ok, this is what happened; the app opened with this already there:-

Code:
$ export PATH=/data/local/bin:$PATH
$

so I added SU and hit return; I got this:-

Code:
$ export PATH=/data/local/bin:$PATH
$ SU
SU: permission denied

Does this mean I'm not rooted?

Yeah well you never know if SE change their minds and cancel the unlocking website :D
Better get your gift before Santa takes it back :eek:
I will try to convince Marc from MIUI to think about the Arc...

1. SE won't cancel the unlocking site, I'm sure about that. I recently interviewed a guy from SE, and he says it's permanent. http://www.androidguys.com/2011/04/16/interview-harold-de-kort-communications-manager-sony-ericsson/
2. Don't you think we'll need a recovery first?

Of course I know this, you think I am stupid?! :rolleyes:

I was going to say: I then entered su again but in lower case....and this is what I got...

Code:
$su
#

Should something else happen?

;-)

SU = StupidUser = permission denied
su= superuser = # = root access granted
Now your phone can use apps needing root access, and adb push/pull stuff, and etc.

When I type:

$ adb shell
$ su

I get:

[1] + Stopped {signal}

and I get back to the $ prompt, not # prompt

Any reason for this?

I'm rooted.

You do realize that you are bumping a thread that is OVER A YEAR OLD?
You should check your binary, in superuser if it says "Legacy" then you need to re-root
