I stopped rooting after I got my first Google phone which was the Nexus 5X. I realized I only rooted my older phones for the cleaner Android experience and that's what I already get with Pixel phones. What do you use root for still?

I still root for AdAway. Haven't found a better non-rooted alternative yet.
Agreed. I stopped rooting my phones once I got my Nexus 6. RE: AdAway, have you tried looking into DNS66? I've been using it for about 2 years now and it's pretty lightweight.

I've been using Google phones for the last 6 years. Nexus 5, 6P, 5X, and P2XL. I was really looking forward to the P4XL, while maybe I can understand the design of the phone, I cannot forgive google for not including an ultra wide lens. There's no excuse for not including one in 2019. Congrats Google, you've officially become the very thing you swore not to, Apple. Oh yeah and no more unlimited original photo upload.

OnePlus 7 Pro, here I come!

I think i also keep my pixel for another year.its still a solid phone with good bat life and an awesome cam.
I just received a complete new pixel from Google cause of warranty issues .and this after almost 2 year's haha.
This time i will stay a bit on pie because 10 ****ed my phone up somehow before.

Since you were able to trigger the warranty on the Pixel 2 XL, mine has a burned out Pixel on the left side of the screen, I got the purchase invoice from Amazon. I'm talking about Brazil.

At first I see no reason to get the Pixel 4 XL, because the Pixel 2 XL is serving me super well camera battery the only thing that could be better is the LG OLED screen is not very good. But overall not worth spending money on Pixel 4 XL.

Well I got my Pixel 4 XL yesterday and have no regrets. It was exactly 2 years to the day that I got the Pixel 2 XL. It's definitely the best aged phone I've had and still runs well. The next person to own it should still be pleased with it except for the battery life which is far from what I used to get even a year ago.

Even longer for me Galaxy Nexus Nexus 5 Nexus 6p Pixel 2xl. Skipped the Pixel 3's as they were "eh" compared to the P2XL. Was excited for the P4. Buts weird its like i like it but i want to hate it. And i hate it but i want to like it.

The design (from the back) looks awesome ive always loved Googles White/Black color scheme. But when you look at the front im completely turned off. I dont mind a chin or forhead as long as they are the same size and no bigger then the P2XL's. I much much much rather of had a bezeless , bezeless/notch (dont mind Oneplus's screen design) then the stupid radar chip. And i much rather of had an inglass fingerprint scanner rather then again the stupid radar chip.

The cameras i dont really care that much about. They all take wonderful normal take my phone out of my pocket open camera and shoot photos. All the extra astro and portrait super res bleh bleh is all really impressive but i use it maybe 1% of the time i take photos. And it all gets ported (already has) to the older models anyway its not so much the camera model in the phones as it is the software that runs them. The screens on the PX2XL onward have all been crap. Looks like the P4 is no different.

But id be willing to look past all of that if the phone was (and what i honestly feel its worth) $700 (for the XL)

But for $1000 and to ask more then the iphone. For this?!?! nahhh

I think if needed to buy a phone right now id go with the OnePlus 7 Pro. But for now ill hang on to the ol P2XL. Maybe see what blackfriday brings.

I got the 7 Pro.
Now this feels like an upgrade! OOS is pretty nice too, but I'm pretty sure in a month I'll root and pixelize the phone lol.

Black Friday is well and good, but the best deal will be in January or Feb. This way you could possibly get the phone without a trade in.

Is there any interest out there for the One Plus phone with 5G? Should that be a consideration? I'm peeved that 5G was left off the P4 series

You know how sketchy the 5G service is even if your city is listed right?

Compared to Note it is underwhelming

My friend got the Note 10. The stats on the Pixel 4 simply do not justify buying it. I don't want a Samsung just because I don't so I will wait another year and hop e that the 5 has some real meat to it. This was a bummer, Google.

I was on the fence with the trade in I had my old pixel xl just sitting next to me on the table and said your worth 450 bucks to Verizon, buh bye. I was going to wait until black friday deals but I just don't think they will discount 450 dollars. My pixel xl was worth under 100 so i traded it. My only regret is going to be locked bootloader. However I am seeing where some are able to unlock a verizon variant so I will try it when I get it on Tue.

Things I noticed so far on the Pixel 4 XL compared to the Pixel 2 XL:

- Screen doesn't have the blue shift!
- When 90 hz refresh rate is going, it's very, very smooth.
- The foreheads are the same size.
- Speakers are way louder, clearer, and have more range.
- The haptic feedback while typing is very good.
- 29 grams heavier without the case is noticable. I need to find a lighter case because it's up to 39 grams heavier than the Pixel 2 XL in it's lightest case.
- Out of the pocket, Face Unlock is technically slower than fingerprint scanner because I need to wake up the screen first. With fingerprint scanner, I can unlock while pulling it out. But when the phone is flat on something, the Motion Sense to turn on the screen already does make it very quick.
- Face Unlock is quicker and more convenient while the phone is in two handed typing position. No need to readjust to use the fingerprint scanner. Just take a second and it's recognized. It's very noticeable with LastPass which is probably the app that most frequently asks for verification.
- Nice to finally have voLTE and Sprint Visual Voicemail.
- I have a work profile because of the Company Portal app. It doubles up on stuff like Google, Play Store and other things. I just turned it off.
- The 2 XL aged very well over two years and it still runs quickly but the 4 XL is just faster and smoother in every way. It's more reactive and there's less waiting for anything. All those fractions of a second add up to many seconds over times.

Well for me face unlocking is a downgrade compare to fingerprint unlocking.

Anyway I'll probably wait for Pixel 5 so I can buy a 4 XL at a better price.

How could you make that decision without actually using the Pixel 4 XL Face Unlock on a daily basis?

Because I can fingerprint unlock my 2 XL when it's still inside my pocket, far from my face
