After having lived with the initial unresponsiveness for months I finally have a working phone! A new version of the android software became available today, and after upgrading, the screen works just fine! So there was a software solution to this after all. Perhaps HTC finally realised that many had this problem and looked into it.

So all who still struggle, try to upgrade to the latest sw version.
Which version did you just update to? Mine said no updates available and I am on 1.45.531.1.

LCD & Digitizer

I wonder, maybe it's better to replace the digitizer and LCD together as a pre assembled unit. You can get them for around $80. It's twice the price but may resolve some headaches (dusty screens, digitizer compatibility). Then again, perhaps not.

Thoughts anyone?

So do you think it's the digitizer itself?
As a professional repair center we ran into the same issue. It would take exactly 9 tries to get the phone to unlock - then it was fine. As it turns out, there is a difference in the digitizer portion of the lens assembly. If you have a T-Mobile phone you must use the original T-Mobile branded screen. Doing so has resulted in a 100% success rate.

Since the lens and the digitizer are mated together, there could still be an issue in assembly where the wrong parts are attached even if branding is correct. Not sure if the outfit assembling these is aware of the difference.

screen trouble too :(

Ok so heres my story.

I have a non branded sensation from phones 4 U in the UK that i have had for about three months and i dropped for the tenth time and it landed completely parallel with the non slip floor at work on christmas eve :(

My software details are as follows (STOCK ROM)

Android version: 2.3.4
Sense: 3.0
Software number: 1.50.401.1

Kernel:
2.6.35.13-g1e13373
[email protected] #1
SMP PREEMPT Mon Sep5 13:55:37 CST 2011

this is where i got my replacement: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HTC-SENSA...K_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item2eb8071efb

THIS SCREEN DID NOT WORK CORRECTLEY AS ALL THE OTHERS HAVE REPORTED
Read On Though
The serials from my original screen reads as follows.

On the cable:

PYD_6042A_FPC REV:A
MK V5 T(some strange symbol goes here that looks like a pair of lips)2 VTM 0

On the chip (im pretty sure this is correct although it was very hard to read)

8CTMA 340-4LQ1-091113E05CYP621599PHID086

I havent got the replacement part numbers unfortunately as i haven taken it apart again yet.

I havent turned my phone off since doing this....Tonight my battery completely died on me which is very weird for me to let it get so low BUT!.... after plugging it in to my computer to charge so i could get the software details up on screen it seems to be working 9.5/10 now for responsiveness!!!

The only trouble i have is that where the strip at the bottom where the home buttons are etc i did not stick down when i put the new screen in again so not always responsive on the two left hand buttons, but i hope that will sort itself out when i do stick it down.

So for some this may work draining the battery and then plugging it in,seems silly that the battery being drained has resolved it but its definately 99% working the 1% being the bit i didnt stick down.

I will keep you updated if anything changes.:)

Getting a little unresponsiveness on the main part of the screen but could that be due to the bottom panel not being connected properly?

It's a rather well known issue check the stickies in the general section there is a thread there with the known fixes. It's not your digitizer though...... Seems to be a grounding issue :)

Ok, after I dropped my sensation and smashed the digitilizer into a thousand pieces I went onto E-Bay and bought the cheapest digitilizer I could find and installed it onto my sensation. I started to experience issues similar to those being posted on here after the installation such as the unresponsive screen.

After coming across this thread and seeing that different digitilizers work better with different phones I decided to buy one from Hong Kong following the success by shawndh. The e-bay seller is no.1-tech and the screen arrived today after a couple of weeks wait. I installed it this morning and my phone is working as if it is new once again. I am SOOOO relieved.

I tried to make a note of the digitilizers model numbers though unfortunately there was a label over the bit quoting the numbers which doesn't come off easily.

So I know have a perfectly working phone and a digitilizer in very good condition which wasn't compatible with my phone. If anyone would like me to mail this to them so they can at least try it in their phone just send me a PM with your address and I'll post it out to the first person to ask.

My story

This is an interesting and informative thread. Here's my contribution.

I cracked the digitizer on my HTC Sensation Z710e, P/N 99HNA061-00, imported from Singapore I believe. Settings/About phone/Hardware info reports hardware version 0128. I ordered a replacement from tmart.com, as suggested in the YouTube video. The replacement does NOT have the slow response problem. It works fine.

The original digitizer was glass, I think, and had just "htc" in the top middle. It was marked:
PYD V1.0 (I guess "PYD" is Pyramid, the original name for Sensation)
E219454 <=> 1 (the "<=>" is a joined up double arrow symbol)
UR ICACichia (the "UR" is the Underwriters Labs symbol)
94V-01119
CLB68B (printed on a sticker on the other side).

The replacement digitizer is plastic, and has "htc" at top left and ".T..Mobile" at top right. Its markings are hidden because it's installed in the device. If it's important, I can take it out again and read off the markings.

I accidentally ripped the flat flexible cable that feeds the thin backlight strip for the four softkeys. This FFC also has the main microphone, but that part is intact. I will try to repair the FFC but I may have to live without the backlight for the softkeys. Not a big loss.

After I replaced the digitizer, I had the problem reported by shawndh - no backlight. This turned out to be because a piece of flat flexible cable was not pressed firmly against the grounded metal in the bottom right corner, behind the digitizer, near the Search softkey.

That's my story, I hope it helps somebody.

I just got finished replacing the digitizer on my wife's sensation and used asktronics which was mentioned earlier in the thread. I live in GA and actually went by their office to buy it. They gave me a digitizer with the tmobile logo on it and it works perfectly. Their auctions for the screen are $35 including tools plus figure on another $4 for the 3m tape. They wanted $119 to replace it if they did the work.
Their ebay store - ask_tronics

Their website - injuredgadgets dot com.

They also have a youtube video up on how to replace it which is nice. The only part that was missing was telling you to put the heat thermal tape back on.
I apparently can't post links yet but if you search htc sensation replace digitizer it was the second one down by injured gadgets.

Took me 2 hours and was not that fun but it worked!

This seems to be a common disease after replacing the digitzer, unresponsivenes after a wake up, I have this same issue with mine TMobile, my digitizer was shattered and order one online from ebay with no identification on the flex. Like I did it this (replace the digitizer) I thought I broke something until I googled. Yesterday I got scare cause changing digitizer of a SIII my lcd got broke and damn those lcd are expensive and now I have a beatiful expensive bookstand laying on my table I thought this gonna happen again with my sensation.

So, googling a Little more I found a solution it seems to be problem with the digitizer ver. Mine is this:
PYD V 1.0
E21949454 < >
ruIICACichia
94v-0 1124

The solution I found the sensantion have to be s-off and superCID, cause it need to recalibrate the digitizer. To do this it was a pain in the ass for me cause my phone it wasnt s-off but the bootloader was unlocked by the HTCDev the cause was the HTC Sync was installed and messed up all the process and erase my stock rom too. So finally I got to work and is working very fine. Here is the link

Thanks for nonione for this post and thanks and credits to DRACULAVK and MELLOW3

I ordered a new digitizer from Amazon and it worked perfect after installation. After reading the threads here, I was very nervous about installing it due to the numerous issues but everything went smoothly. It took me about 2 hours to do it which is probably really slow but I was taking my time and double checking everything to make sure nothing went wrong. The hardest part was getting the old digitizer off because I was worried about damaging the lcd. I just wanted to let others know that not all replacements have issues.

My original was the PYD_6042A_FPC REV:A and the new one was PYD V1.0 E308252.
