Anyone using this on Verizon yet?

Thanks for the thorough explanation. Now what is the easiest way to flash those us files on the dual sim? I need to get mine ready. Does it factory reset the phone in anyway? Where can I find instructions to flash. Is there any way to do the flashing without a computer?

So flashing will only give us volte on verizon? Also need volte on tmobile working. Are any devs modding the modem files so that we can bypass any block or having no approval from tmobile/sony to certify volte for compact?
No you don't have to factory reset the phone I recall. I don't have my XZ2 Compact anymore as the speakers started crackling...but yeah it's pretty easy.

I think I downloaded the USA firmware using XperiFirm and then used NewFlasher to *only* flash the OEM.sin and OEM_Extra.sin files...this didn't affect the phone in any way I could tell except that it enabled Verizon VoLTE. It did not enable T-Mobile VoLTE however...but this was a month or two ago so maybe Sony has gotten T-Mo VoLTE working? Not sure. Good luck!

I have to say, even though I seem to be one of the first people to get this phone working fully on Verizon, sometimes I have issues where I'll get an error about receiving a text message. No matter how many times I retry, I am unable to receive it. And when I haven't been texting someone, it's hard to know who sent me a message, and thus I can't really contact them to figure out what I missed. Usually messages go through fine, but this is definitely an irritating bug. It's really one of few issues I have with this phone. (The other being the camera crash I started a thread about.) I am using Textra.

HD Voice on Verizon Prepaid with XZ2c

I just activated an H8314 on prepaid and was told HD Voice wasn't supported for this phone... anyone else get this? Is this a prepaid thing (although supposedly prepaids get HD voice)? Or did they remove it from the list due to some of the problems people had? What gives?

I actually just deactivated it AND reactivated it today trying to troubleshoot MMS. (Seems like you need to use the actual Verizon Messages app sadly.) So it seems like it's still an option. Maybe check back after in case it takes a bit to update your options. If that doesn't work, I'd call Verizon and ask about it.

Thanks. Did you just enable/disable through myverizon?

For your MMS issues do you have the newest SIM? I burned 3 hours of my life yesterday because I picked up a brand new sim from an authorized reseller that was apparently fairly old. It let data and text through, but gave server error on voice calls.

I had to do it through the site. The app doesn't have the option to disable or enable that.
I think my SIM is fairly new. I got it off Amazon though, so who knows. I'm able to get calls/data/texts. Just for some reason Textra anyway doesn't play nicely with MMS. Verizon's texting app works fine with it though. And actually isn't as bad an app as I expected.

I plan to switch from AT&T to Verizon. Before doing so, I am wondering whether Wifi-Calling is enabled for XZ2C with Verizon? ( I know some earlier discussion here indicates NOT, then how is the situation now?)

So I tried this out yesterday. Disconnected the Compact from the data network, but while connected to wifi attempted to make a call, after confirming with Verizon that wifi calling was enabled on my account. The call went through. So, while the call won't indicate across the bottom that it's a wifi call (like my HTC handsets used to), the H8314, the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact does provide for wifi calling on the Verizon network.

Thinking about buying a couple of these to replace our aging 2013 Motorola Moto X phones with Verizon... but a little hesitant. Can anyone provide answers or verify the below:
1. H8314 (single SIM) works with no issues on Verizon?
2. I may have to mess with HD voice to get it working?
3. What's the deal with texting and MMS messages, does it work or not? Reliably?
4. Stuck with the Moto X (developer) because it could be unlocked and rooted... what's the deal with the XZ2c? Can I root it? What about unlocking the bootloader as well? And do I have it right that you might be able to unlock and keep the stock camera working? If you unlock and lose the DRM whatever, is the camera still usable (with a 3rd party app) or does the camera completely quit working.

Frustrated as heck because I want a better spec'd phone that's not a flipping tablet on my face and nobody seems to make one. This comes along, hear it works on Verizon, and been waiting for prices to drop and now that I start digging in it seems like this thing's kind of a turd?

New Verizon Issue?

People on the Sony Forum are complaining that their XZ2 Compacts on Verizon are suddenly failing to communicate until they do a factory reset. (Cannot place or receive call.) Has anyone on this forum experienced something similar?

Having same exact problem. More precisely my device isn't recognizing the SIM card at all, so it obviously can not communicate with Verizon's servers...

Just ran into this this past weekend (Saturday afternoon). Went to a Verizon store and got a new SIM, since the SIM had been used in a half dozen test handsets over 24 months, but that didn't make a difference.

I had a long telephone conversation with a Sony support representative who ultimately recommended: (1) factory reset and, if that doesn't work; (2) "software repair" on PC with Xperia Companion. If that didn't work, they would open repair order. After 8+ years of working with dozens of Android handsets from dev to finished products, I could see no reason a factory reset would cure, but in fact it did.

On Tuesday, however, the signal dropped twice within the space of ninety minutes. Toggling airplane mode returned service. If it behaves itself, I'll hope that an upcoming software update fixes whatever is going on. Otherwise, secured a backup phone, and will run software repair before opening that repair order.

One other noteworthy deficiency. Wifi calling WORKED on Verizon before last software update. Doesn't now. :(

Same thing here. Left an area with good signal this morning and phone worked. Came back, now cannot connect.

Sony or Verizon?

So, "something has changed", but what? Reports of this phenomenon go back a week (Sat, Feb 2) I could see monthly software rollout taking a week, so that some customers would update many days before others. (It's a big world and Sony is providing updates to potentially millions of phones.) I could also see Verizon rolling out a software change across the country. It is always possible that a software update might create a mess that only a "reset" can cure. But, if that is so, how can it happen again? I hope people continue to report so it will become clear that (a) a reset fixes things permanently, or (b) the problem still exists.

Same thing here. I drove to an area with no cell service at all a few days ago. When I returned to civilization today, I have no service (can't make calls, receive calls, or send/receive texts). Verizon support was no help, suggesting a new SIM card.

hgoldner, how exactly did you get WiFi calling working on Verizon previously?

How to Enable Verizon

hgoldner, how exactly did you get WiFi calling working on Verizon previously?
The early pages of this forum topic have numerous posts about the trials people went through a year ago to get their Sony XZ2 Compact to work on Verizon. (a) it has to be the "single SIM" model, not the "two SIM" model. (b) the account has to be set up for Voice over LTE (VoLTE), which sometimes involves a call to Verizon and possibly a new SIM card.

This phone is the first of a "new generation". Since mobile phones were created, there have been two competing methods of making the radios work: CDMA and GSM. In the entire world, only Verizon and Sprint based their networks on CDMA. Verizon wants to "turn off CDMA" and re-purpose the radio bandwidth. There are even rumors that Verizon is now refusing to provision a phone that works ONLY on CDMA. They want to move everybody to LTE.

Sony's Xperia XZ2 Compact is the first phone to be certified on Verizon which has ONLY LTE. (No CDMA modem at all.)

(More than you wanted to read. Sorry. Probably most efficient to skim through the early posts and see what worked for people.)

My XZ2C is single-SIM, and VoLTE is on. What I was asking hgoldner to reply with is any specific steps that were taken to enable WiFi Calling on this phone on Verizon. I don't have this option in my Settings or phone app settings.

This thread is 14 pages long, and hgoldner specifically said he had it working on a previous version of the Sony firmware, so I was wanting him to respond with whatever trick he learned that actually worked. I'm hoping to follow those steps on the next Sony update to see if I can get it working.
