While I continue to poke around it appears that 5Ghz can be enabled from a few locations. I'm guessing but I'm finding the same file.

Same file I mentioned above is here too. Also has the backup that was created.
Code:
/cust/special_cust/BTV-W09/hw/usa/system/etc/cfg_btv_wifi_only_hisi.ini

Found it on the US tablet!

Using Root Explorer I went to /cust_spec/system/etc/cfg_btv_wifi_only_hisi.ini

band_5g_enable=0 change it to band_5g_enable=1

Then restarted and I could see and connect to my 5Ghz network.

So far it seems to work fine but we are talking minutes since I got it changed.

Thanks for the tip, I just rooted my M3 and did that suggestion, and also ro.config.hw_is_hide_wifi_5g=false nothing else. After reboot it worked.

I purchased a huawei mediapad m3 from amazon (in the US), and in Huawei eRecovery mode, I have noticed that my 5GHz band connection showed up and was able to connect to it. No idea what that means outside of it has the physical capability, but hope this info will help

Just a quick note - after running the stock Huawei recovery, the 5Ghz band was still enabled on my US version of the M3.

Hey, I'm trying to edit the cust_spec folder, file, and it won't let me save the file containing the variable to change. I cant get the folder to let me change its permissions for me to write.

Wish I read this thread to the end instead of installing the Chinese version.
The Chinese version didn't have the Play Store and while I managed to install it via the gapps project, it still has issues. Is there a way to get the US version back?
Does anyone have a clean backup (One without your personal info, files, etc) I could use?
Thanks.
