Same problem and same solution offered in my service center too!!

The people saying that the problem was fixed after they disabled the gesture fail to understand that the fault in the gesture is the external manifestation of a larger problem which resides in the power button hardware. The only sustainable solution to this issue, involves root and/or custom roms. If you want to know more, reply to this quote.

PS: The service centres also tried to convince me that it is a software issue, and flash nougat over my los15.1.
Stupid service centers inexperienced persons!!!

Mine had/has the same problem...it started about three months ago, it got so bad that I had to press hard about 3-4 times before it responded, I even orderd a replacement button, but now it seems to have fixed itself, it's responsive now almost every time I press it. I don't know what happened.

Better take care of that problem asap. I had a Nexus 5 with the same problem and one day the power button got stuck and it got in a neverending loop, it kept on booting - rebooting.

It's a different problem, on Nexus 5 the problem was caused by a well known LG mainboard flaw, here is just a bad power button

It's a hardware issue.Since the button is spongy and less tactile,it is registering multiple click for the single click.
Only solution is to replace the button with good quality one.

Not a software issue

I would like to confirm that this is not a software issue. Peope bragging about disabling camera app option from doible clicking power button do not understand the query itself. Query is not about camera app getting opened up. It is about the power button single click acting as a double click, opening of camera app jist confirms this. Just to avoid frustration of camera app getting opened the option should be turned off. But this is not the SOLUTION to this problem because it is not a software issue. I read some people rooted a new device to downgrade to Nougat...hmm just to disable doible click camera app open? It was even more waste of time and an operating system. You rooted for solvong this issue which is not related to software? Really?

This is utterly a hardware issue dur to cheap buttons. And don't say YOUR button is faulty. It has happened with 90% of Mi A1 handsets sold in Asia, Australia, and Europe. Only american handsets are in good condition.

Stop solving it with software troubleshooting and destroying your phone with rooting. In most cases rooting is not required in 2018. Because many features are available without root now. Like, I used to root to remove bloatwares. Then to reverse teather. These are not any issues in 2018.

All you can do is to open the cover and take out buttons. Clean them and fix install them again so that they are not loose. It will work fine then

I had the same problem with the power button after the latest updates (september - october) .. and my fix was to activate the 'double tap the Power button to start the camera app' as it was turned off on mine in the Gestures.

Power + volume buttons on this phone is flimsy. Mine broke after 9 months. Had to really push the power button HARD to get it to respond. And even then it sometimes still doesn't respond. Volume buttons were starting to display the same symptoms. Sometimes they don't respond.

Brought the phone to Xiaomi's service center and got the buttons (all 3 were on 1 module) replaced under warranty. Working as new again since.

Don't know how long these will last, though. ?

On the plus side, even if it were out of warranty, you can get the power+volume buttons module for $1. It's not hard to replace either, so hey, I'm not gonna complain (much). ?

Which one to choose, that's fit and work with it?
I mean I don't want to change it with the same crab, but with one that have a higher quality.

If you have electronics knowledge, the simple thing you can do is buy the button ribbon of samsung high end phone ,carefully remove the buttons from them and solder it to the ribbon in mi a1.
