I had the HTC 10 before the Note7, I actually used T-Mobile's Jump On Demand to switch.

The HTC 10 is arguably the smoothest, best all-around performing phone this year.
I had mine bootloader unlocked/S-OFF & running VIPER 10 ROM, basically stock HTC with a lot of customization options.
The phone was fine w/o root, but, I like to use AdAway, which requires it. Otherwise, I'd been OK with it as-is out of the box.

With that said, the HTC 10, IMHO, was a rather boring phone, too close to stock Android, which is a real Yawnfest for my usage. (No wireless charging, dropped the I-R Blaster, a real disappointment).

Also, I really enjoyed BlinkFeed, but, now that the company powering it, News Republic, was recently purchased by Cheetah Mobile, I lost all interest in the phone & switched.
