I just received a notification that Oreo is coming soon for my Moto Z Verizon so I might wait for that before replacing the battery

My battery was awful before the update, and it was still awful after the Oreo update. The only difference is that instead of pointing the battery drain to Android OS and Android System, Oreo now points Mobile Standby as the culprit. I've sent my Z for a screen (burn-in) + battery replacement under warranty so I can sell it for a reasonable price. The phone has already been 2 weeks in the technical assistance. When I get it back I'll post here if the battery replacement did any good.

any updates on the performance of the replacement oem batteries? Mine is draining fast and motorola wants $125 for a replacement. Oreo didn't help, so its definitely the battery going bad.

I bought and installed a "Losoncoer 3000 mAh GV30" replacement from Aliexpress at a very affordable price. The phone runs a lot longer than before, but certainly not because of the acclaimed "3000 mAh". It's probably like the stock capacity. There are these GV40 Batteries that are also for the Moto Z, but not my model (XT1650-03). Don't know if they would work too.

MY ADVICE: You should definitely go slow and take your time while doing this and you should also buy 2 mm double sided tape as the adhesive most definitely won't reseal. That said, it was easier than I initially thought it would be. Provided you have a few plastic prying tools and a hair dryer.

Might wanna get the black type adhesive instead of the 3M Red ones.

3M reds doesn't last too well on the right side of the device due to heat. It peels off.

The battery I bought claimed to be 3000 mAh. But it turned out to be a Motorola Battery wrapped in the Losoncoer branding with the original capacity. Don't buy the Losoncoer. There doesn't exist a higher capacity battery. Save money and go for a original one straight away. For the price I paid I could have gotten a little repair set included with the battery replacement.

Did you manage to use 2mm double sided tape to reseal your screen? I'm about to replace my battery and wanted to see how the 2mm tape held up over time.

Thanks!

Yes, make sure that the metal bracket over the display connector is flush. Then use the black adhesive to reseal. You have to use clamps along the sides where the adhesive is for quite some time. If the bracket wasn't put back down enough, you will end up with a slightly raised screen on the left side of the device. You can also use a hair dryer to soften the tape while clamping. It may ensure a better seal.
Good luck!

Great, I appreciate the advice. Just to confirm: the original adhesive will no longer be enough to reseal the display, and I should scrape away the old adhesive and add the 2mm tape correct?

Thanks for your response.

Well if you're really lucky and removed the screen without tearing off most of the adhesive, then it could be possible to reseal it without replacing the tape. I'd not recommend this though, as a roll of this adhesive costs next to nothing.

Well I finally had the battery replaced on my Moto Z. It was done by an authorised Motorola agent so I had to wait till they got the right parts. They had the battery but the official adhesive tape which they said was the tape that guaranteed water proofing. I was without my phone for 2 weeks and used a Nexus 6 (flashed with Oreo via Nitrogen ROM) in the interim. As an aside the phone worked pretty well and about the only feature I missed from the Z was the finger print reader.

Got the Z back and upgraded to Oreo immediately. Battery life seems pretty good. After about 2 weeks this is a typical battery reading.

I ordered one from AliExpress ( an original replacement ) and I'm waiting for it to arrive and replace the old and dying one ( I will probably make a thread when it arrives, maybe even with step by step instructions ).

As for the tools, heat guns are also rather cheap on the site ( ~ 10$ ) so the whole battery replacement (along with brand new tools ) should cost less than 35$ in total ( 20$ for the battery, 10$ for the heat gun and around 1$ for those small repair tools (from which you only need the lever and "guitar picks" ) ) .

And if you can't do it yourself, make sure that the person repairing it for you knows what they're doing since the front sensors can be somewhat easily damaged.
I changed my battery and found out my problem is not battery. Its all about software (for me) and i cant interfere because of bootloader lock.

I replaced the battery the last week, that resolve the problem. I live in México and Motorola here does not bring the correct support, then I went to a small company called FixIt and for $60 dollars they replace the battery, my big doubt is about the adhesive, they used a liquid one. They are specialized in IPhones and used the same adhesive for all the Apple devices. I'll hope the adhesive made the work.

About the problem with the original battery, they told me that the turbocharger is the origin of all, the batteries used by Motorola does not support the extra voltage.

Can anyone recommend a place in UK to get my Moto z battery changed? I bought it from Dubai and it's out of warranty. Moto UK won't touch it.

I change my moto Z battery at moto service centre 6 month ago. Until now no problems, 6 hours continue usage with LTE on. One thing to avoid is moto original (OEM) wall 15watt charger. I believe is the culprit. Now on oreo with july security patch, retapac Channel build number OPLS27.76-51-7 baseband version M8996_1239.53.01.126.29.01R SRD

I do not know what to do, because I hear people changing the battery still have problems. I think to attend the new update for the next month, and if Motorola don't resolve the problems, I change the battery.
Just change moto z battery at motorola/lenovo authorized service centre, you have peace of mind as it genuine OEM battery.
Moto z with Oreo is rock solid, i can confirm doze really kick in when you leave your phone stand still (minimum battery drain). Built number OPLS27.76-51-7
