Anyone using this on Verizon yet?

I'm hoping to follow those steps on the next Sony update to see if I can get it working.
Geez, I'm sorry. Just as an "aside", I have read posts claiming that WiFi calling is NOT enabled on "Open Market" phones. Here's a sample (it mentions a different brand, but the sentiment is the same) https://community.verizonwireless.com/message/1596579#1596579

Someplace on the Verizon forum I found a list of all the Open Market phones that were acceptable under the "Bring Your Own Phone" program. The Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact was the ONLY Sony on the list. That post had the same list of "things that don't work."

It would be great to have WiFi calling on the Sony.

I was able to get service back after doing a software repair using the Xperia Companion software. 18 hours after, I still have service. A few people on the xperia forums said they had problems again after doing a factory reset, but so far so good.

My XZ2C is single-SIM, and VoLTE is on. What I was asking hgoldner to reply with is any specific steps that were taken to enable WiFi Calling on this phone on Verizon. I don't have this option in my Settings or phone app settings.

This thread is 14 pages long, and hgoldner specifically said he had it working on a previous version of the Sony firmware, so I was wanting him to respond with whatever trick he learned that actually worked. I'm hoping to follow those steps on the next Sony update to see if I can get it working.
Unfortunately, I can no longer verify that wifi calling works on the H8314 since the latest software update.

In fact, as reported elsewhere, I completely lost signal 2 weeks ago and had to do a hard reset to get it back.

Hoping it's a software glitch to be corrected in the next update.

Verified on Verizon.

I want to say that I am using this phone (h8314) on verizon in the USA

4G+ LTE, too.

They had an issue getting it running at first and it was the visual voicemail. They had to turn it off, IIRC.
took. About an hour with the rep over the phone.

Switched my sim from my Z force to the xperia xz2C

I was told that dual sim models will NOT work. Not sure why

There's a new software update today (52.0.A.7.1) for the H8314 which hopefully fixes the disconnection bug.

I'm thinking about purchasing an XZ2 Compact to use with verizon prepaid. It looks like it may be possible but complicated. Would you all recommend that i choose a different phone or different carrier? I just want a compact phone with a very good camera (not iphone) and that has good connection (or as good as one can hope for anyway) when out in the mountains and what not.

Am i understanding correctly that this phone may work with the newer network technologies like LTE but won't work on older CDMA stuff? Would that mean that it would be less likely to have service in remote areas, where a phone that worked on CDMA would still function?

This thread is great. I ended up not getting the phone because I could not justify it with a perfectly working pixel. Now it's time for me to get something new. Would you still buy this phone today as a "last year flagship" upgrade. The price has dropped substantially and its getting harder to find them new.

First, I just LOVE this phone, and I am on Verizon (regular, not prepaid). Your concern is valid. The XZ2 Compact works only on LTE. And, there was an issue with the phone needing a factory reset if it spent too much time in a "dead zone". (Recent firmware update may have fixed it. Has not happened to me, but then I am in a large, urban area.) And you are also correct that provisioning the phone on Verizon is not as simple as GSM. The nice folks at Best Buy spent nearly 30 minutes on the phone with Verizon getting mine to work as I stood there smiling, "I'm not buying it until it makes a phone call."

Eventually, Verizon will phase out CDMA and their LTE coverage should be as good as CDMA, but no one knows when that might be.

If you can switch to AT&T prepaid (GSM) this phone would be great. If you absolutely must stay on Verizon, I share your concerns.

Verizon plans on shutting off CDMA early 2020. While my 8314 still sporadically drops signal, toggling airplane or reboot always fixes it since last update.

I should add, as a former handset tester, that this issue is not unique to Sony. Many LTE-only handsets encounter this on Big Red.

Nonetheless, it's still my daily driver, and I don't feel like I am missing anything, even though it's last year's model.

Read through several times, still frustrated.

As per the title, I have read through this (and similar) thread several times with no luck. I purchased an unlocked XZ2c H8314 single sim US warrantied phone from fleabay that will not activate on verizon's network. Verizon says my IMEI is not compatible, even though when I search for mobile networks Verizon shows up, but when I try to connect it is rejected by the network. Level 2 tech support management claims Sony needs to unlock the phone before it will activate, and Sony says it already is unlocked. With both companies pointing the finger at each-other, and me slowly realizing I wasted $400 even after months of research, I come to you guys hat in hand..

Two questions, if anyone is still monitoring this thread....

1) Is there some way to tell if an XZ2c is a US H8314 vs a global H8314 (if that is really the case)? How would one tell if it is a "Best Buy" handset or not?

2) Has anyone in a similar situation figured out a way to talk Verizon into manually entering the IMEI into their system? I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around how Sony would develop two versions of a handset and label them both H8314

Thanks in advance!

I finally bought my XZ2C at Best Buy, even after reading discussions like this about Verizon. Best Buy did not have the color I wanted, but they said, "We have a silver one that is "open box" because it was returned because the user could not get it to work on Verizon." $150 off, wow! "Sure, I'll take it once I see it work on Verizon." Tech guy at Best Buy was on the phone with Verizon for nearly 30 minutes until, yay, made phone call and got SMS text.

There is a "No CDMA" setting that must be activated by Verizon before the phone will work.

Verizon has a "Bring Your Own Phone" program and the XZ2C is one of the acceptable phones. I would go into a Verizon store (not a "Verizon partner") and say, "Sign me up. Here's my phone. When you make it work, I'll pay." Before you go, check the IMEI on Verizon's web site: https://www.verizonwireless.com/od/prepaid/bring-your-own-device/#/checkDevice

After approximately 10 posts, you will be able to post outside links. Thank you for understanding!
Thanks for the lead on the "No CDMA", I will mention that once I get back up the support tree to level 2. Right now the issue Verizon is unable (or unwilling) to address is the "The phone associated with the Device ID you entered is not compatible with the Verizon Wireless network." return from the IMEI check, even though it is a H8314 single sim US handset.

Since this thread is by far the best repository for information related to Verizon and the XZ2c I would like to add I answered my first question.

H8314 SI 1313-1117 appears to be the "Global" version of the handset. The IMEI of SI 1315-1117 is not approved for Verizon. (edit 1315 to 1313)

H8314 SI 1313-7910 is the "Best Buy" version of the handset, and from what I can gather is approved on Verizon's IMEI check webpage.

Shame on Sony for using the same model number for both handsets, I have never encountered this before and am more than a little miffed at the fact it is likely to be an expensive lesson to learn.

Thanks for letting people know. I found something "similar" on the web, showing that the H8314 was deployed to "North America and Europe". https://www.techwalls.com/sony-xperia-xz2-compact-model-number-differences/ Looks like whoever sold it to you was not aware that H8314's intended for Europe are not compatible with Verizon.

I have read comments by people who put Verizon firmware on their H8314 and got them to work. Not something I would be eager to do. Hope you get your money back.
