I am fed up with the battery life on my Z Droid. From taking it off the charger at 7am I might get to 5pm with not much use (no games, only email and browsing) and if I make calls and stuff the battery life is even worse.

Not help from Motorola and they are not going to replace the battery under warranty so I am going to go 3rd party. I wonder if anybody has had good experiences with battery replacements, where did you get it from and how is the phone now?

Looking at iFixit and some YT videos it doesn't seem like a hard job so any shop who can replace an iPHone battery can surly replace the Moto Z one. It seems all you need is a heat gun to remove the screen some tweezers to remove cables and not even a screw driver.

For example here is one that looks reasonable

Thanks

I ordered one from AliExpress ( an original replacement ) and I'm waiting for it to arrive and replace the old and dying one ( I will probably make a thread when it arrives, maybe even with step by step instructions ).

As for the tools, heat guns are also rather cheap on the site ( ~ 10$ ) so the whole battery replacement (along with brand new tools ) should cost less than 35$ in total ( 20$ for the battery, 10$ for the heat gun and around 1$ for those small repair tools (from which you only need the lever and "guitar picks" ) ) .

And if you can't do it yourself, make sure that the person repairing it for you knows what they're doing since the front sensors can be somewhat easily damaged.

Cool. Can you link me to the part you ordered? I think the local guys repair guys know what they are doing.

Why does Lenovo/ moto will not repair it under warranty ( in Europe you get 24 month warranty even for the battery).

If you want you can try to buy a 3000mAh battery (not original) and get even more battery life.

Have you tried the 3000mAh battery? Do you know if it improves much? I'm barely getting 1h30m of SOT on a full day with the original battery, with less than 8 months of usage. Somedays I can't get past 1h SOT, dying at 50-55m.

Thanks
1. I had a good experience, but my contact /repair store has some contact that could get it for about the same price on eBay.
2. He however did kill the screen in the process (had to replace that too, you really need that iOpener)

Battery is better, but I still need to use a Mod for it to last till 9pm. (it used to die around 3-4pm with dergraded battery)

Sounds good. The upgrade doesn't look too hard for a reputable repair place. Even iFixit gave it a 7/10 for fixability which is pretty good and they did not mention the fragile nature of the sensors.

Bought a similar battery for a Huawei Mate S (original 2620mAh vs. non-original 3100mAh) Link: goo.gl/TseQRQ.

In case of the Mate S I can tell, that the new 3100mAh lasted a lot longer than the orignial battery. But like a lot items on aliexpress, you can't trust the information that the seller is providing. So you have to try it by yourself.

Well in the end I got this battery

https://goo.gl/UBC4Pt

It's 3000mAh so it might be better than my current one or it could be just a dud! I guess I will see a few weeks or so

There's a bunch on Ebay but since I don' t live in the US most won't ship internationally, presumably because of LiOn batteries? Aliexpress don't care :)

Any updates on that battery of yours?
Just arrived. Now trying to work out which place I should ask to have it replaced.
Based on comments on the Moto Z forum at Motorola, some folks have had good luck with a full factory reset so I might try that first before I do the battery upgrade

How did the batteries work out for everyone? I broke my screen doing it - ended up taking it to a repair shop and they couldn't repair it in 3 weeks so I ended up just rebuying a new Moto Z for $300 from Amazon.

I have done the replacement with a original battery a few months ago...The old one had merely 1200mah left.
I strongly suggest, you buy an original battery (GV30, LG Chem)! From my own experience on other phones, those 3000mah batteries are junk and supposedly will not provide the 3000mah or be even worse in degrading than the original battery. You simply can not put more energy in the same battery form factor.

In terms of replacement, a hairdryer was sufficient enough to soften the glue in the moto z, while using a wet cloth to protect the display from the heat. I used a very thin wire to first lift up the upper glas panel on the back to then provide pressure to the front glas with a pen through a small hole near the front flash. you have to heat the front panel very carefully and use something like a credit card, to lift it up step by step. Then carefully detach the cables and remove the battery with some force, as it is glued down. For the reassembly i suggest to remove the original glue pads on the frame and use Zhalida B7000 glue. I first tried to glue it back together with the original glue pads, but the front panel would not stick good enough and lift up now and then. When using B7000, you have to use sufficient glue to make up for the height of the original glue pads, but be careful the glue does not flow and stick to your volume/power buttons (this happened to me and it was a nightmare to remove and clean those buttons). Let it dry for a minute before pressing the front panel back into place and then put some books or something heavy on the phone and let the glue dry a few hours, before you remove excessive glue at the front panel margins.

It worked out great for me following the previous Android update screwing my battery. Get Turbo Power Mod if you can. Coupled with that, it should take you through a day without any problems at all
