Any way to unlock the 5GHz WiFi band for US-version?

I was able to install the US Nougat Beta and can confirm that the Full OTA version can be installed on a rooted and unlocked US -Version through the Firmware Finder DNS method. I was able to change the tablet from using the phone app versions of apps like chrome and YouTube by running the adb density command and setting it to 320 as anything higher and the settings app doesn't work. After that, I was able to install TWRP into the recovery2 partition (eRecovery partition) which left the standard recovery partition untouched. I like installing to this partition because TWRP can be launched by holding volume up in the "Device Can't Be Trusted" screen. What I haven't been able to find, is a version of Supersu that works with this version of Nougat. Every version of Supersu I have tried fails at patching the boot image. So without that I cannot get the 5Ghz wireless radio or Xposed framework working.

You can change the screen density under developer options on 7.0. It does not last last reboot, but is easy to do. Just set it to 650 or 700 to get tablet resolution

If you haven't changed view mode (at least it was that way in Marshmallow on the M3) if you run "adb shell wm density 320 && adb reboot" the density change is persistent and will stick after reboot. I can confirm that my density change has stuck after rebooting multiple times.

I was able to root the US version of the tablet with Nougat with Magisk, but how the 5G is enabled/disabled has changed and I cannot find the file or spot in the old file to update to allow 5G so I am stuck using 2.4ghz.

So it seems all I needed was a better file manager. I was using Total Commander, which it turns out is not as good as Root Explorer. The file to turn on 5Ghz wifi is called "cfg_btv_hisi.ini" and is in the "cust_spec\vendor\etc" directory, which didn't even look like a folder in Total Commander, and is the same, just change "band_5g_enable=0" to "band_5g_enable=1" save enabling the permission change to write and then reboot. All the settings I had for 5Ghz SSIDs in Marshmallow were still there, I didn't even have to type in passwords again.

Now all I need to do is find a new way to do all the things I did with xposed framework, which doesn't work with Nougat yet.

Hi, My M3 came from Japan, I flashed it with EU firmware. Make everything changed like all of above comments. from "band_5g_enable=0" to "band_5g_enable=1" to "Open /system/build.prop and find ro.config.hw_is_hide_wifi_5g=true and change it to "false" . So now what I got just only 5G band enabled, I knew it because in mobile hotspot config allow to select 5G band. But I can't see any 5G wifi network around.
One thing I just wondering is the build.prop file, when I changed permission it to write and leave it after modified to false value. I restarted the tablet and it stuck in boot loop. I have to go in TWRP to modified the build.prop back to 0644 and it boot as normal.
Please give me some help... Many thanks

Hello everyone,

I'm a semi-noob hoping to find some clarification here. I just bought a US version BTV-W09 that has EMUI 5.0. I want to enable 5GHz WiFi but all the info I have been able to find is about rooting the old EMUI 4.x system. How can I root with the update and/or enable 5Ghz WiFi? Sorry if the answer is out there somewhere, I searched and was not able to find anything. Thanks in advance!

As near as I have been able to determine, buying 4 "credits" which cost 4 euros and using dc-unlocker is the easiest (and perhaps only) way.

Magisk work for me getting root....

International model supports 5Ghz

As posted elsewhere, the International model BTV-DL9 supports 5Ghz and automatically upgraded to EMUI 5.0 & Android 7.0
I was lucky enough to be able to return the US version and buy the BTV-DL9 from a Taiwan EBay seller, plugplayers. The price included priority shipping & 5 days later it arrived!
While it costs more, it was well worth it to me.
While I am able to get WiFi speeds over 200Mbps (I pay my provider for) activating the Bluetooth severely slows it down (@20mbps) which I can live with since I very rarely use both at the same time.
One trick to setting up this model is to use the "airplane mode" while doing so.
This model deserves an easy 5 star rating.
Huawei C. S. was a waste of time.

Total Noob Stuck at 20Mbps DL on 50Mbps connection?!?

Short of it: iPhone 7 and computer have no issues getting the 50/12 I pay for. My $300 U.S. Version (Amazon) Mediapad M3 8.4 gets only 20Mbps D/L; verified only connecting to the 2.4Ghz band of my 2.4/5.0 Wifi Router by logging into it. EXTREMELY dissatisfied that this price of a Pad is getting such slow speeds - less than half of my other devices. Ridiculous!

I want to re-enable the 5.0Ghz band, but I can't figure out how, for the life of me. I've been pouring through this forum for hours regarding my BTV-W09 U.S. model.

Haaaaaalllllpppp plz!!!

I also have the U S version of the M3. I am getting full max speeds on my 75/5 connection. I let it update to emui 5 and nougat 7.0 right out of the box. Is yours still running 6.0?

Yep, 5.0 and Marshmallow 6.0.

Where'd you get yours? Amazon here... BTV-W09, build # BTV-W09C128B005.

Talked to Huawei today and they said it's not a matter of if, but when the 5.0/7.0 release will be available to me. It just comes out at different times for different build #s. They said it'll fix my D/L slowness, too... Fingers crossed that it does, and soon!

I purchased mine from Newegg in July. Mine is the BTV-W09C128B351. As soon as I went online it offered the update to nougat.

Ah, so mine's the XXX-XXXXXXXB005 and yours is the XXX-XXXXXB351. 'Preciate it.

It would stand to reason that yours is newer if the build numbers progress sequentially. Should be just a matter of time before mine updates too, according to Huawei (like I mentioned), and they said it'll fix my speed. Unfortunately they can't give me an exact date because it's in Google's hands - they're the one's who integrate Huawei's-supplied 5.0 into their Nougat 7.0 and push the firmware update out.

Man, it'd be so much better if I just had a date! LOL. Even if it were a month or two, actually KNOWING the date would be great!

So you've logged into your router and actually verified that your tablet is connected to both the 2.4 AND 5.0 bands, now that you're on the 5.0/7.0 combo update?

Thanks for the tip, I just rooted my M3 and did that suggestion, and also ro.config.hw_is_hide_wifi_5g=false nothing else. After reboot it worked.
Hi, can you enlighten me how to get the unlock password from EMUI website?

I have tried quite a few times, but it prompted me with an error. Thanks a lot!

So, that was it--just the OTA update to get those speeds, or did you have to root/enable 5Ghz?

If not, does the 5.0/7.0 version have 5Ghz enabled? Or do you only get 2.4Ghz but still get your full service speed of 75/5? Thanks!

I am getting my full speed on the 2.4Ghz. I have not rooted it to enable the 5Ghz. I had thought about rooting but decided to use DNS 66. It does a good job on ad blocking.
