant works now.

I wonder what else is missing in those roms (and/or stock) that prevents ant from working.

This is now built into LineageOS source for all Motorola msm8916 phones https://review.lineageos.org/#/c/202042/

If anyone with a Moto Z Play (addison) on LineageOS 14.1 wants to try the same flashable zip from https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75069149&postcount=31, I think it'll work there, too, I just don't own one to test. Please let me know if you have success, because I have a commit all ready to go that would enable it in source for the addison, which could then translate to all the other newer msm8953 phones.

ANy change this might work on Galaxy s7 and s9 models? ANt+ capable. But uses Samsung chips not snapdragon...

I still had rev1 on the phone. Updated a moto g4 play (xt1607) to resurrection remix based on android 8.1.0. Ant+ works!
