Can't see why upgrade honestly, I only got the phone a year ago, and it's performing pretty well.
But pixel 5 will be a day one buy that's for sure.
Well being your Pixel 2 XL is only one year old you're fine but mine is coming up to 2 years October 26 and battery degradation is very real on it. I can get through a work day fine but on days off, I definitely need to top it off once maybe twice.

I pre-ordered the pixel 2XL and it royally sucked to go without root for the first few weeks.

I stopped rooting after I got my first Google phone which was the Nexus 5X. I realized I only rooted my older phones for the cleaner Android experience and that's what I already get with Pixel phones. What do you use root for still?

I'm not sure yet. I think I'll wait for reviews, but so far I'm kind of thinking I might wait for the 5 as my 2XL is still going relatively strong - the battery's degrading a little, and the white coating on the back is bashed about a bit but it's otherwise fine. I kind of feel like the 5 may be a more significant upgrade given the very recent serious competition from the new iPhone's camera. Right now, the camera would only be a fairly slight upgrade. I do like the look of Motion Gestures for skipping tracks while driving, but otherwise it doesn't seem too compelling. Having said that, if the reviews are great and there are decent discounts a little later in the year I might reconsider.

Getting a new battery seems a cheaper alternative ;)

I've been reading a lot of Twitter posts with Pixel 4 pics and the camera improvement over the 2 XL looks way more noticeable than it appears.
We need to see what gcam 7.1 brings for us. There seem to be many changes

A new battery is cheaper but you lose the water resistance and I'd rather put the $100 or so into a new 2019 phone than an old 2017 one. These devices aren't like my car which I want to keep running for 10+ years. Plus I never keep a phone more than 2 years. I'm no different than someone who just leases cars and swaps every few years.

People rip on the Pixel not doing 4K 60 FPS but the 7T doesn't even to 4K at all. [emoji2371]

Correction:
It doesn't do ultra wide at 4K yet. My bad.

I don't even understand peoples obsession with camera "stats". I bet 95% or greater will never do anything with those photos other than post them to social media or view them on a computer screen.... What does a normal consumer even need a 4k personal video for?

Very true. It's just a pissing contest. [emoji23] Someone should make a meme of how blown out of proportion it is. Like "iPhone 11 user mocks Pixel 4 for no 4K 60 FPS. Continues to upload vertical videos to Instagram." [emoji1787]

So I see many of the newsfeeds telling P2 owners that it's time to upgrade. For me I'm about performance and I'm kind of peeved that P4 doesn't have 5G. I don't know much about 5G but it seems that we'd have to wait for the P5.

My question is , if I . decided to go get a phone with 5G, which one?

If I decided to get a P4XL and since I'm with Verizon wanted it soon ,I'd wait for the specials that have no trade in. This way I could sell my P2XL. I'm thinking that sale would be around Christmas or into the New Year. All you for a while are the 2 for 1 but you have to add a new line, don't need that. Or money off with a trade, I won't do that either. I'm wondering if I should go back to Samsung with a s10 Plus. 5G. LG ThinQ?
Decisions.

Ordered the pixel 4, tho not with any excitement !!!

Dismayed with Google not even giving an audio dongle this time. That's wrong imho.

My 2xl came with one. The Mrs p3 came with headphones.

Cannot get the pixel 4 in orange with 128gb storage which was my initial choice so gone for 2nd choice black.

The biggest worry I have about the p4 is battery life. If it doesn't manage 17hrs with a couple of hrs of talking, an hour of surfing and searching for a phone signal for 8-9 hrs when on the road it will be going back in the first week.

There is so much attention being paid about the face unlock and 30fps in 4k.. Personally I thought the position and how fast the finger print reader was, was spot on.. Google nailed it.

As for 4k 60fps, it's not a deal breaker for me personally.

As for soli gesture controls.. time will tell, but at present it's wasted on me...

Nobody is mentioning the volume either in the first hands on reviews. My Mrs p3 is noticeably louder than my 2xl.

How much difference is the new speaker setup going to make ??

Waiting to see what it's like when it's in my hands, however at present I cannot say I have any real enthusiasm..

I may keep the 2xl for another year if I'm not happy with the p4. It's been a great phone.

Just curious what people's thoughts were
I'm on a Panda 2XL I just traded for, and I'm torn. I want the 4 or 4XL, but I want to take some time to figure out whether a carrier AT&T one will be better (enhanced messaging since RCS isn't universal yet in the US) or buy an unlocked one for the obvious advantages. Gonna keep calm and not pull the trigger too fast...maybe.

I really like the LG V40. If I would have bought unlocked I probably would still be using it as my driver. There were just a few customization tools I would have liked to add. I REALLY notice a difference between it's 5GE performance vs the Pixel 2 XL I'm now using. For me though, the advantages of the neural core (less reliance on good data connection to use Assistant) and Soli (face unlock and approach recognition mostly) will make the 4 much more compelling than any other phone, even with the lack of 5G.

Unless you live in Kansas City like me! Then 5G of any significance won't likely happen until 2025! We all are a might slower here in the Midwest! Which is more than fine by me ??

Bought my 2XL 128GB in June 2018 for 500$
If I can find a good deal like this on a Pixel 4 XL later this year, than yeah, I might upgrade
This 2XL is definitely holding up, especially with that camera that is still as good as today's flagships

I'm seriously looking at the 4XL, but want to wait and get some real life comparison and reviews from users here before I sink a ton of $$$ into one.

My 2XL still runs really snappy and does everything I need it to do, and it doesn't cost me a cent :p

The same thing pretty much. My 2XL ist still running good enough for me, but a nice deal for 4XL could make me upgrade. I'm hoping that Amazon will have such deals after Christmas. That's how I got my Nexus 6P, it was missing a retail box and the price was ~30% off.

With a bigger bettery this would've been a good sell. I want a phone which will last me a full day with heavy usage. The next phone I'll invest will have that capability. I don't want to limit my phone just because I'm traveling or can't find a charging point.

Google made a **** decision with pixel 4. Seriously they messed up big time. I saw the live event they weren't confident while talking about the camera. Google had 1 year and they pooped big time. Soli is not a highlight feature it's a stupid feature with only good requirement of getting the phone to wake up as soon as you are reaching it.

Where the hell is Ultra wide camera? And why still an 8mp selfie shooter. People take more selfie these days then anything.

This phone can be made in a month because they didn't put any thinking while making it.

In a word; no. Still running the 2 XL and did add myself to the waiting list for the Orange 4 XL but backed out again for various reasons. They are:

1. The orange turns out to be more salmon pink and I don't want a pink phone.

2. The camera looks amazingly good, as always, but what's the point in having it with nowhere to store all those amazing photos.

3. This phone has gotten pretty annoying over the couple of years I've had it and I don't want to chance that continuing. It has screen burn, tells lies about its signal (says 4G - no internet!), there are many bugs in the software etc.

4. I don't like the idea of face unlock being my only option for security.

Gonna try a OnePlus 7T Pro. Looks better, cheaper and more onboard storage.
