right i have the latest orange firmware on my UK hero and it is rooted (su mode)

i want to install the latest generic firmware and lose the orange one which is still a bit slow

what is the exact method for doing this and the safest way, Also will i lose me network settings if so how can i back them up first, I don't have many apps or games or any thing else that i don't have a backup of or can re download from the stores so not worried about losing data just losing network settings

thanks in advance guys and gals

p.s a sticky in this forum with a guide that says summit like use this method to debrand/update if on these networks ect would be good

If you are on the latest Orange firmware (i.e. a 2.73 build) and rooted, there is very little to be gained by installing the generic firmware. Performance is probably going to be identical.

If you want a better performing version of 2.73, you should try Modaco's ROMs.

Dave

Can you boot in to Android System Recovery mode (black background with a green menu) by pressing the 'Home' key whilst powering up the phone? If you can, it's simple to install one of the custom ROMs available.

If you have the Android System Recovery, download the latest Core ROM file from Modaco (current version is 2.7.1). It can be found here http://android.modaco.com/content/h...custom-rom-core-chinese-featuring-wavesecure/

Once the file is downloaded, plug your Hero in to your PC and mount it as a USB drive. Copy the downloaded zip file to the SD Card in your phone (don't unzip it)

Now, disconnect the Hero from the PC and power off the phone.

Hold down the 'Home' button and power on the phone (keep the Home key pressed until you see the recovery menu).

I would advise doing a Wipe data/Factory Reset first of all as this worked best when I moved from the updated UK Orange ROM.

Once the wipe is complete, choose the option that allows you to choose a zip file from your SD Card. On mine it's called 'Apply sdcard:choose zip'. You should then see the zip file that you copied to the SD Card a few minutes ago. Select it and follow the on screen instructions. Once installed, choose the reboot option from the recovery menu, your phone will reboot and will be running the new custom ROM
