Hey I have this phone:
http://www.cellphones.ca/cell-phones/zte-grand-x/specs/

Very similar phone, almost exactly the same cpu..

Will that work for me if I try a zte blade or Zte Grand X plus rom?
Thanks
Steve.

(Stuck on 4.3, really unhappy, really want lollipop)

If anyone could help me, I would be very thankful. I had my rooted phone in my pocket, and it locked up. So I turned it off and it booted into TWRP. I rebooted again, same thing... I did a factory reset, same thing, I did a full disk wipe and installed an xmax rom from the sd card. Still the same. Tried one of my backups, it didnt work, tried another that was a factory reset. Still no go. I tried Cricket_Z987V1.3.9_Full_Stock_20150808.zip that I got from this thread. It changed the recovery but still only booted to the new recovery. The sad thing is that with the new recovery, I no longer can access the SD card from my computer and the up button doesn't work. I do have ways to get items onto my SD card if needed though.

The new recovery is Android System Recovery <3e> Z987V1.3.9

again, any help is appreciated

Do a factory reset and see if that helps. It sounds like your data partition is corrupted and you need to factory reset.

---------- Post added at 12:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:14 PM ----------

After that you can use kingroot to get root back

So if you just select the reboot system now option in recovery and leave it alone for a few minutes what happens then?
It will reboot and go directly back to recovery. I have let it sit until the battery drains. It just sits there, the screen will dim, but that is it. Even if I try to reboot into download mode, it just goes back to the recovery.

I made a huge mistake and didn't make sure all traces of root were gone before installing the new lollipop update from ZTE. Mainly I think it was a problem with recovery. Anywho, I am now stuck in a bootloop with no recovery. However, I can get into FTM which does allow for me to slightly communicate with the phone through the PC. The only reason I know that the PC can communicate with it is because "adb reboot" will reboot the phone. Also "adb install " random.apk" " will install an apk to phone apparently.

I'm not a phone guru by any means, but I thought that this info might be a jump start for anyone who knows ADB and might be able to help. Its worth noting that fastboot does not recognize the phone at all.

I hope this helps someone figure out how to fix this problem that a few of us are having.

Try this. Boot into ftm, connect your phone, and open a command prompt and try this. Type the following commands without the quotation marks.

"adb shell"
(You should get a prompt that says [email protected]$ or something like that)
(Now the prompt should say something like [email protected]#)
If the $ changes to # when you type "su" then I can help you.

You can't get back into twrp by holding power and volume up until the device force reboots into recovery?
Edit: I have a pre-rooted twrp friendly lollipop update you can get on android forums.
No. I downloaded the update to lollipop off ztes site and being rooted and having a custom recovery it put me in a boot loop. I know I should of been stock but I was too excited as after asking zte and cricket about it both saying check with each other. Lol

OK, I'm having issues. Anyone know how to auto-hide the nav buttons?
I'm using masterchief's 5.1 ROM, so of course rooted. I have tried 4 different apps in the play store, and they work, for about 5 minutes then the phone reboots. After rebooting, I'll get maybe another 5-10 minutes of use, then it reboots again.
I then deleted each app as the problems persisted and downloaded good ole lmt launcher. The same issues persisted. I then did the switch trick to make system rw and adjusted the build.prop so that the nav buttons would not appear then used ROM toolbox to make lmt launcher a system app, but yet the problems still occurred. So I went back to the original build.prop setup and deleted lmt launcher, and there are no issues.
I would prefer to have pie style controls, but anything to make nav buttons auto-hide will work.

PS while in build.prop I noticed a line I didn't like

debug.sf.fb_always_on=1

I wanna know if I can safely disable or remove that line from build.prop cuz I don't care for Facebook.

I'm pretty sure that line is referring to the framebuffer, not Facebook.
